Thanks! I paid $7.22 for postage

Hope we don't need to use but good to have in kit

    Review from a customer:

Only issue is nothing to attach the bandage to itself once you bandage the site. Otherwise very happy with the product.

    • +9

I think the go these days is to tuck the end under, doing away with fiddly old school clips.
Once you practice once, you never go back.

    • +21

what's the point of checking review for this? you'll never see any complaint that it didn't work

      • Unless you are using it on somebody else or on something other than for Snake & Spider Bites.

FWIW full sized snake bite bandages are generally sold for $10 in most pharmacies. The markings on them to show when proper tension is applied is very common and snake bite specific bandages.

Furthermore I am pretty sure this is a much shorter one than whats normally sold for $10 - it quotes it's dimensions as 10cm x 2m (unstretched) - the very common $10 one I have quotes 10cm x 10.5m (stretched) - they normally double in length when stretched properly, so is 4m stretched vs 10.5m stretched.

No negative from me - but I'd pay a few dollars extra for the full size one at a pharmacy. Most snake bites are on legs and you have to wrap from the foot all the way up the entire limb to do properly - I suspect this 'free' bandage will not be easy to achieve that with.

    • +1

That's cheap at the pharmacies as this shorter one (2m) retails for $19.95

        Common Uses
This bandage is designed for use with all snake bites, funnel web spider bites, blue ringed octopus and cone shell stings

Never knew itโ€™s use is so common

      • +16

Also a version on Amazon for $8.95, at the longer length of 10cm x 10.5M

        • 15 dollars for me, donโ€™t have prime , used up all my free trials.

        • +4

Worth noting this is $8.25 via another seller on the same page

How big is the rolled up and packaged bandage? I'm thinking I should get one for the motorbike kit. But will not be able to fit something that is beach towel size.

      • +1

Size of a pack of cards. Very squishy for wedging into the corner of a first aid kit.

      • +2

I take them when hiking in snake prone areas.

They are about the size of a pair of socks rolled up.

Quite heavy for the size >100g each.

        • +2

There are also snakes in non prone areas.

          • +3

@CurlCurl: Snakes can only be prone because they don't have limbs.

            • @brockhenry: You got me there but, snakes can 'stand up' to a certain degree.

              • @CurlCurl: You never see a King Cobra do the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon?

                • +1

@WasBargain: King Cobras along with some other snakes can 'stand' about a third of their body length. Their average length is 10 to 12 feet meaning they can 'stand' to around 4 feet. That leaves 6 feet still on the ground.

                  • @CurlCurl: Damn, who else got that title of having 6 foot of snake, still on the ground?

      • I grabbed 2, one for the home kit and also the motorcycle kit. Should be able to squeeze it in most packs if they're not already overflowing.. ๐Ÿ˜…

    • +3

Sounds like the ozbargain thing to do is buy one of these, cut it in half and have 2 superior bandages!

  • A piece that you should always have but hopefully never use.

  • Very handy, always have at the back door.

    Thankssssss

      Snake Jazz

  • Be good to get one of the kits, but $80 seems a little steep. An old rag, a stake from the shed and a bit of cement, and she'll be right.

Had a copperhead in my backyard last night and was looking at snake gaiters but apparently snakes can just pass through and there was no sign of it today. Still grabbed one of these bandages; never know when you're gonna need it!

    • +1

If you see it again, stand still and dont move. They will just keep going doing their own thing.

      • Yeah I stared and it stared back then it went in the opposite direction.

    • That's why I have an extra long shovel on hand in the backyard ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • I'd recommend you go check the stats on bite victims - a very high % are adult males who are bitten attempting to remove or kill the snake.

I used to think you way but attended a Snake info lecture and had live demo of a wild snake vs tame one around humans - the former will avoid people at all costs.

I say this as someone who lives rural and I get them here all the time.

        • I see the every year on the farm. It's just for emergencies really. Like one year when my dog was attempting to attack a tiger snake.

