They SB page and T&C's are NOT clear. Is it 16% Japan things only or ALL purchases on Klook? SB page shows for example:

    Klook: Book Activities across Singapore
    Klook: Book Activities across Australia

and both show 16% cashback rate.

    Can anyone confirm please?!

    • The bottom of the SB page says Klook: 16.00% Cashback. I reckon it's 16% sitewide but the rep will have to confirm this.

      • No it's not.
The banner on front page says 16% on JR Pass, JP Attractions and Shows only

    • I'd like to know too. I want to buy the Eurail pass.

    Perfect timing!

  • +2

It says JR pass, JP attraction and shows are 16%. I assume the rest are not

@gotyourback do you know if Universal studio pass, or Klook pass are included?

    • +1

Just bought a USJ ticket, received 16%.

  • How long in advance U can buy jr pass???

    • +1

you can use the voucher anytime within 3 months from the date of purchase

    • +1

      From the Klook website:
We recommend that you book your JR Pass from Klook at least 2 weeks before your trip to Japan. This allows enough wiggle room in the validity period of your Exchange Order. You can't purchase your JR Pass more than 3 months before your trip, as it's past the validity period of your Exchange Order.

    • +1

90 days , you need to select your arrival date before you finalise the booking. All the dates beyond the 90 days will be greyed out

    • Thanks everyone

Got a trip to Osaka on the 18th April so very excited first time to Japan 😁

I'm planning to stay for 2 weeks though split between Osaka/Kobe/koyoto then on the 7th day go to Tokyo. Should I get a 14 day pass or just pimp green pass for 7 days and use the zuica? Card for Tokyo?

      • +3

Activate the 7 day pass only for intercity travels. So see Osaka first and on the day you leaving Osaka, activate the JR Pass, go to Kobe, spend x days, go to Kyoto, spend x days and on the last day of pass validity, travel to Tokyo. I suggest going to Hiroshima and Nara as well.

      • +3

        No you shouldn't get a 14 day pass. That's a waste of $.
One way JAL domestic between Osaka and Tokyo is only 7700 yen for foriengers with 20kg baggage included.
I reckon you should just get some kind of JR West/ Kintetsu Pass, then get a flight to Tokyo
And If you travel a lot within Tokyo, you can always get a Tokyo metro day pass for 600 yen.

      • +1

If you are not intending to take a lot of Shinkansen rides, it should be cheaper to skip the pass and use Suica/Pasmo instead.

        • Ah ok So just maybe bite the full price of 1 Shinkansen ride from Osaka to Tokyo and use Suica/pasmo for the rest including Osaka and kobe/Kyoto ?

          • +1

@agalea101: Can grab daily passes at the airport for tokyo 1/2/3 day stuff. 3 day is like 1500 yen for unlimited metro travel. Usually pays itself off if you do about 3 trips per day on metro. Metro is much more useable then the jr system in Tokyo.

If you are planning to take the skyliner train from the airport they do a convo deal that saves you a bit of cash.

In Osaka use the pasmo card(if you have an iPhone you can use your phone as well). If you planning to travel around Osaka to Kyoto, nara, Hiroshima then the jr west pass is usually enough.

Osaka to Tokyo is cheaper by air but less convenient.

      • Sorry i should have been more clear and thanks everyone for your help

We fly to Osaka - plan was to activate it then and go kobe and Kyoto and other places then on the 7th day use the JR pass to get to tokyo then get a zuica for moving around tokyo?

        Thank u

        • +2

You really shouldn't get the 7 day pass
7 day JR pass cost you 30,000 yen

However, regular train from Kyoto to Osaka only costs 570 Yen, 30 mins.
Osaka to Kobe only costs 410 yen, 25 mins
Then flight from osaka to Tokyo 7700 yen

What's the point of getting a 30,000 yen pass?

        • +1

btw, one way shinkansenn from Osaka to Tokyo costs 15,000 yen only.
Do you think all your train tickets within Osaka Kyoto Kobe worth another 15,000 yen in total?

          • @TanedaR: Im Thinking as above to get Suica and pay the one off to Tokyo though then We might go to the Fox sanctuary in the North so maybe 7 day + Suica

          • +1

@TanedaR: Returned from Japan yesterday and the 14-day JR Pass was not that much of a saving for us. Travelled between Kyoto and Osaka a few times but only once on a Shinkansen as the Rapid Express was more convenient for platforms and connections. JR Pass restricts which Shinkansen you can catch, with the newer trains excluded. Unless carting luggage seat reservations are a complete waste of time as there were always plenty of seats available in unreserved carriages on all of our Shinkansen trips. Suica and Japan Travel app are a must but JR Pass would not have been worthwhile had we not made multiple long-distance Shinkansen trips.

Get onto https://www.hyperdia.com/# to work out the cost of each place you're travelling to/from. Filter by JR Pass only. Then compare total cost to the price of 7 or 14 day pass.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt if you're a noob but it's cheeky/lazy to ask other people to work this out for you and advise.

