I need late June!! Hope they extend this to later dates…

    • +5

      Unlikely, school holidays

    • How much are the extra legroom seats?

  • +8

Great deals, some rather long layovers though. If you intend to enter Vietnam on these layovers just note that there is no visa-free entrance or visa on-arrival for Aussie passport holders. IIRC Vietnam tourist visas are US$25 online.

    • Do I need visa if I stay inside the airport and just transit through Vietnam?

    • +21

We're right-down sorry for you man

      • +5

I feel sorry for his butler

        Jealousy is a curse

    • +1

Oh no, what ever will you do in a city + airport that have a lot to offer for a single day tourist?!

      • plus no more COVID restrictions.

  • -2

    Lol good luck!

  • I had bought these flights when it was posted the last time however a bit worried (now!) about the return. 17hrs layover in Ho Chi Minh. Anyone knows how the airport is, and if there's a transit hotel that I can book? Travelling with a toddler, so it will be tough

    • +3

Ho Chi Minh city is a overall modern city with your usual high end parts of the city and poor districts. You'll find everything you need within a relative close vinicity. There would definitely be lounges in the airport otherwise would suggest exploring the city (easy to get to and back by taxi) or accomodation close to outside the airport. Basically the airport is right in the middle of the city. If you have no interest in exploring the city you could easily spend quite a few hours just in one of the many large modern shopping centres.

      • Apologies, I should have mentioned, I don't have any intention of dragging my toddler to visit the city after a 13ish hour flight. So when I said HCM, I meant the airport. Would be good if we could get a 6hr hotel to sleep and shower but couldn't find that sort of info in their website. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong

Book a stay at the ibis. Right next to airport and free on demand shuttle. V easy

          • +1

@Kanjus: Thinking you'd need visa for that though?

            • @Mr Frodo: Looks like oz is not on visa exemption list. Shouldn't be too difficult

      • I believe they have sleeping pods at the airside of the terminal. We didn't use them though as they would be quite expensive and our transit was only about 5h long.

    • +1

There are numerous hotels within 500m of the terminal. I'd be confident that you'd be able to book something online and be fine. Airport hotels would be accustomed to requests like yours, you might just have to email them.

Make sure you read up on whether you'll need a visa to leave the airport and go across the road to a hotel, though. I suspect that you'll have to obtain it before you arrive.

      • +1

Yes you need a visa to get out of thr airport. It's like $30-40 a head

        • +7

          $60-80pp Tasmanian?

        • Can you get one on arrival?

          • +2

@Leighman: No visa on arrival, not for Aussie passports at least. Although, you may find lot of travel agents in Australia who facilitate quick turnaround Visa applications within Australia. When we went in 2020 (just prior to Covid) we went through someone in Sydney. We had our visas within the week.

    • There are sleep pods in the airport but these reviews give you an indication of how 'good' they are https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g293925-d13… But I believe that is the only transit 'sleep' option

otherwise get a visa and there are hotels within walking distance or short taxi ride. Need to consider whether your baggage goes all the way through - I assume it will in which case you will need carry on for the overnight stay. The hotels are cheap by Australian standards - a good 3 star double room will be AUD50 - 70. The visa will cost almost as much

The app FLIO can fill in a lot of info

  • I bought about a month ago and the prices are still about the same. I believe the sale hasn't really stopped.

  • Yeah I bought 3 months ago. Same price.

  • I’ve done this before. Ho Chi Minh is a nice city and easy to access from the airport, good for cheap food and massages.

  • come on September flights

  • Does this mean same flights to Vietnam as well? On the cards for this year!

Hoping USA sales are on soon and as well!

    • There was $1300 flights to LAX the other day.

Just flew them 3 times in the last fortnight on a trip to Vietnam (domestic legs).

Outstanding service and carrier. This is a great deal.

Go and explore Saigon during the layover. Amazing city!

    • How's the airplane food?

    • +1

Thank you. Exactly my thoughts too. Why spend long hours at the airport. Just extend the holidays and explore another country.

  • +2

Just returned from a SYD - CDG flight with them and my family of 5. All was great for the price we paid apart from very long check-in in Sydney on 3 Dec. It took almost 2 hours to go through po.
The only thing to note is that max the max weight of included checked in bags is 23 kg per piece, not 30 like some other airlines. Ours were over that and we had to pay $300 for two suitcases on the way to France.

    • So you had 5× 23kg = 115kg and it was still not enough?

      • We had 1x22, 1x28 and 1x26 kg. It we took extra 5 and 3 kg from the last two bags and put somewhere else, we would be fine. But we didn't have extra empty bags and were tired after 2h check-in with three kids jumping on our heads, so just paid the fee.

        • Hate airlines with those requirements. I get that above a certain weight its a WHS issue; but you should be able to combine the weight for all passengers. Even budget lines like AirAsia give you (if you purchase it, of course) 30kg x number of passengers in the group, not 30kg per individual. It doesnt make any difference to the airline, weight is weight whether its in one bag or 4.

          • +1

@dtc: My take it's WHS but Emirates' workers seem to be ok even with 32 kg :D…All European airlines we flew with have same requirements, e.g. we had to repack for Air France to avoid being bitten by extra fees again.

  • Really looking for something that is via Singapore/Malaysia and not 2 week turn arounds. June-Aug or some such would be awesome.

  • Pity nothing mid oct for the rugby world cup knockouts

    Does the airline/France require vaccines?

  • @IWantThatFlight what is happening with Scoot? They used to have 600 AUD flights from Australia to Athens and Berlin. Do you anticipate their sale for the rest of the year as well? Thanks.

  • What is the best site to book from? I understand non-Australian website will have conversion fees?

    • I booked with Aunty Betty (Flight Centre) 3 times, no drama.

  • @IWantThatFlight How to get the same price with a few days stop over in Ho Chi Minh City?

  • I have visa so I am planning to go out but do you know about the checked luggage, do we have to pick them up?

    • my understanding from the website is with the transfer they transfer your luggage. Would also like clarification on this.

  • Thanks. Booked 2x return to Paris, from Sydney for $4,000 total. Includes exit rows. Leaving Mid sept, arriving back mid oct.

QANTAS was over $6,000 for similar flights/times.
On the way over, 2 hour layover. Way home, 14 hour layover. Plan on getting a Visa and spending the day walking around, stretching the legs, having a few 333's and a bowl of noodles or two.
Any tips on best way to get a Visa?

  • This is via my trip.com and not direct with Vietnam airlines. Have checked the reviews on my trip.com and it’s only got 1 star reviews. Can anyone vouch for them here? Any hassles?

  • iwtf does not consider Santiago de Compostela an airport? Bah, unless they have a STUNNING Madrid deal, I will look elsewhere.
