Original Coupon Deal
For those waiting for deals on Amazon, eBay is offering prices on select Anker products that are as good or slightly better than Amazon's price drops.
For example, Soundcore Motion Boom $119 (delivered) or Soundcore Boost $59.49 (delivered).

As far as I can tell the coupon can be used across the entire store. Best to check CamelCamelCamel to see how the discounted price on Amazon compares.

I think only the second deal I've submitted so please excuse any oversights.

how much ccp spyware does it come with?

    • +27
      • +16

Someone gets it! I must have struck a nerve here. I didn't realise how much people like compromised security

        • +10

what a horrible take, eufy (anker) lied and misled consumers and there is no defending that

          • -1

@RhythmicJAY28: I'm a fan of the WAN Show but I think that their segment on Eufy was a little alarmist and misleading. Did you watch the Hook Up's video above?

Still waiting for your reply about what this has to do with the CCP and how it's spyware. Or is xenophobia alive and kicking on OzB?

        • +1

They have a team now called 'the lab' who are all top of their game. This might have been true a few years back.

    • +16

lol all the negs from ppl who havent seen the security issues around Eufy and Ankers handling of it being shocking

      • -1

What does it have to do with the CCP? How is it spyware?

        • Firstly why is xenophobia even something you bring up??? Not everything has to do with race or country of origin. You have just assumed many peoples origin / race and or their home situation and if you knew mine you would feel really silly with that statement lol

If you aren’t aware about the CCP and their involvement in each company then I suggest you do some research. It was also said in a way that poked at it an the fact that it was also a glaringly large issue. Ignoring Linus take as he has a habit to do what he does but everything I’ve read and seen has been shockingly handled by Anker and Eufy. I have Eufy cameras so I was also affected by this

          • -1

            @quikstix:

Firstly why is xenophobia even something you bring up???

Because OP sees poor system design and immediately claims the Chinese government is spying on home users.
If Eufy was an American company, would OP claim the American government is spying on home users?
Has the Chinese government ever spied on home users? There's no need to talk at a government level where obviously both the US and China spy on each other.

and if you knew mine you would feel really silly with that statement lol

You didn't make the claim, and I never mentioned 'xenophobia' to you.

If you aren’t aware about the CCP and their involvement in each company then I suggest you do some research.

Blanket statements like that are meaningless. We are talking about a camera company who had poor system design. OP claims it is spyware that is linked to the CCP. How was that link drawn? Note how OP has not responded.

but everything I’ve read and seen has been shockingly handled by Anker and Eufy. I have Eufy cameras so I was also affected by this

I didn't follow their handling of it closely, but had the impression that The Verge was really milking it for the clicks. Being a Eufy user, what do you feel Eufy should have done better? Which part of Eufy's poor system design were you concerned with the most?

          • +1

@quikstix: Because using xenophobia or racism or any ism is the best way to shut down any argument or discussion and basically not talk about facts or truth or different perspectives but rather imply that any person who doesnt agree with you should be cancelled and not listened to at all.

The way its thrown around is a complete insult to people who have actually suffered through racism most of their life and is usually pushed by people who have their own agenda or are racist / "ist" in some form and use this argument only when it suits their narrative and to gain something but not when it affects someone else.

            • -1

              @lonewolf:

Because using xenophobia or racism or any ism is the best way to shut down any argument or discussion

Note that OP still has not replied after multiple queries. OP is unwilling to describe why he or she claims that Anker/Eufy products come with CCP spyware. OP seems to be equating Chinese product = CCP spying on you with no basis other than Anker being a Chinese company. What would you call that?

              • +1

@eug: Coz he's probably as over your replies as I am

                • -1

@quikstix: Doesn't look like it - you're still replying! And that reply wasn't even to you.

      • Didn't they finally addressed it properly and actually encrypt the feed after that?

        • +14

Doesn't matter when it's only done because you got caught

        • Didn't they finally addressed it properly and actually encrypt the feed after that?

