but does the webcam make your face ultrawiiiiiide

    • +28

That’s not the webcam, I would suggest seeking medical attention.

    • +6

An ultrawide webcam is absolutely necessary for my onlyfans.

      • +5

Make sure it's got a zoom feature before you buy.

        • +8

Sure but that costs extra. Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams……I really don't mind.

      • Baby got back

  • +12

70 Hz oh jeez no thanks.

    • +1

      Why?

      • +3

100+ looks a lot smoother, depends on what you plan to do with it

        • 200 is smoother than 100

          • @absolutec: Diminishing returns the higher you go though. Heaps of benefit going 60 to 100, more marginal benefit going 100 to 144, and so on.

      • 144Mz is the standard it's not 2016

        • Lol, no it's not. 144hz is not close to being a standard anywhere not even in the context of gaming as pushing 144 FPS in tripe-A games these days requires rigs that easily cost $4K these days, if not more.

60Hz, 24" inch displays (usually TN) with a 1920x1080 resolution are still the most common type of display panel in any use case, whether that be gaming or enterprise usage.

          • -2

            @Gnostikos: "Lol, no it's not."

Yes it is get your eyes checked.

  • +6

    A neck killer.

    • +13

Or will the extreme range help exercise and strengthen your neck muscles with all that extreme head turning? 🤔

    • +1

Push through the pain and you'll have a neck like Daniel Ricardo

    • +1

It’s definitely not. This is actually better than 2 screens side by side.

  • +7

There is nothing wrong with VA. But why not just get a matched pair of 27" QHD monitors? A lot of software copes better with that.
I guess you have a particular usage case, where you want a single window to fill both screens?

    • +7

Does it not do dual input so you can have side by side, just like having two monitors except its one and doesn't have the bezels inbetween?

      • +1

        yes it does.

    • +8

Speaking more from a generic 32:9 49” perspective, surprisingly some stuff works better with a single monitor than dual, and it’s nice to have the flexibility to choose where to split the screen. Sometimes I do things in thirds. The other benefit is for devices which only support one video output but can handle the aspect ratio eg M1/M2 devices like my iPad Pro.

      • +1

Windows 11 also handles split zoning for large monitors way better than windows 10 and earlier.

        • +2

Basically integrated Fancyzones and then made it part of the standard window control UI.

    • +7

I use powertoys fancyzones to assign windows to one of three ~4:3 zones. It's great for productivity.

    • On either Windows or Mac, you can dock the application to fill the left or right of the screen, effectively like separate monitors.

    • Two monitors are great for productivity but who wants a gap in the middle when gaming?

      • Less games = more productive.
What games benefit from such an extreme aspect ratio? It must be like Ned Kelly's view.

        • Racing games.
As for productivity, it is also great for viewing wide spreadsheets and Gantt charts.

          • @Buy2Much: LOL those are some pretty detailed drawn out project plans if you need 32:9 to see them!

        • There's something enjoyable about playing games in 32:9 to me where the outer edges are in your peripheral vision. But for me, driving and open world games are great.

  • +6

I had this for a while from work and it’s just too wide.

    • +3

Would the extra curve in the Samsung 49" variant work better

  • +4

My office isnt big enough let alone the desk…

  • +4

    Better get 5k2k

  • +8

This monitor would be very suitable for Anya Taylor-Joy

  • +1

    """""5k"""""

  • +3

    Got anything wider?

    • +1

      Visualising the packaging now

      🤯

Maybe we will eventually have mainstream modular roll-up OLED films to attach peripherals

    • +1

      Got anything wider?

      ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

      Oh yes, yes I do.

      • Dare I ask what is it?

        • +1

My Alienware AW5520QF 55" inch obviously.
          It's 55 inches of eye-watering pure pleasure.

Now get your head out of the gutter.

    • +1

You want wider, this thing is a beast, but a wallet killer

    • +2

Yes this monitor is terrible on a Mac. It can’t do 5K

If the individual who downvoted me wants to share their experience or counterpoint, I'm all ears

The Dell U4021QW, Lenovo P40w-20, HP Z40c G3 & LG 40WP95C-W all use the same underlying LG LM400RW1-SSA1 40" IPS 5K2K 2500R panel…. get whichever is cheapest unless you need specific ports or a software feature one has over the other

      • There are some differences. The Dell is limited to sRGB gamut, while the LG supports 98% (theoretical/claimed) DCI-P3 gamut. The LG also accepts HDR input and supports Freesync.

