    That's a lot of RAM

    • share it with your friends

      • They’ll never forget you

  • What a beast

    “Will it fit my motherboard?”

“Just ram it down like a furious beast”

  • Good luck with QVL

    • I just did a quick google to find out what this is - but why will this be a problem? Is it likely to incompatible with a lot of motherboards?

      • Most people dont run 4 full sticks of RAM. Normally single or dual channel

        • I'm gonna be doing a home server type build eventually, so think I'll end up potentially running 4 channels.

Maybe I need to do more research on what the differences are in compatibility compared to 2 channel, assumed they'd be pretty much the same

@snoopydoop: If it is for Ryzen based system, you will need a decent motherboard in order to have a chance (CPU may also be a factor - since the memory controller is on the CPU). You are dealing with double sided, dual rank memory modules which are known to be coded very close to its limit (virtually no margin for overclocking). At 4 DIMMs, you really want some margin.

I guess you could always return it if you run into compatibility issues. As for QVL, the main issue is most motherboard makers generally elect not to put these in their QVL (coz. vouching for cost effective DDR4-3200 modules in 4 x 32 mode is asking for trouble).

            • @netsurfer: I see. Definitely want to play it safe and easy as possible, so I might hold off for now until I've done more research!

Thanks for the insight, way more factors at play than I thought.

            • @netsurfer: should ditch the "if it's for ryzen based system" part, because it's also hard for Intel based system.

32G per stick on DDR4 means it is running dual rank configuration.

Dual rank is heavily dependent on motherboard trace in terms of signal clearance (they run faster per clock but that's a different story), let alone installing 4 sticks instead of 2.

I think you have to use a 6 layer PCB motherboard (again, apply to both Intel and AMD) to even stabilize 128G of ram without (excessive) tweak/downclock.

It's also a big struggle for the IMC, because there are too much ram modules.

        • i run 4x16 looking at 4x32.

          3700x in a x570

I run 96GB 3600mHz CL18 in a home server build, 2 x 16GB and 2 x 32GB on TUF x570, neither kit are on the QVL list. Don't use the QVL list as source of truth for compatibility. I also cranked up Dram voltage when the ram is not 100% stage at 1.35 v, maybe u can try that if u have a decent mobo but cannot run at XMP.

          • @s20525xxx: Are they on similar brand and timing? I'm planning on expanding my existing 2 x 8GB with another 2x16GB corsair lpx 3200 so I can survive docker on windows because I'm too lazy to move to unraid.

            • +1

@xorprime: They are different brands, but exact same timing

              • @s20525xxx: Brands seemed to be using different chips e.g., Samsung vs others so I’m trying to stick with one brand though I’m very tempted to mix Patriot Viper steel with Corsair Vengeance LPX with same timings because I can get the Patriot on a bargain.

nice find! at least its making sub $500 now.. not sure if CL16 is going to be an issue to use with a 5950x or a 3700x reading that the 3 series will benefit from faster RAM

Can I have 10 Google chrome tabs with this ram or isn’t enough ?

    • 2 just 2 tabs

    • Every system has its limits. I run 400 tabs on Safari (which I believe is a hard limit) and only then do things begin slowing down. That’s on 64GB RAM with a Mac mini i7 2018 edition. At that point, I open up Chrome and another 100 tabs. When Chrome slows down, I move to Firefox. Great setup and the system never crashes.

I have no idea how unstable Windows is these days, but great for gaming nevertheless.

yeah, no game needs 128GB of RAM, there's probably no game that won't work perfectly fine on 16GB of RAM, so saying this is "great for gaming" is a bit silly, unless off course you are playing 400 games at the same time, at which point I feel like lack of RAM won't be the first issue you encounter…

        • 8gb ram used to be the req for gaming. Now it's reaching min-16gb. 32 will be the req soon with VR and such being more available. But, i would love to see a gaming rig that will utilise this much ram for a single game lol….. would be outta this world

        • unless you are a someone who plays sim games with all the mods and assets maxxed, you probably don't need 128GB ram for games.

i mean it's silly at this point to claim "no game needs X". game resource requirements will only go up over time.

it wasn't considerably too long ago for me when i last heard someone exclaimed no one really needs 1gig of system ram and here we are.

people see benefit playing ms flight sim at 32/64gb, so 128gb isn't too far off either. that's not 400 games at the same time, it's just 1 game.

          • @slowmo: Every time I revisit the question, every google result says 16GB is heaps. 32GB is pointless. The people who get non-commercial benefit from greater than 32GB must be 0.01%.

    • Only about three fiddy.

LOL this is crazy, it has advanced so much… My days were x486 ERA with "2Mb EDO RAM"

going back a bit, i used to use flat head screwdrivers to remove RAM chips. :P

My folks bought a 286, upgrading from a com64 lol. We thought it was flipping amazing!! Wolfenstein in dos= jaw-dropping lmao!!

    • A mate of mine went to Taiwan, for a meeting in a street somewhere in Taipei. Early 90’s I reckon. Bought a briefcase full of RAM. It was like $20-25k by memory (no pun).

  • bought for my lenovo idealcentre and my bpctech $699 pc
