Best Deal for 25Mbps nbn

All the best deals seem to be for higher speed plans.

I live by myself - only use one device at a time.

Most I use is 1080p streaming of Netflix or on demand channels. I would use this for a max of 5 hours per week and not during the week (so not weeknights).

Apart from that it's just Browsing on phone / social media / occasional work from home / smart home devices.

I'm currently with Aussie BB but I just don't see the value in them - paying an extra $20/month - considering my needs.

But I don't want to be with a complete dud of a company for what I want.

  • I love by myself too

      Are you married?

  • I recently signed up to Tangerine 25/10 at $44.99/mth first 6 months.
    Been OK so far.

Also with Tangerine. overall like 98% of the time its been good/fine. paying the full price of 59.90 atm.

There was a time where I had no internet for 2 days due to a fault, customer service was a bit average but again, most of the time its been fine, usually have 3 devices going for myself and 2 kids, been fine speed wise.

I've done some zoom and exams online with it too, no issues.

  • I have issues with Zoom when using cheaper NBN providers.

I also suspect that a majority of the garbling sounds you hear when calling CBA or other companies is due to people working from home with sub-standard NBN performance…

Their fraud line is terrible, they need to fix their shit; but I suspect they are all on More NBN. Vocus. lol.

BTW: It won't be fixed any time soon.

    10 Year Contract

    • I'm on More CBA 50/20.. no issues with quality of connection.

Happy with the 24 month intro price too

      • My internet has cut out 3 or 4 times a day since I joined with More! Ugh!

        • Can’t say I have had experienced the same issue.

I’d churn if that occurred to me.

  • I use zoom at home maybe twice per year. Not a big factor.

Tangerine or More Telecom should be alright then.

@Thatbargainhunter - also Tangerine has promo for 6 months - $15 off ($44.90) then goes to $59.90. But if you want a better deal than this, i'd go for Leaptel 50/20 at $59.95 for 12 months, then switch to the Leaptel 25/5 $59.95 after 12 months promo is over.

  • 25Mbp NBN - Best Deal

hmm you may as well look into 4G home broadband ( at least price wont change after 6 months or so)

  • I love by myself - only use one device at a time.

    🤣🤣🤣

    Too much info…

    25Mbp NBN - Best Deal

More Telecom (25/10) is $46.20 for 12 months if you are a CBA customer…
    50/20 is $53.90 for 12 months.

    • I have a CBA account as backup card for travel and got cardless cash, as I often don't have my wallet (just so a Osko payment to the CBA and get the cash out).

But I'm not sure I really want to get direct debits from, as if I forget to transfer any savings are redundant.

How about flip? Or mate (I know lots of people say mate I'd bad but they all seem to have higher usage requirements than myself).

      • +1

use a CBA credit card then?

    • Can't beat more Telecomms pricing cheapest by far. But they are a Vocus reseller so the network might be a bit hit and miss.
Also no service level agreements or guarantees.

      • so the network might be a bit hit and miss.

I've been with them for a while and always get good speeds…Very low ping too…

      • Tangerine is actually cheaper on their 6 month deal.

  • +1

Move between providers every 6 months.

  • Mate have an NBN promotion at the moment. $39 per month for 25/5 for 6 months.

Dodo have a deal for $10 for the first month for all speed tiers.

If you hate the idea of the free market and don't want to change providers frequently, then Flip Connect have a 25/5 plan for $55 after the 6 month promotional price of $44 and SpinTel have a 20mbps plan for $50 after the 6 month promotional price of $44.

For that last one, I'm assuming SpinTel are oversubscribing the 25/5 tier and providing less CVC so the resulting speed in peak time is around 20mbps. They claim you can access the full 25/5 during off peak times, though they don't specify the exact times anywhere.

  • Same boat, Flip lowest tier had served me well (customer service was also nice when I needed to cancel, didn't give them much notice), currently on Spintel's Black Friday deal, terrible in comparison: higher speed but these drop outs are real. Would try Austpost next.

    • More NBN25 with a Commbank credit card: $46.20/m first 12 months then $59.40/m.
    • Tangerine NBN25 $44.90/m first 6 months then $59.90/m.

Tried Tangerine/Spintel/More over the last 2 years. Very good performance for their lower prices.

  • You will always run into issues using residential grade NBN.
As NBNCo provide no guarantees or Service Level agreements on these services.
To get any form of performance you need to buy a business service, then you can add an ESLA, Ehanced service level agreement to that and so NBNCo will give you higher priority when it comes to faults.
Also business grade services include things like the prioritization of voice traffic so your Zoom and other meetings work as they should.
This would be the best idea for those of you working from home.
You will pay slightly more for a business service though, but a static IP is included which normally costs extra on resi services anyway.

    • And this is relevant to my original question?

  • My comments were aimed at the commenters mentioning the performance of services such as Zoom on the cheaper connections. But if your not working from home and needing to attend online meetings on a regular basis or needing to take phone calls for a call center then my comments won't affect you as much and you would get away with a cheaper connection.
I did also mention that More have some of the cheapest pricing in the market.
