    I would suggest Cashback ($17.50) + $179 Amaysim = $161.50 offer as you get 180GB, calls to 28 countries, SMS/MMS to 42 countries and eSim…

    • Then it reverts to $200 for the second year.

This coles mobile is a lot cheaper if you don't need data for people like my parents.

      • -1

Do note this reverts to $150 after the initial discount…

        • -1

          So $200 vs $150…

          • -1

@Caped Baldy: yes for a fair difference in offerings… some people would do it just for eSim alone to have that dual sim capability.
iPhone users can have 8 or more eSim profiles and use 2 eSims at a given time… :)

            • @Elijah: Newbie on eSim here. Did you mean to say that this Optus SIM card can be converted to eSim? If so, will it incur any extra cost?

              • @BendBridge: oh no you dont use a physical SIM, if you have an eSIM compatible device it connects to the network once you have downloaded the eSIM profile via the respective provider's app.

                • @Elijah: That means I can buy this SIM and install it as an eSIM through the Optus app?

        • +2

Coles usually offers a 25% recharge discount for auto recharge.

        • They say it reverts after the first 12 months, but I've been with Coles mobile for 3 or 4 years now, and they offer the exact same deal to existing customers every year.
So in practice, so far, it's been $119 for 120GB data with 12 month expiry.

Beware that you wont be able to receive sms while overseas with Coles Mobile .. Learn the hard way back in May last year ..

    • +2

This and this comment say otherwise?

    • thanks for the warning, that is really important information to be aware of. I wonder how is that even possible nowadays, even a basic PAYG plan on Aldi for instance would allow receiving sms while overseas. That is probably why I still use a 2FA dongle on my primary bank account.

      • Except that was May last year & more recent comments say it's now working.

    • +2

I was getting SMS while in Singapore and India last month

      • Did you purchase the international roaming pass or were you getting sms via vowifi

    • +2

I was able to receive sms last month in Indonesia

  • -1

bear in mind the reception is very bad.

    • +10

I get better reception than Telstra at my place so I guess it depends on your location.

      • +4

Same. No bars with Telstra (Melbourne concrete jungle). 2 bars with Optus.

    • I had issues with reception till i had power saving mode on my s21ultra. Its way way better

      • +1

I'm not entirely sure, but your reception issues might just be from being forced to use 5G. Power saving mode turns off 5G so you use the 4G network instead.

If anybody wanted to test it for themselves, in Android settings in Connections, go to Mobile Networks, and there should be a Network Mode setting.
When I visit an old beach house I switch my phone to 3G, which is usually much more reliable and faster than using the 4G network in that specific area.

        • Yes it is weird my 4g improved.

  • -3

Worse reception close to even city. Never have seen third tower signal

  • Probably a dumb question but can you return unused/unactivated SIMs?

Just bought the $99 ones yesterday.

    • -1

$99 is for coles team members only when you scan your coles team member card.
can not be returned once bought.

      • +1
      • +1

There is a current $99 offer that expires tomorrow. Nothing to do with being a team member.

        • -1

          I meant the $150 pack with 120GB for a year is only $99 for coles team members (Plus a 5% discount - ($99-5% = $94.05/year).

          • +1

@Kay96: I know what you meant. However the $99 deal I posted is open to the public and more likely what mango bought.

    • +1

Not sure, worth a try if you bought instore & still have the receipt. However when you buy a starter pack the sim is registered at the checkout so I don't think they can just put it back on the shelf.

      • +2

Yeah I've still got the receipts, but yeah the fact that it registers at the checkout might be an issue.

I'll try giving Coles Mobile customer service a call and see what they say.

        • +2

It's not a big deal if you have a dual sim phone as you can top up data with cheap (free) sim deals posted on here throughout the year.

          • +2

            @WatchNerd: Good idea, thanks!

For what it's worth I spoke to Coles mobile live chat and they said to submit a feedback form as I bought it in store and they should be able to refund me.

Anyway if I end up doing that I'll post results here so it can hopefully help someone in the future.

    • I had Woolies refuse to refund a sealed sim pack bought three days earlier by my ex-partner saying it was already activated by them.