        • +1

Cheeky, But I'm very thankful for the advice and its first time to Japan so I just went by every Youtuber advice to get a JR pass :( . Plus under the pump cos i need to book all Jap things today before 5 :(

        • FYI on Hyperdia:

          "Timetable Search service Termination notice
As of December 2, 2022, we will no longer offer timetable search.
From now on, we will only offer average time search.
We apologize for any inconvenience, but we will appreciate your continued patronage."

Google Maps, Japan Official Travel App and Navitime are still useful apps for searching Shinkansen travel.

    • I purchased recently, received exchange vouchers via express post in 4 days.

Not that you need the physical exchange vouchers. You can't use the Klook confirmation email or QR code to redeem the JRPass when you get to Japan.

      • Just wondering does the Planned participation date during the Klook booking is the first day usage of the JR pass please?

  • Does anyone know if we can use the online booking system for JR pass purchased from Klook to book the seats on Shinkansen or other express train?

    • Doubtful but I'm interested in the answer as well.

    • +3

      No you cannot.

    • Pretty sure only ones bought from https://japanrailpass.net/en/ can use the online seat reservation system at this time.

  • Any Cap?

    • Didn't say there's a cap

      • Thanks!

  • I wonder what the rate is for japanese rail pass other than JR…

  • -2

Only for today or when's the last date this is valid?

    • +2

Ends at 5pm today. It's in the title and also T&Cs

  • Would this include JR EAST PASS?

    • As long as it's under the "JR Pass" Category

  • Aside from JR passes and tickets to the theme parks, any suggestions on what else is a good buy from Klook for Japan?

I did purchase a wifi thing which worked out to be good value

    • +1

Depending where you're going, check out Joypolis and TeamLab Planet tickets also.

  • I got a trip in June, know if I can buy tickets like teamlab and universal studios that far in advance? I'm hearing that it has to be within 3 months.

    • +1

      Universal Studios - No.
      Teamlabs Planet - No.

Klook future date availabilty is different to direct website bookings.

  • Everyone make sure you note this fineprint!

JR Pass, JP Attractions and Shows (Valid for Orders Placed between 11AM and 5PM AEDT)

So only 30 mins left for those…

NOTE: Which is weirdly contradicted by the bottom of the page…

Unlimited travel around Japan with a JR Pass 16.00% Cashback Ongoing

    • I couldn't get the birthdays of all my group so couldn't book in time. It does day Ongoing though on Shop back so hopefully will be available tomorrow too

      • +1

They're removed that wording now :/

  • People here seem to be pretty knowledgeable. Can someone clarify to me what the difference is between buying the JR pass via a third party vs buying from the JR rail website directly?

As I understand it, you can't book seats with passes bought through a third party. Is that at all? Or you just can't book until you have exchanged the pass on arrival?

I just looked on the JR website and it looks like you can only book the passes 1 month in advance. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong? And if I book through this website, can I immediately start booking seats even though I don't collect the pass until I arrive in Japan?

Last question, I am going to be there for 3 weeks from the 4th of April. Would the potential annoyance/delay of having the seats all booked out at what is a peak time of year be more hassle than the money saved by going through Klook would be worth?

    • +1

buying from official website allows you to reserve seats online and in advance before you receive the pass. With third party you can only reserve on the machine or in person in japan after you exchanged your exchange order for a real pass (but you can do it before the pass is activated). I dont think the trains will be full in April before the golden week and I personally just placed an order for 14 day pass to use from april 12

      • Great, that's very helpful, thanks. It's a honeymoon trip so not wanting to introduce any stress for reasonably small (in the context of the whole trip cost) savings. So passed on it this time but will reconsider if another deal comes up before I buy the pass through the JR website.

Is it correct that you can only purchase 1 month in advance through the JR website? I can't see that specified anywhere but I can only seemingly select March 17 as the latest possible start date when I go to purchase right now.

        • +1

yea 1 month is true. I think it has to do with you can only reserve seats 1 months in advance so they only sell it that way.

          • @nanny0tt: Great, thanks so much for your help!

            • @EBC: Official website is also more expensive.

    • It's more expensive to buy from JR website because it's a domestic ticket sale hence 10% GST.
If you buy from from Klook or KKday or other travel agent, it's tax free, at least 10% cheaper.

      • Interesting… Will have more to consider if another deal comes up then.

  • purchased with 3 min to spare. Didn't have time for universal studios though. Future Klook cashback soon with anyone else?

  • +2

    Just had $291 back confirmed for 2 x 21day green passes πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

That’s roughly $700 cheaper than going through JR, just to be able to reserve seats online. Apparently can do at automated machines at stations now, which you have to collect your online reservation tickets from anyway!

  • Missed out.. i hope they do another cashback