        • A huge percentage of victims are also drunk when bitten.

    • +1

There are gaiters which are supposed to be snake proof, like the Clogger Snakesafe.

The only snake I wouldn't want to encounter while clomping along fire trails covered in leaf litter is the death adder cos it won't move and you could step on it. I used to wear heavy canvas gaiters with thick socks.

      • Yeah there's an American brand on Amazon that has rattlesnake graded ones for $80. A lot of the reviews are in spanish

  • +1

To save money I'm just going to order it on the day I get bitten by the wrong snake or spider.

    • Express post is NOT cheap!

      • +2

        In that case…I choose death!

        • sounds like 1 monkey that has never met a sea snake….

    • What if you are bitten by the right snake or spider?

      • Exactly. Was messing. Be my luck to get bitten by the right snake AND spider at once.

  • Hmm $8 for postage where I am unfortunately.

    • +1

$10.86 postage to bush block housing estate

I ordered an Amazon one, it's probably good 'cause they've got lots of snakes there. Hope it arrives before they get me.

    • So what you're saying is..

      Snake(s) may be included.

Or it may just arrived used, with an IOU?

Any snakes in the suburb of chatswood?

    • +2

Yes. Red Belly Blacks. They are also in Lane Cove, North Ryde, West Pymble, Lindfield, Roseville, Castle Cove, Wahroonga, Turramurra and all suburbs north. North Turramurra has Death Adders and South Turramurra has Eastern Browns. North Ryde has Red Belly Blacks and Browns. Most sandstone country on the north shore have Death Adders.

As an aside. There are a colony of Red Belly Blacks on the Bondi Beach headland Occasionally one will wander around into peoples back yard.

      • Are you a snake catcher / How do you know this information / Are there any Snakes in the Lidcombe area lmao.

        • +1

Yes I am. Well I was till i broke my hip this time last year. As for snakes in the Lidcombe area, never heard of any but, they can turn up anywhere. You do get escaped pet pythons anywhere in the Sydney basin. I've caught a red belly one street off the centre of Eastwood, Croydon and Dulwich Hill. Hunters Hill also has Red Belly Blacks. Parramatta Lake is a haven for Browns, Red Belly Blacks and Lace Monitors.

      • Yes, if you park your car near the M2 underpass (near Fontenoy Road, Macquarie Park),
you might come across one of these snakes too…

      • "North Turramurra has Death Adders and South Turramurra has Eastern Browns."
Sometimes they gather each to their side of the dividing line, taunting each other.

    • +1

heaps of snakes at work, but HR said technically they are colleagues and referring to them as snakes might be offensive โ€ฆ..will have one of these on my desk and when someone asks why , i will say โ€œ never know when you might meet a snakeโ€

Can this be used as tp in an emergency? Asking for a friend…

Best to not handle brown snakes in the first place

      • As there are 140 species of land snakes and 30 plus species of sea snakes in OZ it's best not to handle any snake unless you have the knowledge to identify it.

Brown snakes are not always brown.

        • Lets not be racist towards snakes based on their colour

A murder can be of any colour

  • Not a deal guys. Same stuff from Amazon for the same price except the delivery is much faster with Amazon and free returns.

  • Thanks, I had no idea these existed. I bought a long one off Amazon.

  • A red bellied black snake was slithering around the inside of Westfield Marion shopping centre in Adelaide for 3 days and they didn't shut down. ๐Ÿ™„

    • A gravid Red Belly found it's way into a shop store room in Westfield Parramatta and gave birth to around 12 babies. The mother was easy to find and catch. Finding all the 28cm babies was impossible.

      Red Bellies are pussycats.

      • @CurlCurl
Please upload some photos of you playing with a Red Belly just like you would play with an adorable kitten.
I know I'm not the only one here who is looking forward to seeing them.

Putting a video together of me cutting a Red Belly out of netting that some people put over their the veggie garden to stop birds from eating them.
