There are other operating systems besides Windows…

Windows 11 "hacked" still gets updates as normal.
It can also be installed on most unsupported machines with a quick Google search.

    • I usually just sit on whatever windows version I'm on until I encounter a program I cant run without upgrading.
How long do you expect a $149 computer to last you anyway?

There's always Linux - Ubuntu, Mint, etc

That’s why this deal is better:

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-OptiPlex-7060-Micro-Intel-i…

8th gen i5, 9 years of support instead of 2 for an extra $100.

  • I'm thinking of creating an emulation machine and Raspberry Pi 4 prices are bonkers. Is this a good option or a bit of overkill?

Possibly useful also if I want to play some of the tv shows/movies I have on a hard drive.

    • What's the problem even if it's overkill?
It does the job and as long as it's the same price or cheaper there's not really any downsides if it happens to have more performance headroom.
The only downsides I can think of is power efficiency and space.
If that doesn't matter for you, I'd say do it.

      • The problem is money, as in I don't want to spend $149 if I can spend $129, $99, $89, $79 on something else that will do the job. There comes a point where the quibbling costs more than the savings but my question also was designed to provoke a technical discussion.