        • Not sure where your info is from but Dell is also 98% DCI-P3, they all are. Lenovo is also HDR compliant and has the highest (overclocked) refresh rate of 75Hz. Freesync I class as a software feature so if that’s important to you then yes you’d be looking at the LG, but there are other features you will sacrifice by choosing the LG also. For productivity usage I think the Lenovo is the best all rounder.

          • @pavlos: Scorptec website showed Dell as sRGB 98%, so I thought it ships with a clamped gamut

I'm personally not a fan of ultrawides, but if they make that panel with MiniLED I'll probably bite. Highly unlikely though for some time, as GPUs are just beginning to do 4k60 consistently without spending 3k.

            • @twister292: Might be waiting a while for something like that, I can’t see any panels even announced upcoming in a 40” or larger size with 5K2K resolution and curved using miniLED. There’s just the 49” super ultra wide QD-OLED from Samsung.

Pay 5% less when buying on their eBay store

I can vouch for the Philips 49" Dual QHD monitors, been using one reliably almost daily through the Covid years for both work and personal after hours. Neat set up, everything on the monitor, only need a single USB-C cable to your laptop for power and data, easy for me to change over from work to personal laptop. Colour gamut and brightness are great, am also using Macbook and Lightroom on it, you can see more of your photo library on the one screen.

There's the 498P9Z, similar features minus web cam and PD USB-C for $1279.20 from DigiDirect.

    • 498P9Z is not "business grade" and hence the missing PD USB-C but also no Ethernet port (which I actually use).

    • Hey thanks for your comment. I can imagine this monitor would be a breeze with Windows laptops which is my main use case. But how is your experience on the MacBook? I have a 2020 M1 MacBook pro and would want to use the monitor on that. Do you get 5120x1440 @ 60Hz and is it stable? Do you get to use the webcam and all the ports on the Mac?

Please let me know as I'm really interested in getting this.

      • I have been using it for both windows and Mac OS for 2 years plus. Initially with MacBook Pro intel, then MacBook Pro M1 13”, now 16”. I am using most of the ports including Ethernet. No problem.

  • +1

I can’t imagine how this world be usable without a tiled window manager like i3.

    • +2

Fancy zones in PowerToys if you're on windows.

  • +3

woudlnt you just go with the oddsey g9 for an extra $160?

  • +1

I've had this for a couple of years now, its been really good. Why I got it over the Samsungs is for the integrated dock with USB-C PD, Ethernet, speakers and Webcam etc. Very handy if you use a laptop, still handy even after switching to a desktop…

  • 32" is $200 though. Get two of those and have 64 " to play with

    • +2

      You'd need 4 for that.

      • +1

Negged for being smarter, makes sense.

        • +2

LOL that reminds me of a pizza joke:
Man went to a pizza shop, there he ordered a 9 inch pizza, they sold out so the store offered him two 5 inch pizzas saying he’s getting an extra inch for free. The man pointed out the mathematical formula of a circle area is pi r squared, meaning that even if he gets 3, it’s still less than a single 9 inch pizza. So the store gave him 4 😂

This link will help people understand that two 32” does not equate to one 64” in display area.

    • +1

32 is significantly harder to use on a desk than 2 joined 27s. It's not outta your eye line and you don't need to look up.

  • Price increased to $1540

  • I can only see it for $1540. Is the $100 discount applied automatically upon checkout?

  • I used to support a business with a fleet of these. The built in dock was unreliable (particularly the network port), some required daily/weekly reboots, the firmware is made by a 3rd party and not updated. The novelty wore off quickly. Also acts as an echo chamber when sitting and talking facing directly towards the screen.

    • i have the 439P, and yes i can confirm the dock is pretty unreliable.
i swap between laptop and a desktop, it works maybe 30% of the time.
usually have to power off and back on for the USB ports to reinitialise.

everything else im quite happy with though.
