  • AAA is the best deal

  • +4

Yes!!! Perfect timing for my wife’s…. Errr… ummm… remote control car collection.

  • Anyone in Melbourne wants to utilize the $10 off $50 coupon and split? I could take 8 AAAs.

  • +2

Good stuff dude, I'm gonna grab a ladda these.

  • Also available LADDA batteries with charger.

I assume you are referring to this.
I think you are better off buying a smart charger.

    • +1

A mod added that lol, it's no good I agree

  • I don't know about these green ones, but I find the wrapper on the LADDA batteries starts cracking and peeling a lot sooner than Eneloop. The battery may be good (or may not be) but the wrapping sure isn't.

    • The laddas charge hotter from my own experience. (feels a lot like the old aldi batteries that used to charge really hot)

It's probably a different formulation inside those ladda batteries, but no one has done any discharge tests comparing the two since 2014.

I also would expect the chinese versions to have caught up by now… You would think China's panasonic would be able to get their hands on the same OEM formulation as the hobbyking guys or something. It seems weird that the technology transfer has not already occurred. nb See BYD's copy of Tesla technology.

  • Can I use this in my eneloops charger?

  • Its tempting but my bulk pack of Varta Alkalines are still taking 75% charges like kings.

i know NiMh will survive more cycles; but Im above 10 cycles on the Alkalines so far.

    • How are you recharging alkaline batteries?

      • You just use an alkaline battery charger like this https://www.jaycar.com.au/alkaline-ni-cd-ni-mh-battery-charg…

But Alkaline batteries leak - and the heat from charging them significantly accelerates the leaking, and you can only recharge them x number of times.

Which is why proper rechargeable batteries exist…

  • Had a pack of white coloured Lada AA 2450 batteries and tested it with my Liitokala charger, two of the batteries reaches 3000+mAh and two reached 2900 - 2950mAh.

    They're wildly underrated.

    • +6

More likely your LittoKala is wildly overrated

      • Your information is completely useless and totally irrelevant in this scenario, and moreover, I don't have that model.

    • How did you measure this?

      • On the Liitokala charger, you put it into Test mode which slowly discharges the battery to empty and then it recharges it to full, and reporting the mAh capacity it was able to charge the battery to.

        • +4

I have the Liitokala Lii-500, and using the test you described, it always gives a figure larger than the actual capacity.

The discharge-charge test you describe matches the "fast" test on the Lii-500. The figure it reports is how much energy the charger supplied in the charge phase of the test, but as some of that turns into heat during the charging process, it isn't the amount of energy stored in the battery.

The Lii-500 has a second test mode, the "NOR" test, which does a charge-discharge-charge cycle, and reports the energy of the discharge phase of the test. This is a lower figure than reported in the fast test, and is more accurate.

          • @Russ: Yes, this. The charge figure is almost meaningless. Focus on discharge.

…and if symptoms persist, see your doctor 😜

    • When you say 'tested' did you test it by charging or by discharging?

  • $5 collect from store while u can buy in store. Brilliant!

  • Any current deals on smart buy but not quick rechargeable battery chargers?

  • +2

It appears the AAA 900’s have been taken off the market. Does anyone have insight into this?

    • I was just going to ask what happened to the AAA 900mAh? I feel ripped off that I had to buy the 750mAh. :0

  • I got a handful of each. And the charger! Thanks, OP.

  • Added a bunch to my shopping cart yesterday, came back today to purchase and now it's showing the following for the AAs:
    "Not available for home delivery"

  • +1

Hmmm tempted but for $3 more I got no delivery fees and 4x AAA charging up to 1100mAh with Amazon instead of 750mAh with IKEA…
    https://www.amazon.com.au/EBL-1100mAh-Capacity-Rechargeable-…

So 8x AAA @750mAh = $21 on Ikea with delivery
or 8x AAA @1100mAh $22 on Amazon with delivery

  • Are the IKEA stenkol or tjugo chargers any good?

  • Which AAs are better for long usage/ low power consumption?
    The 1900mAh AA?

  • Does anyone else have issues with delivery? Something about it only being available in large quantities. Don't know what's going on

  • Why people buy 1900 if there is 2450mah ?

    • -1

      because it's $2 cheaper? :)

      • +2

1900 mah one has more cycles and is believed to be more stable and durable over long term.1900 mah battery may still be usable 10 years from now.

