Wasn't the 3 Pro like $70 last week? Soo sad I missed out, but not sure if I'm willing to pay triple.. :-/

    • -1

I wouldn't expect a price error like that to be repeated.

      • Was it? You're probably right though.. πŸ˜ͺ

        • +3

85% off…. yep. I'm bummed I missed out but I have an Ultra and it's excellent.

          • @Clear: What's the rough differences?

I hadn't heard of this watch until that last deal and would have pulled the trigger at that price to replace this first gen, Galaxy Watch 46mm I've used on and off for like, half a decade. πŸ˜…

            • +3

@WasBargain: Ultra has a few improvements. Gorilla glass, customisable background light and more brightness on the secondary FSTN display, MIL-STD-810G rated, a better and more flexible band, a barometer, updated health sensors for detecting more, e.g. irregular heart rhythm and software improvements.

              • @Clear: Thanks for that, sounds like some nice features! I'll have to look into these!

        • going off the comments for that one it was extremely low stocked. great deal for anyone that managed it though

    • do you have the link for this deal? curious to check even if it's not available now

  • is Pro3 Ultra a real upgrade on Pro3 or much of same same?

    • QoL upgrades

    • Check above comment.

No wear OS3. NO ECG, body composition. Samsung Galaxy 4 or 5 better option.

    • Wait, the new Galaxies can do an ECG? 😱

      • +4

A bit of a gimmick really. Don't expect it to be anywhere near as accurate as the real thing.

        • +2

Not gimmicky. I read a PubMed article. It can identify 90/100 Atrial Fibrillation

          • @takeshi: Looks like someone downvoted your comment for some reason.. πŸ˜…

If it's anywhere near a bit accurate, would be good for my dad who's had a heart attack and a 6-bypass..

      • +1

I could be wrong but you might want to look up if ECG works with all phones.
I think I read somewhere it only works if you have a Samsung phone.

        • Thanks for that, will look into that.

Luckily dad's already on the Sammy platform. πŸ˜… Note 9 and Tab S6 Lite, though I might run into a software issue because of age? Doubt it though.

But Samsung watches have pathetic 1 day battery life. These Tic watches easily last 3-4 days on a single charge. So depends what is important for you; gimmicky features or the longer battery life for daily use.

      • +1

Version 5 44mm can last 2 to 3 days easily

        • Well even Samsung doesn't claim that, so not sure how can it last 2 to 3 days. All reviews mentioned mediocre battery life.

      • "But Samsung watches have pathetic 1 day battery life. These Tic watches easily last 3-4 days on a single charge."

3-4 days is considered good??? My Garmin Venu SQ which cost me $132 manages to last 14 days until it hits 50% before I need to charge it.
I use it mainly for NFC pay, sleep tracking and GPS on rare occasions. I keep Activity tracking off because I don't need constant step counting and bluetooth off unless I need to sync it with the phone.
Yeah it's not the most "stylish" smart watch, but I just wanted something cheap with NFC pay.

        • TicWatch may also last 14 days if we keep Bluetooth and activity tracking off πŸ˜‚
But then this kills the whole purpose of having a smart watch at first place. Like people buy watches and mobiles with Always On feature, but never use it to save battery ☺️

          • @usmanhafeez2000:

TicWatch may also last 14 days if we keep Bluetooth and activity tracking off

No it doesn't in fact it barely manages the 4 days you mention. Not once have I heard from someone who had one that the battery lasts that long. I have had one in the past and was not happy (made me feel like an idiot for buying and turned me off smartwatches altogether). It also needs to be disclosed that the watch get's it's "maximum" battery life by switching between the "watch only" display mode and WearOS mode. That's one of it's standout features the dual layer display, and so it's basically similar to how I use my Garmin because when you switch it to watch mode it saves battery but all the "smarts" are not accessible in that mode.
Also wasn't particularly happy about it's overall quality as water got inside even with it's "Military spec" waterproof rating.
I considered the waterproof issue as a "once off fault" so I just sent it back and kept quiet about it. But honestly I don't think the price of the watch was worth it.

