What Are You Playing These Days?

Got a new PC after more than a decade and have been sinking my teeth into Uncharted Legacy of Thieves collection, Breath of the Wild, and Valorant. What are you playing these days?

    Rollercoaster Tycoon

    • A classic!

    • +1

Niiice! It's been sooooo long since I've played that, they really should do a reboot of this, we'd all have an absolute ball.

      • +1

Planet Coaster or Parkitect would be right up your alley. The former if you love building the coasters, the latter if you loved the park management.

        • +1

          Parkitect was the perfect match.

    • +2

Damn remember playing that till 430AM one day. Deleted it after that.

      • +1

Yep, know that pain. I had to delete Age of Empires 2. It was either that or carpel tunnel surgery.

  • +10

Overwatch. I'll stop when I have a gold weapon for each hero. I just finished Goldeneye on xbox, got all achievements, finished every level on 00 Agent, unlocked all cheats. AFAIK that makes me the best Goldeneye player on OZB.

    • +1

I tip my hat at your Goldeneye achievements, man does that bring back awesome memories!

How does Overwatch compare to Valorant if you've played both? This is the first MMO I've ever played and picked it purely based on aesthetics, it was pretty much a toss up between Valorant/Overwatch/Destiny 2.

      • Overwatch is good because it feels fair. Heroes are always unbalanced and always being tweaked, but the mechanics feel fair. If you lose you feel like it's because you didn't play good enough, or usually your team didn't play good enough. It's a but like Counter Strike where it's the same thing over and over. But more like TF2 mixed with a Disney animation. Overwatch 2 is free to play and there's no real reason to buy skins, so there's no reason to not check it out.

        • Lots of poor reviews for Overwatch 2 vs 1? Granted I've not played both so should probably experience it for myself before forming opinions. I'm trying to find something with a gentle learning curve, a very casual gamer at best these days and I remember trying DOTA 2 years ago and got so overwhelmed and stopped it after an hour or so.

          • @minty: Overwatch is very gentle. Even ranked, if you suck or are new you just get put in low bronze with the rest of the people that suck or are new. Don't worry about people screaming at you or cussing you out. That's that part of Overwatch. The biggest difference between Overwatch 1 and 2 is that in 1 you had six heroes per team and in 2 it's 5. Overwatch 1 also has all the history, like in season 1 where you could choose any hero you want, you could even all be the same hero.

I basically only play ranked open queue, which lets everyone choose any hero, and if someone quits then no one else can join to take their spot. But if you play quickplay then it doesn't matter what you do, you could spend all match walking into a wall and no one would bat an eye.

            • @AustriaBargain: Overwatch has long been on my radar so will definitely give it a go thank you :) I mostly play RPG/point-and-click /platformer like Divinity Original Sin 2/Disco Elysium/Ori/etc and have never really engaged with FPS, even back in the days where CS was the only thing people played, have always been absolutley rubbish with FPS so Overwatch looks like a great option.

What's the significance of 6 vs 5 heroes? To the uneducated it seems insignicant?

              • @minty: It makes the battles a bit less hectic, one tank instead of two. But I play open queue which guarantees at least two tanks per team, which is more like classic Overwatch. The heroes are balanced for standard queue (two healers, two damage heroes, and one tank) so open queue (where you can have five tanks if you really want) you can switch things up, you can go to Junkrat the bomb hero mid match instead of being stuck in one role.

Starting off you are best to just play quickplay mode, I think you need to level up to a certain level before playing ranked anyway.

Some heroes in Overwatch need less aim skills than others, so if you suck at aiming there's still a lot you can do in Overwatch. The best thing to do is just jump in blind and play around in quickplay, try out all the heroes.

                • @AustriaBargain: Ah I see, that makes sense and I'm sure more so when I start playing.

Question, as I've absolute nil MMO exposure, do most of games nowadays monitor my newbness and clump me with players of same performance? Been forever since I've played CS so perhaps it's changed since then but back in the days it just joins me with any server and I get 1:50 kill ratio at best :-/ which isn't a lot of fun. I know there are practice bots etc etc but I just wanna jump in and play a game or two with same skilled players.

