Unsure if I should post as a couple of Ozbargainers believed that this was just the "usual" price and $1.90 seems to be the lower price. Accordingly, buy at your own price risk!

  • how does this go with minute noodles ?

    • Fry the noodles separately… And then stir fry some diced beef/chicken with these… But this is very thick… So you probably need only half a packet.

I usually make rendang by pressure cooking the beef first (no seasoning) then get rid of the water and stir fry the beef with this + coconut milk.

      • Pressure cook beef in plain water?

        What cut of beef?

        • Rump steak.

Pressure cook beef in plain water, yes. The idea is to get rid of some of the smelly bit that you usually see floating around in the water.

Also, you can't pressure cook with the coconut milk as the texture will change if it gets too hot.

@meong: Not rump steak, that's a total waste of money - if you're going to pressure cook it, you don't need a tender cut like rump.
Use something like gravy beef at half the price - it will be identically tender after pressure cutting, and be just as tasty at the end 👌

            • @Nom: Since when is rump a tender cut, do you have it confused with something else?

              • +2

@TEER3X: The tender cuts are things like fillet, rump, porterhouse, t bone - all the steaks you can do on a grill in just a few minutes. Anything that comes with a Rare or Medium cooking option is part of this list.

Slow cook beef are the things like osso bucco, gravy beef, brisket, ribs - all the things that need a serious cook (otherwise they're too tough to eat). These are the ones you can only eat Well Done and are generally the cheapest cuts of beef - if you're going to slow/pressure cook anyway, then use these. They have more flavour than the tender ones, and they usually cost less !

  • Is it a little spicy?

    • +2

Yes, it's quite spicy. I usually can tolerate spice but this burns quite a bit.

    • Um. It’s f-cken spicy

  • +1

    Cheers for the mention

$2.65 is the current normal full price on Amazon. It has been higher for the last few months but the data shows its back to $2.65

    • Feel free to negative so that people will read your comments

      • +2

I also stated the normal full price at that time was $2.65, so don't misquote me. It shows you the price history on 3xCamel. I'm not making this crap up the site is legit. I also don't care if people read my comments or buy the product or not. I'm simply pointing out (as I did in the last "deal") the price history

  • If you can't be bothered making rendang from scratch, this is the next best thing.

    • +1

100%. Worth adding the toasted coconut, too, if you can be bothered.

  • I really enjoyed the flavor of this but it was way too spicy for me. If you like really hot curry defiantly give it a go.

  • These taste great… but be warned they're spicy as!

    • Add half the seasoning, add water and coconut milk

  • +1

Maybe add a bit more coconut milk/sugar for less spice. Also… I made this with Wagyu braising meat…………. amazing.

  • If you have lower heat tolerance, use half the pack and add extra coconut milk. I use gravy beef for this and slow cook over an hour and a bit.

Tean Rendang mixes are flavourful but are hot.