@harshbdmmaster718: I can easily get 7 days from my Ticwatch Pro 3 Ultra thanks to the secondary display. It uses the old school display as a screensaver automatically and goes to AMOLED when I unlock it.

              • @Clear: Yes but run it in smartwatch mode for 4 days, then it will run out and only show the time correct? So that's how I see it, it's 4 days as a smartwatch and then + 3 days until you need to charge it = 7 days max. That's what I found misleading about their battery life claims.

I am talking about the Ticwatch Pro 3 by the way, not the Ultra. I tried the Ticwatch Pro 2020 and from feedback it says the Pro 3 only lasts around an extra day on top of the 1 to 2 day battery life of the 2020.

                • @harshbdmmaster718: It's run in smartwatch mode the whole time. There's no switching of the modes manually so it'll go AMOLED for notifications.

                  • @Clear: I just looked at the Ultra specs. What I don't understand is the Ultra claims less battery life in smartwatch mode than the 2020. 2020 claims up to 5 days, while Ultra claims up to 72 hours (3 days) only. Both use AMOLED and dual layer display.
This tells me they probably over stated the 2020 battery life. And the Ultra sounds like it is similar to how the 2020 should have performed.

        • does that do wear OS?

          • @asa79: No not wearOS. That is the main issue with the TicWatch and other watches that use wearOS. Battery life is miserable, but TicWatch has the dual layer display so some users can achieve a bit more than 2 days.

        • Garmin site says "Battery life up to 6 days in smartwatch mode"

          • @asa79: I think that assumes you are using it for 1 hour+ GPS every day and getting like 50 notifications per day from your phone as well as some other estimate uses.
I don't use it that heavily just NFC pay and exercise tracking so I can get an average of 14 days until 50% battery left. If I go for a walk (track exercise) a bit more than usual I still get over 10 days until 50%.

I have to warn you about the GPS on the Venu SQ though. It seems like before buying I misunderstood how GPS works on watches, it is different to how it works "standalone" on a smartphone and I am not happy with the GPS function on Venu SQ. It requires you to update a file (CPE file) which provides data for the GPS satellites, but this expires every 6 days and needs to be updated either by syncing with Garmin phone app or Garmin Express PC software. But the CPE file does not update for me via phone app. Which is really annoying because I didn't expect to have to plug it into the computer every 6 days just to keep the GPS functioning. This is something that is necessary for all GPS watches, but Garmin messed something up with the Venu SQ and I can't update the file over bluetooth with the phone app.

      • battery is up to what your running on it, if you running gps etc then battery life will be greatly reduced

Great watch. Had mine almost a year. Still functions as an actual watch when the smarts run out of battery after 3 days.

  • Same prices on the Mobvoi website, if you prefer.

My E3 went into boot loop a few weeks ago (guessing moisture got into the lower button and is constantly triggering it), so thinking about a replacement.
But with new TicWatch and galaxy watches seemingly on the horizon, I'm trying to resist.

Obviously if I'd snagged one of the ~$70 ones that other week I'd have taken it though 🀣

Just dont go in the water, mine died after going in water.

    • -1

Same, the IP water rating on these ticwatches are fake, mum had two ticwatches died on her while washing her hands.

  • I bought a Ticwatch Pro 3 GPS a couple of months ago. My experience has been mixed. I have previously owned various Samsung watches but thought I'd give Ticwatch a go.

I like the battery life. I'm routinely getting four days or so after having disabled the GPS function. Prior to that, it was woeful.
I like the alarm function a lot. I have it on vibrate and it does a great job. The watch seems to have decided it will reboot at 0700, the same time it comes out of 'Do Not Disturb' mode. For some reason, it also reboots at 0648 on a Saturday morning. The buzzing has woken me up so I don't wear it on a Friday night if I want to get any sort of a sleep-in.

I am unable to access any of the watch functions such as Alarm or Calendar once the watch switches to Do Not Disturb. I have to reboot it then am able to access these functions, but it doesn't automatically go back into DND mode afterwards. I can't see the contents of text messages on the watchface, unlike on my previous Samsung watches.

Overall I like it but would probably go for a Samsung watch on special next time.

    • is that supposed to be normal rebooting daily?
