BEWARE THAT THESE CHEAP CABLES ARE VERY PRONE TO NOT WORKING OF FALLING APART - TAKE IT FROM ME.

Good to have just in case but not really recommended for use in a live system.

    • Agreed, some of them are absolute rubbish, they make very poor connection which can cause all sorts of grief. Try to avoid if at all possible, use only as a last resort.

    • yep literally fried one of my drives (a small electrical fire started from it), I shouldn't have risked it in hindsight

    • thanks for the advice; where do you recommend getting reliable ones ?

I did order this, but will give all the cables a good tug to check the crimps before deploying.

IDE isn't a connector type, the connector type is called "Molex"

    Also all drives are IDE.

…except for the SATA, SCSI, SAS, ST506, etc ones….

      • No, you're wrong.

IDE stands for Integrated Drive Electronics.

PATA is the correct term, to which I'm assuming you're referring as IDE.

IDE is not a cable or connection.

Thats a lame excuse to neg for… Everyone knows what it is!!

          @N3M3S1S
wikipedia would like to suggest otherwise:
"The terms "integrated drive electronics" (IDE), "enhanced IDE" and "EIDE" have come to be used interchangeably with ATA (now Parallel ATA, or PATA)."

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_ATA

It's certainly not a power supply plug though, like this bargain seems to be trying to suggest. Molex is indeed the term they should be looking for.

        • False information as far as I'm concerned. But each to their own :)

Feel free to rep it :)

        • I'm going to go out on a limb and say you don't have many friends, do you N3M3S1S?

        • … The Third Millenium technically started on the first day of 2001, but was welcomed a year before.

DVD's originally stood for Digital Versatile Disc, but Digital Video Disc became popularised.

I don't mind if you're a stickler for pedantics, but please don't tell me your negging just because of this :-)

        • Ugh, just a pet peeve of mine :P

Sure it may not be worth a neg. but at least someone has learnt the difference. (hopefully)

        • N3M3S1S- you should have used "5" in stead of "S" in your name to make a really cool handle.