It feels like there's a lot of misinformation out there.

          • +3

            @eug: where is the misinformation?

the public perception or the actual apology letter from them?

            • +1

              @meong:

              where is the misinformation?

I'm a big fan of Linus, but I think the way he presented the topic was a little misleading.
Did you watch the WAN show clip where he talks about it?

…a camera equipped smart doorbell that claims that recorded footage will be kept private and stored locally with military-grade encryption

… but upon some snooping it turned out that Eufy was sending user data to the cloud including full resolution images from the camera despite claiming in their marketing materials that the files are stored locally and there's no Cloud integration.

To me, those are two different things. Recorded footage is stored locally. No recorded footage is sent to the cloud. What's sent to the cloud are still images from motion events so they can be pushed to users' phones.

Later on, Linus goes on to say:

another user discovered that you can remotely start a stream and watch the unencrypted live camera feeds without authentication using VLC

The Verge also published an article that says "So you can imagine our surprise to learn you can stream video from a Eufy camera, from the other side of the country, with no encryption at all."

With reports like that all over the place, it's not unreasonable for a casual person to think:

              • Eufy lied when they said recorded footage is stored locally - they upload your videos to the cloud
              • You can view anyone's Eufy camera with VLC

However if you actually look at the details, recorded footage is stored locally. And in the long Verge article are these two short lines: Also, it seems like it only works on cameras that are awake. We had to wait until our camera’s owner pressed a button before the VLC stream came to life. You also need to know the camera's serial number.

So while Eufy certainly should have designed everything better, I do think a lot of people think the problem is much worse than it is. That's not to say it isn't a problem, it's just not as bad as many people think.

For the record, I've never bought anything Eufy and have no plans to, so have no horse in this race. I was just amused at how Linus so confidently talked about it on the WAN Show before the full details were out.

              • @eug: Excellent response. Alarmism is much easier for the layman to absorb though.

      • Why not explain it to people not in the know then?

    • +5

I did some research into brands when deciding on CCTV system. I remember it was quite clearly stated that Eufy wouldn't work without internet access. If you're at all security conscious, that is enough to tell you that this event is a probability.

From your link, it shows Motion Boom has dropped to the all time low of $119 twice already each for a period of roughly two weeks.
    https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B08LQNL42Z

Honestly seems like the same discounts on both Amazon and eBay just on a different schedule.
With both being the same price I would choose to buy from Amazon AU.
Worst case scenario you need to return or refund in case of a fault, buying from Amazon is the better bet IMO.

Also earlier model Motion Boom's had the "passive radiator inflating problem" in the sun. Basically the first batch didn't have tiny holes to let the expanding hot air out and equalize with outside air pressure, so the passive radiators would be extending out to the maximum and they wouldn't be working properly leading to reduced audio quality.
If this is a problem I would expect Amazon to respond more positively than eBay.

    • It is actually part of ebay 20% deal, So $112
Edit: $112 for ebay plus members

      • I went to that link and still not seeing 20% off from my point of view. Do you need to have eBay Plus?

Can't even find the 20% off deal on ozbargain here. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/ebay.com.au
So I am just going by OP's post where they linked to the 15% off coupon deal which makes it $118.99 for anyone who isn't subscribed to eBay Plus.
Which I think is fair because Amazon's deal does not require a Prime sub to get.

It’s part of ebay deals page above, does it work now ?
And yes for ebay plus members

          • @BaarOzGain: I can see the 20% off now in the image, with code PLUSFEBA.

I am not a eBay Plus member so I can't get it, but this info might be useful to some.

I found the code on ozbargain here of all places lol https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/755961
Maybe worth posting as a deal for eBayPlus members, otherwise some subbers might be only getting 17% off on items instead of 20% off.

