Description (if you can be bothered ..)

Nine months after the spill that catapulted him to the prime ministership, Scott Morrison won the 2019 election, shocking politicians and political pundits (and, quite possibly, himself). Yet, unlike his predecessors, little was really known about the former marketing man whose hard-nosed political instincts and 'daggy dad persona' saw him become the thirtieth Prime Minister of Australia. Voters knew what he allowed them to see - a policy embrace of slogans like 'Stop the Boats'; his deft rebuttal of media enquiries; his love for Jen and his two daughters; that he liked to cook a curry on Saturday nights; and that his faith and the Cronulla Sharks were a big part of his life. But a man is more than sound bites and social media posts. So who the bloody hell is Scott Morrison? In this revealing biography, political journalist Annika Smethurst uncovers the man behind the headlines and slogans to show us what makes Scott Morrison tick. Taking us from his childhood, as the son of a local policeman, to a meeting that would lead to marriage to his teenage sweetheart, The Accidental PM will tell the personal and the political. There are questions about Morrison's early business career and his preselection that, when answered, will paint a clearer picture of the man leading our country and give greater insight into how he won the 'miracle' election. Whether Morrison's ego and temperament will see him falter in hard times or whether he will use the lessons of his life to end the revolving door of PMs to become one of Australia's best prime ministers is still to be discovered. But knowing the man will allow us all to know the path he will lead us on.

The One minister, also known as the minister for everything, the Master minister, the Ring of ministers, and democracy's bane, was among the most powerful a******* ever created in Canberra, and by far the most dangerous.

Yes I’d much rather a leader who panders to the views of the minority right wing psychopaths…

      • +1

He is the most disliked PM

I think you have a very short memory. Even Tony Abbott was far less popular with the public.
Paul Keating was one of the most disliked, but that was just his personality, not his performance as PM, I think :)

        • +2

Nah Scotty is disliked even more now after revelations about his dodgy double treasurer deal.
I don't think he did himself any favours bashing on about the bible either.

      • He is the most disliked PM ever, takes a lot to achieve that….probably his biggest achievement.

        Based on population or percentage?

    • +7

From an actual winning an election point of view the issue for the coalition is where their distribution of votes went, whilst you're looking at the total percentages its the seats where it is won and lost and the coalition had their worst result in 70 years, that is no media beat up that is the facts.
The Nats did well and had less than a 1% swing against them, but the issue is the Nats hold safe seats and their biggest threats are from right wing parties not left in regional areas. The Libs lost ground in seats where they couldn't afford to, hell they even lost them in traditional blue ribbon seats. You'd rather win 15 seats at 51% than 5 with 100% of the votes.

    • +1

      Many still do

I think our definitions of 'many' when it comes to a dataset as large as the population, differs greatly.

    • +3

So the LNP supporters don’t understand preferential voting? It explains why they are losing.

    • Tell me you don't know how voting works…

  • +1

Everyone filling up their pockets through scams and schemes and no one is ever held accountable for anything or trialled. Labor, Liberal, same 💩 different packaging. One D got off for another to hump on. You? Well, you need to continue doing THE RIGHT THING!

Except the left of today is not the same left of 10-15 years ago.

        They are now
        - pro war
        - pro government
        - pro mandates
        - limiting or silencing those with apposing views (especially online).

Is it just me or is it hilarious that the picture for the listing on the site has the word draft across it? Like they didn't even send the final artwork for use?

  • +6

Whether Morrison's ego and temperament will see him falter in hard times or whether he will use the lessons of his life to end the revolving door of PMs to become one of Australia's best prime ministers is still to be discovered.

    Ahh….spoiler alert……it was the first option :)

  • Would much rather read this than Spare.

  • +1

This is a bargain comepared to what? Toilet paper?

  • Should give me money to pay for the reading

  • +1

Wait a little while and this will be in the remainder bins for a couple of dollars. When it hits that price it might be useful to nail it onto the toilet wall so that the pages can be put to good use.

  • the only context this book should be useful for should be how he hustled his way to that pension.

      • +1

all the despicable parasites that live within it.

Presume you're referring to Morrison's office and the "religious" extremists who had his ear?

It's not cute that you don't have even a fundamental understanding of how the Morrison government and the man himself operated.

        • -1

Presume you're referring to Morrison's office and the "religious" extremists who had his ear?

There all the same.. left or right. They look after themselves and their mates.

It's not cute that you don't have even a fundamental understanding of how the Morrison government and the man himself operated.

🤣🤣🤣 Names may change but the deep state (those that support and power the gov) are there after every election.

If you think the left is so much better, have a look what they have done to Victoria. The level of debt we are in is crazy and generations will be paying for it.

          • @vash5: Deep state, all the same…..anecdotal sloganism, aka rubbish. Do some reading and educate yourself.

The Morrison govt was corrupt, derelict and incompetent, far worse than what we've seen from any previous federal govt in modern history. Fraudenburg's $20B Jobkeeper gift to ineligible businesses is just one small example of the latter.

We've just been through a pandemic, massive environmental and infrastructure damage from fires and floods, and lack of federal economic stimulus and decades of infrastructure neglect before that. Vic is expected to return to surplus within 5 years, depending of course on global financial events. Andrews is no saint or miracle worker - he suggested hotels could be used for quarantine because Morrison refused to build dedicated facilities - but compared to Morrison he and every state leader is as pure as the driven snow.

  • Do i get 5 other books with this one?

  • This surely is an accidental publishing

  • +2

There is nothing accidental about Morrison becoming PM. He would have knifed his grandmother to get the position if he had to.

  • At some point, he decided that George Costanza guy was really onto something.

  • Peace of shet

  • Leave the politics at the door lmao
