OzBargain favourite.

Not too bad of a price if you want a brand new Neochef instead of factory seconds. Usually would be I'd say $250+ RRP. Historically, it has been sub $180 so you can wait for those deals to come around again. I don't see the price dropping much anymore considering the prices now and inflation. The best price was $199 at BingLee posted on OzBargain.

I personally have a Neochef from factory seconds and works well, heats much better than my old microwave.

I got free delivery to 2128, not sure about other postcodes.

5% cashback with Cashrewards as well.

  • Wait, what’s differentiate good microwave from bad one? Or expensive ones from cheap ones ?

    • +3

Noise, heating power, sound it makes, heating element longevity, ease of use to change time, and other features that may be of use like defrosting, keeping warm, melting etc…

Just depends on the person, you can easily use just a Kmart one no prob.

      • +1

and replacement parts availability if needed

        • +1

If microwave need part replacing, it's time to buy a new one.

          heating element longevity

What you mean by that? Microwaves heat power usually reduce as time goes. No point keeping it for decades.

Microwaves are old tech, these days what good microwave consider as lots of tech features. Nothing more.

          • @boomramada: Sometimes the heating elements last longer on different models, just how it goes. It’s just up to you what you prefer, no wrong answer

    • +12

While this one is an '"Ozbargain favourite", my experience is that it has very poor shielding and causes significant bluetooth dropouts whenever you are using bluetooth headphones. If you have 2.4 GHz devices nearby, it would probably also cause those to drop out.

I don't recommend this microwave if you enjoy listening to music/watching TV shows with headphones while cooking.

      • +2

Now I figured out why I have drop in Bluetooth connection. Thanks

      • +5

It does interfere with 2.4GHz devices on the higher channels, but it's because it puts out more broadband interference rather than poor shielding.

I also tested a Sharp microwave and the interference it puts out is around wifi channel 10 and 11. If your wifi network was on those channels, it too would be affected.

Bluetooth is even more susceptible as the power levels involved are so much lower, but it does have a greater chance of resisting interference with the Sharp due to it's more narrow output.

At least the heating really is more even, at least when compared to that Sharp.

        • Thanks for the detailed info! Is there a microwave that you could recommend that doesn't create this kind of interference?

          • +1

@Bog: Sorry, I only tested the ovens I have access to. Every microwave will definitely leak some RF though, as they're not perfect Faraday cages. The limits are listed in an AS/NZS standard.

      • +1

Agree that it's particularly bad on this microwave, but it really depends how long you have the microwave going for as to whether it's a big issue.

I do a lot of cooking, most of the time with my ear buds in, but rarely have the microwave running for more than 3 or 4 minutes at a time. I can handle pausing whatever I'm watching or listing to for that length of time.

In all other aspects, this is the best microwave I've owned.

    • Thanks, updated to $229. Made a typo.

Appliance giant giving this product for $222.
I don't see what's special about your post?
Plus, 5% Cashrewards you mentioned is actually only 3%

        • Not in stock and pre order from manufacturer?

  • $35 delivery to Vic

Don't buy LG products at Betta. If the product fails they don't care even if you purchased additional warranty. I got tossed around for 6 months between LG and Betta for the above reason. LG finally gave in and issued me a replacement on the 7th month. Went to appliances online and bought this same model. Anyways dont deal with Betta esp the villawood one

    • +1

Can agree that the Villawood branch's customer service is non existent.

    • +2

That's shocking - they're responsible for picking up warranty issues and liaising with the manufacturer. Did you threaten them with fair trading?

      • It could be just me. Didn't bother with fair trading as LG was generous enough to give me full cash refund for the broken neochef. I had to wait 6 months though following up with them both. Kept me from buying a new one since I dont want to have 2 microwave ovens.

      • Why liaising with retailer unless it's DOA, can't you just deal with the manufacturer?

  • Got mine for $194 + cashback about 10 months ago, it's a decent microwave and i cant seem to fault it.
It can disturb the internet when warming something up but have only noticed the problem on my phone not laptop but think most microwaves have this problem

    • +1

Switch your wifi to 5ghz - problem solved

    • +1

      yeah sadly no delivery :(

  • Buyer beware, when pulling open the door you will drag the microwave forward.

Tried it at Good Guys and swapped for a Panasonic straight away.

    • +4

I own this microwave but don't have the issue you described. Could be the surface it's placed on?

    • +3

This thing is pretty heavy and hasn't moved at all.
The most annoying thing is that to change the clock you need to turn it off at the wall. It's a bitch if it's in a cavity and need to lift it out.

What’s the panel of the microwave like for cleaning? It looks like it will easily show fingerprint marks

    • Its fine, well ours is.

The thing i don't like is that you are restricted to 10 or 30 second time increments. I miss being able to put in an exact time.

Sometimes things can go from hot to too hot because of the time limitation.

Defrosting is no better than any other microwave.

      I love the size.

  • Mine caught on fire, and it’s not just me - there’s reviews even on their site.
All in all it’s a pretty bad microwave for the money paid - food isn’t cooked that evenly or it’s overdone.
As mentioned above, shielding is poor and Bluetooth drops out.
I bought a replacement Panasonic Inverter for $300, it has no carousel glass and just a flat wide space and I’m loving it, easy to clean and full space available.

It’s got none of the issues of the LG, cooks food incredibly well and of course, it hasn’t started a fire.

