What Are You Playing These Days?

Got a new PC after more than a decade and have been sinking my teeth into Uncharted Legacy of Thieves collection, Breath of the Wild, and Valorant. What are you playing these days?

Comments

    • I remember when I was cruising around the castle looking for loot and ran into Gannon, almost killed him before I realized that might end the game and then ran away (or maybe I died on purpose). I was like "hmm I'm a bit overpowered, but I don't want to end the game". So went back to collecting stuff until Hades entered my life and I stopped playing it completely.

    Diablo Immortal + MWII

Don't have time for anything else or Mrs will crack off

Play ARAM in League of Legends for 2-3 games a night
Too busy in life, only get about a hour for it.

    • +1

as someone who dropped LoL around the time of the big mordekaiser re-work years ago, is the community still a toxic cesspool?

I used to average around 6 hours a day playing league with friends and while I could put up with the community, the mordekaiser re-work was the last straw lol

      • +2

Yes last 2 years they made strict ban rules around slurs and seems most of the Chinese student community left.

  • +2

    GT7 and D2

  • Hitman World of Assassination (previously Hitman 3). The new Freelancer mode is game changing and a lot of fun.

    • I got to play just the first mission a few weeks ago, the first Hitman game since forever and it was so much fun, whatever stupid method I thought of it was possible, I see at the score board there's so many many many more ways to off someone, do you just get into it after a few missions and start to think in quirky ways or did you look up walkthroughs? Some of the solutions are absolutely wild.

      • I've been able to complete most of the challenges on my own but some are so out there that I've needed a guide. You can be so sadistic in the game and just go out murdering the whole map.

Admittedly I spent 3 hours killing and disposing of everyone in various ways. It makes GTA look harmless.

        • +2

me: okay i am totally going to silent assassin this mission

also me: gets spotted within first 2 minutes

oh boy, here I go killing everyone on the map again

          • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: There was a mod for Hitman 2 and briefly for Hitman 3 where you'd get 100 of every item and every gun dumped somewhere on the map. It made killing everyone on the map so much more fun.

A marathon to see how many people I could electrocute.

Original Duke Nukem and Prince of Persia platform games on floppy….
back when games were simple, so were the controls… and no cheats.

    • +2

      Ah hem. No cheats?

      GOD or GOW

    • +2

if you started PoP with Pince.exe/megahit the inbuilt cheatcodes were enabled lol

    • I am almost certain Duke Nukem had cheats

  • +4

    with myself

I'm not sure if my games are worth new PC gaming, 😁, but currently, it's Prince of Persia, SC2, Grounded, and a bunch of really retro titles that I put FINALLY put into my 2DSXL.

  • FH5 but just to play the weekly challenges, unlock the cars I haven't already got (nearly at 600)

Just got a lapboard and mouse, wanted to get back into a bit of COD (don't have a gaming pc)

    • Have had FH5 since launch, but can't get into it, not sure why. Would rather fire up FH4.

I think it's great. Soundtrack and gameplay is just fun.

I enjoy rhythm games in general, but I also like how I can just pick it up and play for a bit when I'm a bit time poor.

  • Will be playing Yakuza Ishin

  • +2

Been playing Pokemon Soul Silver again on my 3DS alongside Pokemon Violet on Switch.

Playing through Jedi: Fallen Order when I need a night off Pokemon.

Other than that, I still do my annual playthroughs of Fable and Skyrim, and occasionally get back into my multiplayer games in CS:GO, Overwatch or CoD.

Forever longing for the early COVID days of Warzone. Not sure I'll ever play with my mates again as much as I did then.

Stray and a slow play-through of Horizon Forbidden West.

    • How's Stray? There are some cat-persons at home who are interested…

      • I'm enjoying it. It's definitely a fun play for cat-persons. There's a button to meow. The cat movement is really good. So far, it's been quite relaxing to play.

Into The Breach and Faster Than Light.

    • Have they been updated? I recall how punishing FTL was lol

      • Into the breach got a free update about 6 months ago.

Added new squads (some really unique ones that are very enjoyable to learn and play as) scenarios, pilots, enemies and weapons.

Also added in an unfair mode which is more difficult than hard mode.

        • Cool, I might give it a go again.

      • +1

FTL has a thriving community around a mod called multiverse. I highlly recommend.

        • +2

I'm supposed to be working… Now my todo list is moving into the backlog 🫠

        • +1

Oh dear lord why did you tell me about this. There goes my weekend…

    • Good choices! Kinda wish they had mods for FTL

  • Overwatch 2 but my enjoyment is slowly fading.

A bad tank and/or DPS on your team and it's 10-15 mins of misery.

  • God of War 2, Fall Guys and H Forbidden west

Morrowind, Genshin, looking for something else but nothing came to interest.

Sold Warframe accounts cause its has become a spiral abyss of grindfest and the Devs themselves doesn't even have clear path and just keep adding frames to make money.

Sold my World of Warships accounts, cause it PTW and too many cancers.

    • Hard to sell? Get much for them?

      • $300 for my last Warframe account with 20k platinum, this is back when they introduced the new open world map and (profanity) everybody's "soul skill"? Can't remember what it called.

Then I moved to World of warships, my last WoWs account sold for $550 USD, but worth $2k on some famous trading place. Its when they introduced subs.
Then the buyer tried to resell the account and got flagged by WoWs, and they returned it to me by back dating to my mobile number.
I hated the game so much by then, I just posted the login in Discord, and Ex Clan member took possession of it.