                  • @minty: Yes Quickplay will try and place you in matches based on skill, as well as ping and some other metrics, but skill is always the one it tries to match best. Of course it's not always possible, you will end up in matches where you are the best player and where you are the worst, but the system will try to make both teams overall similar in skill. I wouldn't even bother with practice bots, it's just quickplay. I never play quickplay because it doesn't count for anything.

            • @AustriaBargain: "Don't worry about people screaming at you or cussing you out. That's that part of Overwatch."

              Fk that

          • +1

@minty: You know those cheap dollar store knock-offs? That’s what Overwatch 2 is like.

            • +1

@CascadeHush: I wish they didn't remove the original Overwatch to bring out this "improved" version. Overwatch was my favourite game, played it since it came out. Absolutely hate Overwatch 2, tried to get into it but just couldn't. Can't even play the game that I paid for. At least I have a lot more time to do other things now.

              • @amberstyre: Yeah, 4 years of trying to claw my way to mid silver, can finally move on.

How many attempts on Facility for sub 2:05?

I reckon I ran that level for nearly a month straight to unlock invincibility on that when I was younger. Dr Doak always ruining my chances.

      • I think about ten. It's actually really easy because Doak is almost always in the labs near the end, near the door you have to hack, and you only need to stand hear him for like a second. You'd think he would be in one of the other labs but his usual spot on 00 Agent is near the very end.

The hardest part is getting overwhelmed by the guards at the start. It helps to close doors behind you ask you walk through them to slow the guards down. And use a mine on the three guards in the middle of the big hall, because if you stop to cover and take them out with your gun you risk getting overwhelmed from the guards behind you.

        • Bruh I’m calling bs on this stat. I’ve just run facility for my 10th consecutive and Doak has never once been in the final area before the coded door.

I have the worst RNG clearly. On the plus side getting a consistent 1:15 or so to the door so as long as he’s there on one of my runs it will be achievable!

          • @Pelicannn: Doak was so reliably in that last area that I never even bothered checking any of the other areas on 00 Agent.

            • @AustriaBargain: Finally. No shit 21 runs I counted. Bar the first one of me taking it slow and chill.

              https://i.imgur.com/s2hftYm.jpg

              • @Pelicannn: Also another tip for xbox Goldeneye is to go into the settings in your watch and set the D-Pad to "move/strafe" or whatever. The d-pad is absolutely necessary to walk fast, where you walk kind of diatonically to get the most speed. On Statue I found I literally needed the d-pad strafing to get the cheat, but it would have made the other levels a lot easier if I knew about it sooner.

                • @AustriaBargain: I’m on switch, but I use 1.1 Honey and just strafe with C buttons. Seems to do the trick for me!

Just got the sub 1:20 on 00 Agent Archives which I’d say is on par difficult as Facility.

    Xylophone.

I maxxed out my skill level out on the bongos, put a few dozen hours into the triangle (a really grindy experience) and I found the microtransactions and DLCs involved in playing wind instruments just too off-putting.

    • +1

After 2 years on the recorder I've moved up to the bamboo (Xiao) flute and the difficulty jump insane. Also have a saxxoon but reed instruments are a totally different beast.

Absolutely recommend a Yamaha recorder, lots and lots of songs, portability and YouTube makes it very accessible. You'll be playing Fur Elise sooner than you think.

    • +3

Isn't Xylophone just a posh version of Whack A Mole?

  • +9

Hogwarts Legacy releases this week, looks amazing

    • Hell yeah - can't wait!

    • I've got a day off on Friday :D

    • +1

I got the deluxe edition so have been playing since yesterday - it is a LOT of fun. Hope you enjoy

      • +2

Thank you so much for posting this. I had no idea that you could buy the Deluxe Edition from the 7th. Just drove to JB Hifi and grabbed one. Thank you so much!!

        • You're welcome! Have fun

  • +2

    Survivor.io - most addictive game I’ve played.

  • +8

    RIMWORLD
If you have never played it, DON'T !!!

    • +4

      Giggles rim….

