              @freefall101: Actually I'll agree with this. I've noticed the cheap wines people bring over doesn't taste that great in the food. It's unfortunate because we drink wine and everyone therefore brings it as gifts when they're over for dinner or other events. Unfortunately non vino friends tend to buy the typical crappy stuff you get from Dan Murphys (relative to the nice stuff we buy and drink)… So cookings the next best thing we use it for.

              I just can't imagine $20 of a dozen bottles will be worth the calories and drinking quota vs something nicer.

                  @GrueHunter: It's dumb to believe that because there's not a direct line between quality and price that a sub $2 bottle of wine is likely to be any good.

                  You can get a $20 wine that's better than a $2 wine but it's not likely to be true. You just need to be aware of what you're paying for, once you factor in grape type, brand, locations and reviews you can judge the price. I don't drink champagne for that reason, it's a whole lot of faff around "lees", bottle conditioning, rarity and location that jacks up the price, I'll take a good Aussie sparkling any day. Much like I drink a lot of reisling, it's easier to make and generally great value for money.

                  But it does take actual effort to grow wine and costs. At less than $2 a bottle either this was a very quick process to make this wine or someone is losing a lot of money on it.

    yea not sure about this one, reviews seem like most of the wines are pretty bad, might be worth the $2.67 but if it's not drinkable that's a lot of cooking wine

      Yes and no - most of the time I only get one meal out of a bottle because I'll probably only cook a wine-based sauce every couple of weeks. At that level, 12 meals covered for $30 is pretty good IMO. I might sneak a glass while cooking but I'm not buying to drink really

    Btw pour it into a blender (clock-wise) for two minutes before you drink will upgrades the taste. I used to do it with cheap Aldi wines. Now I just cbf.