Farcry 6, my old i5 ddr3 pc can only just pull it off.
I'm actually running it on ultra and somehow it just sorts itself out, doesn't seem to run any better if I lower the settings, (although the FPS is a bit higher)

Also just ordered a Super console X King so that should be fun.

  • Bf 2042 forever…on xbox x

  • Unfortunately, the Aussie servers have died in the last year, but on the odd occasion that there is an Australian server up and running, Americas Army: Proving Grounds is one of my favourites.

SC2, if you got canon rush, that was me :-)

  • Hell let loose

  • It is interesting to see no one mention about tactical game so far. Mostly dominated by FPS type of games.

    • Cos ppl keep cannon rushing me and I then quit and uninstall. The meta on some rts games requires a high level of timing, coordination and concentration. I'm well past the time when I could read FAQs, forums and watch YouTube videos of build orders and get the playing time necessary to have fun, while being semi competitive.

      • +2

SC2 has fantastic campaigns and solid coop mode. I really enjoy playing both when I'm not feeling up to the stress of PvP.

Hogwarts Legacy was just delivered. Installing Day 1 patch now. Can't wait to get into it.

Used to play games at competitive level, eg embarrassingly was top 500 in the world at Fortnite, but I did such a good job of beating the addiction that I can't seem to play anything anymore haha. Anything new bores me.

I'm at the point now where I'll probably just continue to do a yearly run through of Battlezone 1 (the 1998 storyline) and nothing else.

    • +1

That's actually quite impressive considering how many Fortnite players there were at it's peak. Did you win prize money? New gaming rigs? Were you with a team?

      • +3

I outright won two of the first WC qualifiers (you got to play 10) but didn't qualify because I only ended up playing 8 and flopped for 6 of them. This was at the end of my peak though as I'd just secured a good job and lost the ability to play during the week.

Never really played for a team, I did try outs for some Australian ones and got in but never actually joined because it was super lame haha. I also wasn't good enough to play for the 2 premier Aus teams at the time. It's worth noting that while top 500 out of 250m players is high, the jump from 500 to 100 (where the actual pros are) is immense. I could dump on most Aussie streamers, but the actual competition players were just so much better (and more importantly, consistent) than I could ever have been, so never won anything monetary.

The most depressing thing about getting this good is that if you do the maths on top 500 of 250m active monthly players, it equates to playing in the national squad for most sports I play (assuming the ratio of casual to try-hard players is similar for sporting and gaming).
I also did the maths on time and reckon I spent a good 4000 hours on the game over a period of about 2-3 years. This is not crazy for some gamers, but for a reasonably normal adult with a job and hobbies it was insane. 4000 hours is more than I spent on my degree… you could learn a language, trade, software speciality etc in that amount of dedicated time.
This is not to mention the negative impacts of playing so competitively and often. Unlike sport, there's no outlet to physically try harder when you fail, and it's harder to blame yourself when there are so many external factors like network or programing glitches. So I was much quicker to anger during these years, much less patient, and really struggled to get my life together because there was easy dopamine waiting at home for me.

My hot tip for anyone with an addictive or hyper competitive personality is to never, ever play competitive PC games haha.
Everyone says gaming is good in moderation, but for myself I've shown beyond doubt that it's just not feasible.

        • Sounds like someone I knew. Rages so hard when the team underperforms, otherwise a well-manner guy… Brain chemistry unbalance is very worth treating, unless you want to be dompamining for life. Games are not the reason but a trigger to help you see it, sadly not many people understand this and blame blame blame.

I hope you have found a way to balance your life. It sounds like you have it figured out, well done :)

          • @frugalftw: Strangely I only align with about half of that.
Eg in team sports (even at the time) I was very forgiving of failure (eg getting dropped off my bowling in cricket). The rage was purely self directed or at inanimates like the internet.

Games are not the reason but a trigger to help you see it

I also somewhat disagree with this. I didn't have noticeable anger issues prior to hardcore gaming, and within maybe 6 months of the final cold turkey quitting of gaming I was back to my baseline. I've had some extremely stressful periods since and didn't get close to being as unhinged as I would have been for simply losing a match in the gaming years.

Perhaps I'm in denial, but I very much blame gaming haha.

            • +1

@900dollaridoos: That's interesting. I think what you are describing might be the snowballing effect. Everyone is capable of raging or whatever bad behaviour that comes to mind, when the right conditions are met. To a lot of people, competitive gaming is the perfect setup and very accessible too. It is still purely external to you though.

I know you are half joking about blame, but still want to remind you blaming takes you away from being responsible. 'Because the game was holding a gun to my brain, I had to play it nonstop!' Not really. And you did pass the test and got out of it :)

    Games I need to revisit:
Being a DIK, DOS2, Fallout 4, Nier Automata, Witcher 3 next gen update, Valheim , No Man Sky, LA Noire

  • God of War ragnarok and back 4 blood with friends in coop

  • Slogging through Death Stranding, sitting through probably 7 hours of cutscenes!

  • Not really doing much "gaming" these days, and if I do play anything it's usually a quick something on mobile (was Mighty Doom, but I have now downloaded Survivor.io and Vampire Survivors to give a try, thanks to posts on this thread).

And now, since someone commented on there not being any tactical games, I figured I'd finally post:

If I do happen to get a decent game in, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance (specifically the community lobby Forged Alliance Forever) is my usual. If I'm not interested in multiplayer, my current game to complete is Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak. And if I happen to feel like shooting up, Fortnite is fun and quick to jump in.

  • Street fighter V. Got it at launch a few years ago and was very underwhelmed coming from SFIV. Got back into V late last year and have been having a blast. Getting ready for VI coming out in June!

    • I've learned the lesson. I'll buy SF at least a few years after release.