    • +1

Man, I've downloaded this soooo many times but could never get into it, was glad to see Dwarf Fortress getting a facelift but I know it'd go way over my head. Was there a baby step game that you played before stepping up to the likes of Rimworld? I don't really play much and it's just overwhelming :c

      • +3

Throw it on the lowest difficult and disable raids. Watch a few "Let's Play" on YT.

        Rimworld is absolutely top tier.

        • +1

Alright I'll give it an another go, most of the problem is me with zero exposure to such games but part of it is the tutorial, I know it's a game with layered depth but the introduction throws everything into a player's face and I just don't know or remember what to do next. People sacrificce their kidney for this game so I've been wanting to validate!

          • +1

@minty: Please do. You won't regret it. One of my fav games of all time, not kidding.

          • +2

@minty: Why sacrifice your kidney when you can take someone else's and make a skin couch while you're at it?

          • +1

@minty: The game tells you upfront to treat it as a story generator and not as a competitive game you need to win.

It is full of hidden gems in how your pawns interact with each other and with your management of them.

The learning curve is huge. As others have said watch a few youtubes on it.

It is very micro managey, and after playing this for 20 hours it will have either fixed any human memory issues you suffer from or driven you insane.

          • +1

@minty: You can start on chill difficulty until you learn the mechanics, the bump it up once you're ready if you want

  • +3

Hades. Trying to get 32 heat on each weapon.

    • +1

Still trying to get my first win :(
22 attempts so far and only got passed elysium for the first time today

      • +1

Controller helps heaps. Don't be afraid of turning on god mode for the first win.

It gets easier when you unlock the mirror and different weapons.

I watched quite a few youtube videos and guides for help. I found haelian to be easy to listen to.

  • +4

GTA 2, cos who doesn't love a Gouranga!

  • +1

Warzone 2, Goat Simulator 3, Ultimate Chicken Horse (this game slaps for couch multiplayer up to 4 people, it's an absolute riot), and very very soon a shitelode of PS VR2 games

  • +1

hell let loose - picked it up recent my god its amazing

    • Yep I recently got on this a few weeks ago. It is so brutal to newbies. It does make me want to upgrade my equipment though. It is so much fun when your get a great communicating team.

      • I hope you folks are building lots of garrys!

  • +2

    Civilization 4

  • +1

Aren't the first two non PC games?

    • UNCHARTED™: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PC thru Steam

Breath of The Wild - Emulator possibly?

    • +6

Uncharted is a Sony port, only about 2hrs in but it seems very stable and looks great, BotW can be played via an emulator and it runs flawlessly :)

      • Any tips for playing BOTW via emulator? Keen to give it a whirl :)

        • +1

yeah man download "cemu" its the wiiu emulator i can get it running at a smooth 60fps with changing some of the settings

    • +1

Breath of the Wild plays better on PC than on Switch, and has for - quite literally - years now.

You just need the cemu emulator and a copy of the game (I own the Wii U disc, though I'm sure many people just pirate it too).

Even a very old gaming PC can play it at 1080p and 60 FPS (Switch is 720p 20-30FPS) but gaming rigs with very fast CPUs can get 120FPS an/or 4k (compared to other games, it's the per-core CPU speed that matters most for emulation, GPU not so much).

  • +7

    SC2

    • So good. All 3 campaigns and the coop modes are great if you're not wanting to be competitive.

  • +3

    Immortals Fenyx Rising

  • +2

COD Warzone … I'm probably the only player globally not hacking.

    • +3

i eagarly pre-loaded new warzone, after not touching cod/bf /battle royale games for about 3-4 years.

uninstalled after 2 rounds. Just not my scene anymore, which is a shame as I really loved COD/pubg back in the day…

      • +2

offf… PUBG.. went from being amazing refreshingly new style, but left when the hackers ramped up hard.

Came back a year later and the quality was gone.

        • these days i prefer to just watch championship replays , i could never be that good and watching high level play is actually way more satisfying than spending the same amount of time dying, over and over HAHA

        • I've not played anything since the early CS days where people just had aim bots, how has the hacking advacnced these days?

        • I liked PUBG a lot, but these days it seems it's just full of bots, at least in solo matches which I prefer. And after you've cleared them, there's those one or two level 500 players who just kill you with one shot that you never saw coming. Gets old really quick. I love the gameplay and mechanics, it would be great to have more actual humans playing and with more people you'd probably get more skill based matchmaking too.