However i see that 1900 mah ladda only has 1000 cycles vs 2540mah ladda 500 cycles.

Eneloop 1900 mah has 2100 cycles vs 500 cycles eneloop 2450 mah

  • Could someone please tell if these Laddas can be bought using $10 voucher with $50 spend
    New Ikea user signup

and that voucher can be used instore too ? or online only ?

    Thanks

    • yes i did this 6 days ago - just got the package today

      • you mean you used it online?

Any idea then if the voucher can be used instore too ?

        • +1

I didn't try In Store - i used online - I bought 5 packs of AA 2450 and the charger for $10 and it charged me $6 for postage. So total was $76 than used the $10 sign up coupon to get it to $66.

  • Don't forget sign up and us the code to get $15 off: QREW1523xUW
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/763674

  • Can you use this in store ? Or it's only online ?

  • Post to SA metro is $5 for small packages, not bad.

  • How many charges do you get off these? I have some and they only lasted about a year now seem to drain super quick. I leave them on charge all the time, is that not a good idea, are you meant to take them off once they are charged?

    • These batteries should not be charging all the time.

      • Ah shit, maybe I stuffed them by doing that…

  • Are these batteries any good when compared to eneloops?

    • They are pretty much the same, but so much cheaper!

  • +4

FYI if anyone here is in the Penrith NSW Council, they rebate up to 50% of purchase price (max rebate is $50, so total purchase price $100) for rechargeable batteries and recharge dock.

I just put my claim through for $90 of LADDA batteries and $10 of the ikea charging unit and got approved the next day.

Link if you are interested. https://rebately.co/penrith/rebates/rechargeable-batteries/

  • I can't believe I'm saying this, but I have enough rechargeable batteries atm…

    ikr !

  • what were the old price for the 2450 x4?

    • They had a price drop at the start of 2023, and they've stayed at that price ever since. I bought some and put them on a long-term discharge test, which I started on 28 Feb 2023, and they lasted until 14 Feb 2024. I bought the batteries on 28 Feb 2023, at $12 for a 4-pack.

The discharge test was approximately 0.23mA continuous, so allowing for the self-discharge of the batteries, I expected about a year, and that's what I got. I didn't charge the batteries after I bought them, I just put them straight onto test, so they had been self-discharging for an indeterminate amount of time between manufacture and me purchasing them. The box the batteries came in has the batch code "2129", perhaps week 29 of 2021?

So I got approximately 1937mAh out of the batteries, an estimated 2.5 years after they had last been charged. That's 79% of the rated capacity, suggesting the self-discharge rate is under 10% per year.

    I miss the Eneloop deals

  • Anyone have a recommendation for LiOn AA/AAAs that can be charged in my normal charger (i have one those littokala ones, says it's compatible)? I don't really want the type that have a little USB charge port on them if possible.

  • Are AA 2450mAh NiMH?

    • Yes

  • I find the wrapping scratches off too easily on the Aldi batteries. But they are cheap. Also out of all my mix of batteries I have to throw away failed Aldi's more often than other brands.

  • Very worth it
Use the AA 2450 mah for xbox controller, and so many other things

  • Been using rechargeable batteries for nearly 15-16 years, eneloops maybe 11-12ish ?

I have as many as 30 on the go (mostly AA's - some AAA's).
The AAA's have been used in mini torches, wireless keyboard/mouse and tv remotes. In the case of the keyboard/mouse and tv remote I recharge them maybe once a year just as a top up, they've never gone "flat" and actually needed to be recharged.
I have a set of 4 in other remotes (Harmony remote and a stereo remote), 3-4 Xbox controllers and there's generally 6-8 ready as spares to replace the one's that do go flat and I can just replace them while putting the flat ones aside to recharge at a later date (as soon as I have 4 to charge, they'll go back on charge).

Oh I also have a Fenix Torch that requires 8 AA's (best torch ever!).

I've swapped out a few sets over the years, I guess I'll have to do it again soon…. the last time was around when COVID hit. But I haven't noticed a drop in the time that the batteries last and need charging.

  • Ohhh, +$29 delivery to Adelaide metro for 4 packs.. nope

    • Are you sure? I did 5 x 4 pack AAA and it cost me $5 to Adelaide CBD?
No brainer versus competing for car park at the Ikea, maneuvering the Ikea maze, just to get a few batteries!

  • Good smart charger for these under $50?

  • Annoyingly, Ikea won’t deliver AAAs. No idea why.