        • By the way I bought it seeing your comment and I needed one but not urgent. Didn’t know it’f it is good or not but guess you had good experience?! Reviews seems really good

          • @BaarOzGain: No I haven't gotten one. Just pointing out a problem/issue with passive radiators on early batches. New stock apparently doesn't have that issue, but yeah only an issue if you use it in the sun for a few hours.

    • It's handy to be aware of alternatives to Amazon in any case. I virtually forgot about eBay.
Good point about considering the return policy.

      • +1

        I virtually forgot about eBay.

Yeah to be honest I haven't shopped on eBay much. But I am aware of their habit of jacking prices during these coupon deals from ozbargain.
In the past I had some very poor experiences so stopped shopping on eBay except for the rare cheap item you could get for a few bucks more than Aliexpress but arrive sooner.

My opinion has improved a bit since then though from clicking on all the ozbargain eBay deals.
So I have bought a few items and warmed up to shopping on eBay again.
But yes not just return policy, but customer service experience should be much better on Amazon. If there is a fault no matter how small, Amazon will always pay return postage and give a full refund. So I feel more confident on Amazon for certain items such as electronics (even more so "portable" electronics).

      • I pretty much bought all ebay plus deals during December and returned 4 of them with no issues at all. It sends the label instantly and lots of drop off locations, mainly newspaper agencies

        • I guess eBay Plus members get some kind of satisfaction guarantee? Not sure.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Forgot to say above my Amazon experience has been the same when I am on Prime for a month or don't have Prime membership.

Surely missing a "W" from the brand name.

    • +12

      Ankerw? Is it silent?

  • Thoughts on the SoundCore Flare 2 for occasional beach / park use and also room use for watching videos on the lappy?

    • Looks like it occasionally drops to around $90 on Amazon. Alan Ross has reviewed it.

      • +1

        Alan Ross has reviewed it(youtu.be).

That's who I got the inflating passive radiator fault info on the Motion Boom from.
He also contacted Anker I think and they sent him a newer one from the factory, which he tested and showed it did not have the expanding air issue affecting the passive radiators.

I always confuse these guys with Anko (K-mart brand).

  • The price of Anker A40 seems to be good, has anyone used this TWS? How was the experience?

    • I've had these earbuds for 2-3 months now and they are really really good, both for listening to music/podcast ( I recommend you switch on LDAC if you're on Android, when you listen to music) and taking/receiving calls. Excellent noise cancellation, too.

        Thanks for your reply :)

  • The Anker 737 power bank Is the one I’m waiting for but still over $200 and Anker’s official eBay store won’t sell them but you can buy from Amazon.

It’s true Anker’s PR machine dropped the ball big time on the Eufy cameras and took them ages to fess up but it’s out out in the open. Before Anker’s other brands including Eufy were known about or even discussed Anker had the best reputation for portable battery packs. They have two really good GaN 65W chargers depending on whether you want a wall socket or an extension lead.
Those 737 are great but way over priced.

In the meantime I can personally recommend the Nano II and 543 65W GaN chargers are great just very pricy compared to HEYMIX but there are a bunch of complaints about them yet I have a Heymix 65W wall GaN and a couple of Heymix 30W USB-A and USB-C that haven’t blown up on me…..at least not yet. ;-)

I’d still buy Anker over Heymix if I could afford a few more of their high power portable chargers like the 737 as well as their new-ish GaN 65W 543 slimline or Nano II plug packs.

Edit : I don’t want to fund CCP for bombing Us.! Stop buying Chinese and stop funding attack on us.!

Have a look at all the deals you posted.

They're all made in China. Every single one. Why are you funding the CCP? Why are you promoting Chinese businesses and factories? Why are you funding attacks on us??

      No thanks for this spyware.

How exactly does a Speaker with Bluetooth (No WiFi) spy on you? You don't have to download the App just connect bluetooth and play music from your phone.

And how does a USB power adapter/charger spy on you??

Also since eug exposed your dual personality vibe, you are definitely glowing.