      • +1

Check out dmz in warzone 2, first online cod I've enjoyed since COD 2.

        • I just want to go back to old cod with noob tube and pre nerf dual 1887’s lmao

  • +4

I am currently re-playing Sleeping dogs and MGS V - have finished both multiple times but still good after all these years.

    • +4

I recommend unlocking the Police outfit in Sleeping Dogs (DLC mission only) and replaying the story missions with it equipped.

Without spoiling it, it's worth it.

      • +3

Yeah I usually play with police outfit as soon as it’s added to inventory (after the bus racket mission I think it was)

        • +2

Excellent, the cutscene with the dining table at the back of the restaurant never fails at making me laugh.

    • The only game I've ever played more than once was Skyrim. How do you even play those games mutiple times? Neither of those games seems like the ones where there's a siginificant influence of storyline based on your actions? Or are you just playing them again for the nostalgia?

      • +2

Nostalgia, good story, good game mechanics, just satisfying overall imo.

I also have played skyrim heaps but never finished it as always get bored like 30-40 hours into play through when I have inevitably somehow gone and made a stealth archer assassin again even though I swore this play through would be a duel axe Viking berserker.

        • Haha, me too! I always plan with the best of intentions that I'm going to be up and personal but always ended up sniping them from half the map away. My Skyrim playthrough relied heavily on mods. Do you repeat the second or third attempt just as it was played the first times or do you mix it up with mods?

          • @minty: nah i never got around to mods, i do the console money add, and unlimited inventory carry weight but that's it.

though this imo also does ruin the game… same issue I have with f04 and f0 vegas. But at least I have finished both of those lol.

        • +1

This is me with Elden ring, just grind to level 130ish and get too annoyed with things killing me at this level as easily as I was getting killed by it at level 70.

  • +2

Crusader Kings 3 (GOAT) and working my way through Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection.

    • +1

Dammit, you again…! I've been looking at CK2 and 3 for years, when I hear people's tales of the game it sounds like 1001 different weirdo rando things can happen and sounds like a ball, but I just don't know how to get into it, must've played, well, tried, the tutorial like a dozen times each, but it's just too much to take in for someone who doesn't play any grand stragedy.

      • CK3 is super beginner friendly compared to CK2. It's another of those games that watching a "Let's Play" on YT is a great idea first so you can see how it all works. CK3 is very unique as it's basically a grand strad mixed with 4X with solid RPG elements. Far more than just blotting the map like some of Paradox's other games.

        • My only gripe is that Paradox drip feed DLC content like The Sims series.

It will be a while until CK3 is as robust with features as CK2 was. I still enjoy it but it feels a little dumbed down from CK2.

          • @bcdubz: Yes to an extent, but every DLC they release a free patch with updates. Can't go back to CK2 as the mechanics are soooo much better. Just embarking and disembarking armies in CK2 from ships was frustrating as hell.

            • @Typical16-bitEnjoyer: They do keep improving CK3 and there are a lot of nice quality of life features, but having sunken almost 900 hours into CK2 it feels like there is a lot less to do in CK3 despite the improvements.

I'm sure it will fill out and become as feature packed as CK2 eventually, I just wish we didn't have to wait so long.

            • @Typical16-bitEnjoyer: Yes I get what you mean about the ships but don't you think that CK3 should have a naval system as it makes more sense. Plus this is the medieval ages where nations like Byzantine empire and Venice(nominal Byzantine vassal) had navies. Navies could change the outcome of the war completely. Like the crusaders should not be able to just move all of their troops to the levant like that. Their should be a mechanic where you can loose lots of troops if your not careful with transporting and you should be able to blockade and support sieges with the navy,

          • @bcdubz: CK3 is nice but I am still waiting for them to fix the Eastern Roman/Byzantine empire as the game shows them as feudal which is wrong as they should be shown as a bureaucratic imperial government with themata/themes instead of feudal duchies and counties.

Zelda BOTW. Destroyed Gannon, but still collecting Koroks, about 500 left to go. Think I'll go at it until the next one drops in May :P
