Update Your YouTube Payment Method to Avoid Service Disruption

Has anyone else revived this email?
I just don’t want to lose YouTube premium because it is the best ever. I just can’t bring myself to pay the $25. Does anyone know if they are suspending accounts or is this just a threat at the moment?

Due to a recent change in Visa's processing policies in Argentina, payments may be declined if your card was not issued by an Argentine Bank. If you use an international Visa credit card or debit card, payments may fail and your subscription may be suspended.
To avoid a disruption in your membership and other purchases, please add an Argentinian-issued credit card to your payment methods as a primary or as a backup payment method.

To check your YouTube payment methods:

  1. Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships
  2. Click Manage membership
  3. Click EDIT next to your existing payment method.
  4. Click the down arrow next to your payment method.
  5. Select another payment method or add credit or debit card
  6. If applicable, enter your card information
  7. Click SUBMIT

To add a backup payment method to be used if your primary payment method is ever declined:

  1. Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships
  2. Click Manage membership
  3. Next to "Backup payment method," click EDIT
  4. Click Add credit or debit card
  5. Enter your card information
  6. Click SUBMIT

        I have had that a few times with Indian youtube. And last month, the payment declined multiple times before finally going through. Think the days of ad-free youtube are numbered.

    If you have a Mastercard it will work, for now.

        Read on reddit: You can still use visa card for YouTube Turkey.

        Looks like time for you guys to pack your bag and fly to Turkey.

        You do not need to wait till your member is finished. You can change now just needs Turkey address.

    for those that want to switch over to Turkey; Credits to @I Smell Pennies

    Instructions (Transferring from a different country)
    Note: If you're signing up for a family plan, best to add your Australia family members / accounts into a family group before signing up. To add family members: https://families.google.com/families

    Go to https://m.youtube.com/paid_memberships and click on your current subscription. Click “manage” then continue to cancel

    Once cancelled, the current subscription will continue until the end of the billing period. But you now have an option to resubscribe back to Youtube Premium

    Connect a VPN to the server in Turkey

    Go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership.

    Enter your Turkey address (get a fake one here(bestrandoms.com)) and proceed to pay by credit card.

    If payment fails, try creating a Turkish payment profile. You can create a new payment profile by following these steps by alcheron: go to https://pay.google.com/gp/w/u/0/home/settings and clicking the pen icon next to "Country/Region" and a link to create a new profile should pop up. You can then add details for the Turkish profile.

      Does this mean that first we need to change the address of everyone in the family to same Turkish address and then apply for Turkish Premium plan or just change the address of the person who sets it up?

      Providing your PII to merchants is a value-added service, and accepted by consumers. They then increase merchant fees for a Win-Win. Only the consumer loses/ gets left confused.

    So can I ask, we can't use VPN to fly to Turkey and then update our address and hence our subscription to Turkey?
    Must we cancel our old subscription and then start up a new one in Turkey???

      Yeah, best to cancel it (altho I didn’t have to back them when going from argentina to turkey because I already had a Turkey payment profile on my Google account)

    Got the email. oh well, good while it lasted.

    Could not get an Turkish VPN to work. India are not accepting new people.

    Ended up in Malaysia. $6 dollars a month and $10 for family. still nearly third of the price of the Aus version. Not the cheapest country on youtube but it was one where my VPN actually worked.

    My Argentinian prem accounts card just got denied so I cancelled and followed Smell Pennies Turkish option and it worked a treat
    Used the following free vpn for windows https://hide.me/en/software/windows

      My youtube payment method via India wasnt working all of a sudden today, so tried above methods. I couldnt get it to change to TRY currency on my phone but worked on laptop using free 'hide.me' software mentioned above. Cheers OP and co.

    accidentally signed up to the yearly Individual account (instead of the family option) but cannot cancel my individual membership for some reason.
    cant seem to upgrade either.

    When I connect to India it shows Canadian Dollars.
    When I connect to Turkey it shows British Pound.
    Both times I verified IP address showed as in the desired country.

      Able to get it to work for other countries.
      But then blank webpage when you click "Renew" or "Learn more".
      As soon as I disable the VPN the webpage loads.

    Have been using YTP India for more than two years.
    My credit card expired and have a new one. Same number but different expiry date and CCV number.
    Got a message from YT a week back to update CC. Did it went through ok.

    Today got an email - Payment couldn’t go through, update CC.

    I started Hola VPN. Selected India the clicked on the link and it takes me to update the CCV number only. There is a message at the bottom there -

    Reserve Bank of India requires that cards support automatic payments according to RBI regulations. If your card doesn’t support automatic payments, use a diff card.

    Looks like Indian YT Preimum is a no go :(

    I’ll cancel the premium now and wait for two more days and then try Turkey method as mentioned in the comments.

    Fingers crossed.

    Update -

    I cancelled my YTP India with 2 days remaining. Interestingly it cancelled my premium immediately on all devices.

    I followed the steps give by user ULT and was able to switch to Turkey Premium. Used Hola VPN.

    Note - when I switched, my Family subscription moved to a single user for 29.99 Turkish money and then I had to click ‘Family’ and pay the remaining 30 Turkish money (TRL I think!).

    Love it, back in the game! Thank you.

    Next up if fixing Netflix with the new CC details.

    Just got a msg in YT to update my primary payment method despite my current card still having a couple of years life.

    Tried adding two other cards but both rejected. Hopefully my 28deg backup card works.

    Would switch it to primary but don't want to risk deleting it first.

    Was on Argentina Family plan and received that.

    Used @I Smell Pennies method to switch to Turkey using PIA VPN and all good.

    Strangely I didn't need to enter a Turkish address.

    I had my YTP subscription running through India. Got an email that they had been unable to process payment on my card.
    Logged in to try and change the card d (although the current card was still good and doesn't expire for 2 years).
    No joy.
    Cancelled the subscription (which was due to expire in 3 days) to try and re-add the card.

    Connecting via a VPN through India I get a blank screen when I try and Renew TYP.
    If I use a VPN through Turkey I get a message that YTP is not available in that country.
    When I can see a price, I see it in AUD or GBP.

    Anyone else experiencing problems? Trying to figure out whether my G account has been flagged, or the VPN provides I am using have also been flagged.

    I received this email a couple of days ago because I had to cancel my MasterCard debit card and replace it with a new one. No problems after I added the new card to the payment section of the website.
