I think this model is a 2023 rehash of the Dell S2721DS.

I ordered a couple for WFH.

EDIT: I just realised you can stack this 5% discount to bring the price down to $254.55 (Dell's K-12 students program) - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/662785

If anyone has the patience and doesn’t need a monitor soon, the 2023 refresh of the 4K monitors was $330 a while ago. Could come down to that price again (although who knows when… especially with inflation!). I love my 4K monitors and rate them v highly for office work.

    Good post though OP!

    • Curious… Do you drive your 4K screens at native resolution and 100% scaling ?
Coz i find non-native resolution is too fuzzy… and scaling in Windows just sucks….

      • +7

I use native resolution, and use 125% (or is it 150%? I think it’s 125%) scaling.

On Windows 10. Works perfectly and everything just looks and feels great, and clean. All icons, etc. ‘feel’ the right size, but just crisper and more detailed.

Some older, legacy apps don’t scale well, but those are few and far between. And there are settings to manually try a few diff scaling methods, which makes them look much better.

For me, definitely a situation of not ever being able to (voluntarily!) go back to sub-4K.

EDIT: I think there was a transition period where things were glitchy and apps had to be rewritten. I know Outlook was awful and inconsistent, and glitchy. I’m using Office 365, and with the updates to Outlook 365, it’s all been fixed. And every other app I use (for office work) looks perfect. I think the transition period is over. I recommend you give 4K a try again!

        • Does your Excel still lag all over the screen while dragging (with contents displayed)

      • +1

I use 175% scaling and have had no issues. I think Windows 10 and 11 dpi scaling is quite good nowadays.

This is for my 4K 27", absolutely glorious. It's significantly crisper than my 27" 1440p.

      • Scaling works seamlessly what are you talking about?

        • Images in browsers (at least ff) don't scale well, and it messes with the mouse sensitivity.

    • 4K is definitely what everyone should try to get.

      • +2

For applications I would like one (a 32inch 4k monitor), but to play games in 4k I would need to folk out over $1000 for a GPU. $1000 is a lot for me but a pittance for most OzBargainers.

What was the Dell 4K deal? I haven't seen any good prices on their 4K monitors for 6 months plus

  • +1

No speakers - the only real difference I can see.

  • +3

No USB-C connection (ofc). No USB port right below the screen.

From my experience of owning S2722DC, a USB-C port is essential to someone who connects the monitor to their bus laptop via USB-C.

    • +3

I have a laptop that is only used at home.
Another that is only used at work, for business.
And another that I use whilst on public transport, a train laptop, a ferry laptop or a bus laptop.

      • Your point is ? 🤔

  • Great monitor but if your primary is a 144hz you're going to feel the drop in hz.

    • 75hz is kinda crappy, surprised it's not at least 90hz.

    • Apart from gaming where would Hz matter?

      • Basically everything. Both my WFH monitors are 144hz for this reason. The difference from 144hz to 60hz is night and day. The mouse is slower, more choppy, less responsive. Each to their own, if I had 2x 60hz it would be bearable, but a 144hz and a 60hz paired is not a good combo in my opinion.

        • You can speed up your mouse in windows/macos settings you know

          • +1

@bargainboy88: That sounds even worse, not having a standard speed across both screens.

  • Tempting… But waiting for 4k

    Regarding that 7% students coupon….
    I think its only 5% now… according to this….

    • Updated, thanks! 😁

      • +1

        No worries.
I suggest mentioning that the coupon is from Dell's K-12 students program.
        That'll avoid some disappointment.

  • 4K or no way!

  • Still decent price for surveillance monitor.

  • Tempted. QHD is fine by me. I've got another P2422HE with USBC hub and daisy chaining hence only HDMI/ DP is fine.

Anyone with an opinion matching a 24" with 27"? Should I do it?

    • +3

      No… Dont do it.

This is the only reason im lookin for (another) 27" QHD.
The dot pitch is smaller on the 27".
I drive my screens at 100% scaling, and windows dont line up … so its very frustrating….
      This doesnt affect everyone tho.

      • Yeah I do like my screens to line up, although I currently have a 2422 and a 2314. I may just end up with a 2423H, full Hd is fine

      • You can download a program called little big mouse. I think that will solve your issue

        • i think thats only for the mouse cursor… ?

my issue is that i have windows/content that stretch over two screens….. and that doesnt line up :(

  • +2

My S2721D is great (don't use for gaming)

  • +2

Following, I got one of these 2 years ago for 219 and it's great for that price, this isn't far off.

  • E - Essential
    S - Home & Small Office

    but what is SE

  • Combine with 10% Amex cashback deal

  • No speakers alas, only MIC out

  • How would this be for a screen if used for gaming? Don't mind the lower refresh rate, just will response times etc be okay?

    • +1

It's not terrible, but it's not a gaming monitor. I play casually on mine with a few games without issues, games like league or OSRS, overwatch etc…
Might be different with call of duty or something but for this price you won't get a good colour good panel qhd 27" with less response time unless you tradeoff something

      Response Time
      8 ms (grey-to-grey normal); 5 ms (grey-to-grey fast); 4 ms (grey-to-grey extreme)

  • Received mine on Thursday. Such a nice sharp image compared to my old 24" 1080p Dell monitors.

  • I bought two and have them side by side with my S2721DS and the colour is a little too warm in comparison? Idk I feel like they took a few shortcuts with this model, a bit disappointed.

    • Have you calibrated it in any way?

      • Tried to, nothing helped. Ended up returning them and getting two S2721DS at $275 each which work great.