      • +1

More or less expecting this to happen but hoping I'm wrong. Not the end of the world, 60GB will be enough for me and $74 (after factoring in the 5000 flybuys points) is a steal. But this one just works out to a better deal per GB.

  • would it work for existing plan to renew it?

    • +2

They've currently got the 20% discounted recharges going.

You'd be paying an entire $1 more that way though.

      • no, no, no! I'd rather let that expire as well and pay full than cave in. lol but that is just available in app itself? or need to get recharge voucher?

        • Wait sorry my bad, that expired 24/01 :(

The $99 Sim card finishes the 30th, got them confused sorry https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/751342

In saying that though, when does yours expire? I've heard people say Coles usually offer them 20% discount anyway on a recharge when you get close to expiry.

Does anyone know if coles mobile has wifi calling enabled n will it work overseas? thinking of moving from Boost

    • +2

it does, it recently got enabled for me as well

      • wow!thanks,just want to know.

  • Do they have visual voicemail?

    • In case anyone else interested: I asked their chat support and they said no.

  • Can anyone recommend a basic sim card that is cheap and doesn't come with a lot of data or international calling. I need it for my daughter who just needs a phone to call us when she is out and about.

    Thanks

    • +2

amaysim PAYG(pay as you go) plan,$10($10 is the credit). that is the cheapest plan for one year and next year recharge is $10 too. the ALDI mobile PAYG is $5 first year but next year recharge minimun is $15. and if you can get wws gift card in 5% off, you can buy $10 amaysim recharge voucher in wws with gift card. that is equal to $9.5 per year.

If you regularly shop at Woolies then in my opinion Woolworths mobile is best. Unlimited calls/texts plus 100GB data for $140 per year. That's less than $12 per month, but you get 10% off one shop each month, so if you use it on a shop of $120 or more the plan costs you nothing. I have the next plan up which is around $16 per month I believe. I shop less often now and use my 10% off voucher when I'm doing a big shop and get the maximum $50 off, so essentially Woolies is paying me $34 to use their mobile service.

      • +1

Even if you don't shop at Woolies. If you just switch over buying your basic staples from Woolies, rice, bread, pasta, beans, etc, it works out the cheapest. Besides sim slutting for free/profit.

      • Perfect. This works for me as I only shop at Woollies. Will get one.

      • How does the voucher work? If you had multiple family members on ww mobile could you use multiple vouchers each month?
        Cheers

        • +1

When you go to pay at the checkout and scan your everyday rewards card you are given the option of using it, kind of like how you choose whether or not you want to use your rewards dollars. It is linked to your rewards card. If you have more than one woolworths mobile account you'll have to have more than one rewards card/account. You can only have one service linked to one card.
You can also sign up for everyday extra which gets you an additional 10% off voucher each month as well as a 10% off at Big W each month, plus 3x the points on every shop.

  • +3

I know this will get multiple negative votes. But would like to warn people to check with Family & Friends who are already on Coles Mobile about the reception is your area.

For some strange reason., it is very bad in my place and never had this issue with other providers in the past..I am out of Coles Mobile after the prepaid period..

    • +1

You are telling the truth. I was so happy to port out after 8 months using the same deal… The reception in my areas (Casey, Melbourne) is absolutely terrible. The reception map says coles has 4g in my areas, however there was barely any reception at all. I couldn’t even use the GPS on my phone sometimes. Internet is very slow when the reception bar was full. If u live in the same area, steer away.

  • +1

Can you still activate it more than 30 days after purchase. My current prepaid ends in early April, so was wondering if I could buy it now, but only activate it 8 weeks later?

    • +1

i've just activated my coles sim after 6or 7 weeks without any issues.

  • Is it only in NSW? It is sim only plans in VIC.

  • I bought one recently and it said it expires in Nov. so many months before activation required. It will print it on the recharge docket

  • What is the download and upload speed for this 120GB Data mobile plan?

    • That’s going to vary depending on location and device - but I’ve never had any performance issues on the two services I have

  • Can anyone comment on Coles mobile as a provider im coming from Amaysim and have been happy with them.

    • +1

Works well for me on 2 services - good coverage and speeds
