  • There should be another $49 deal just before Christmas.

Got a crystal ball have you? These offers don't come out on a regular schedule
These 12 month subs will roll onto any renewal date existing subscribers have - so this offer provides the opportunity to lock in another 12 months subscription at 50% off the normal price

      • In the past there has been a $49 deal at Christmas and other times also. However, They seem to offer lesser discounts more frequently now. It's probably been 6 months since i've seen a half price one

      • No, and yes they do, every year for 4 years now I have purchased 12 month subscription for $49 in December.
I have also done it for others on a yearly basis about now. So while not a specific schedule it is bloody close.
December is all but guaranteed, the mid year one has moved around from June through to August.
And correct you can stack subscription renewals.

  • How is this different to the software that can be used with TV tuner cards?

I'm not being facetious: in 2006 when living in Deepest Darkest France, I had a DVB-S card in a Dell desktop connected to a dish on the roof (for satellie TV from "The England") - the card came with software that enabled me to view and record and schedule (from an EPG) my viewing.

OK, so maybe the DVB tuner software didn't auto-drop the ads - but bear in mind that was 6 years ago, so I figure that bog-standard freeware/Open-Source DVB-T/S software is probly way better nowadays. So I would not pay $50 a year to add the ability to auto-magically do something that you can do with a mouse in 2 seconds (ffwd through the recorded show).

Not negging the deal as such: I'm not a negger even though my Mum is half-Maori so I'm certainly quasi-chocolate… (that's right, beyatches: it's another of my "negger" jokes, of which I never tire).

    • diog-i used normal epg info in the past
but this allows pvr and pc to record series easily, and it updates the program times far more often, so you pretty mch never miss a show

good value if you record a lot of series, if you just record the odd show, then its not needed

i've been subscribing for the past couple of years, it saves a lot of time recording various series for the wife

i can also log onto icetv via iphone app and then add a series recording , VERY convenient

I also subscribe to IceTV. To be out for the night and be able to set up a show to record from your iPhone is great. Also good to record series of shows you like. I think I get the $1 a week benefit over the free software I could use.

      Exactly why l subscribe too…

Same here - this offer has taken me out to April 2014
You get what you pay for with the Free EPG…
With IceTV you get the mobile clients and a very complete guide (and some very amusing programme descriptions!)

  • I have never, and will never, understand the value people see in IceTV.

What experience have you had with it?
If any - what platform(s) did you use it on? did you use mobile devices to schedule recordings?

Personally I couldn't survive without it - I use it on 3 recording devices (2x Media Center and 1 Beyondwiz)and access it from a mobile and multiple PCs to remotely schedule recordings

It's so easy to use even my technophobic wife uses it!

  • Love it, use the media center on my machine all the time. Thanks for the link OP~!