This is not me, but my experience is much the same
    https://www.productreview.com.au/reviews/eac8c3e2-fc63-5d52-…

Read the reviews, no matter how good of a bargain, it’s not worth the risk of catching fire and burning your home done. LG has a problem with their microwaves.
100% my model looked like the one in the photo before you ask.

    Here’s a picture of it:

Second that, I wouldn’t recommend this microwave

    • +1

+1 here. Didn't catch on fire, but went thru 3 of them in 3 years. Same fault (clicking, no heating up), LG support is terrible. Not endorsing Samsung, but ended up with the one. Yes, features wise Samsung (the model I have) is a level down, but it works. Posted YouTube with 5c worth of my opinion. https://youtu.be/qQgNoPvbh44
If you have one that works for you - it's a great one to have, although bluetooth and wifi signals disruption is pretty bad.
Would not recommend one… Look for less fancy alternative.

This is not me, but my experience is much the same
      https://www.productreview.com.au/reviews/eac8c3e2-fc63-5d52-…

The problem with sites like ProductReview is that only people with problems tend to post there because they're unhappy so they go to the effort of seeking out a website to post a complaint. Every product has a failure rate, but the more popular a product is, the more of them there will be out there, and the more failures you will see simply because there's more of them out there.

You're happy with your Panasonic microwave, but on the same site you linked, someone else had their Panasonic microwave "catch fire" the same way you did - on the waveguide cover.

      Here’s a picture of it:
      https://ibb.co/7X1wv8b

That's the mica waveguide cover which protects the magnetron behind it. What can happen is food gets stuck on it when the table rotates, and all the energy from the magnetron goes into that stuck food and burns it. So it's the food that's stuck on the waveguide cover that burns. At the bottom of your photo there's still some yellow/orange-coloured food bits stuck on the cover, could that be what caught fire?

It's also possible for the magnetron behind it to arc if there's a fault, but I wouldn't expect the burn marks to look like that. You can confirm it by unscrewing that screw and popping off the mica waveguide cover to see what the marks are like on the other side.

      • +3

100%. No one goes to ProductReview if they're happy. It's the site that everyone who's angry goes straight to.

Lookup reviews for any company or product on ProductReview, then checkout reviews elsewhere. ProductReview is almost always overwhelming much more negative.

Not saying that in this case those reviews are suggestive of wider issues with this microwave (mine has been perfect other than wireless interference near the microwave), just saying that ProductReview doesn't always give the full picture.

My process for looking at reviews, check multiple sources (including Reddit), ignore all 5 star reviews, be highly sceptical of Amazon reviews for Chinese brands, don't take all 1 star reviews at face value (a lot of the time they're 'Karens' or 'user error'), and focus mostly on the comments in 3 and 4 star reviews (particularly from people who are overall positive, but highlight any shortcomings).

    • I also owned one and it has to be one of the worst microwaves onthe market. Constantly disrupted my internet and ended up catching fire.

      • Thank you for adding this, people can downvote me…
But disrupting your wifi/BT and burning down your house is NOT a feature I look for in my microwaves. This one has more then average reviews about catching fire.

        • This one has more then average reviews about catching fire.

Just be wary of confirmation and reporting bias.

    • I agree, won't buy another LG microwave.
I have the top model (air fry / steamer) and within 6 months it would just start randomly turning off and back on, quite common.
      terrible air fryer as well.
once it dies I will probably just get a flatbed one from another brand.

  • +1

Mine failed after 2.5 years. No longer heated. Piece of junk.

Currently using an old crappy one until I buy a flatbed microwave.

    • Agree, mine is just 2 years old now and the heating power has gone down significantly. Not getting another one

    • It was never that great to begin with. The $120 2010 Samsung microwave it replaced probably did a better job.
Honestly I can whole heartedly recommended the Panasonic inverter, it’s a little dearer but not crazily so….
The thing is, aside from the flatbed, it cooks amazingly, food is thoroughly cooked but not soggy or burning.. that’s got my mind blown that a microwave can cook so well

      • Good to hear!
        Which model is it?
I think Sharp do a flatbed as well??

      • We replaced a Panasonic Inverter microwave after if failed within 3 years of purchasing. So it seems you are at a stalemate.

    • Mine failed after 1.8 years no longer heating. Just in warranty luckily. Terrible microwave

    • +1

Currently using an old crappy one until I buy a flatbed microwave.

Try test it beforehand if you can, the one Panasonic flatbed microwave I tested was very uneven with its heating. It was a friend's microwave and they weren't satisfied with it. Maybe they've improved now.

  • I have the 39L version with lots of fancy additions… Love it - great all in one unit- we use the crisp mode at least once a week, defrosting, slow cook, i even dried miso in it to make miso powder to add on food, cook whole chicken (havent in a while) - its quite a lot more expensive - but a good addition if one is not keen on getting airfyer and other gadgets- https://www.lg.com/au/microwave-ovens/lg-MJ3966ABS

  • It's a nice microwave we have those at work and it gets pounded at lunch with no issues

  • Got a similar model, MS4296OBS. Died at about the 3yr mark. Good microwave while it lasted, also killed Bluetooth.

Bought 1 C&C at their Brooklyn VIC store but just got a call now that it’s out of stock and it will take them 2-3 months to get new stock. Got offered a Samsung MS40J5133BG as a replacement for the same price so I took that one instead because I badly need the new microwave asap as my kid broke our microwave refently.
