Prefer the S3 but this still seems cheap for a high end phone.

    $513.01 after coupon code: KGNCOOP1 ($4.99 Saving)

    • What is the coupon code for? I tried on another phone like the Galaxy Nexus and nothing was deducted from the total price..

      • I realised the 1% discount offer has already ended..

Good price for the One X. I like this phone better than GS3.

    • why is that? (I'll b soon in the market for a new phone)

  • +1

Hmm, getting close to my price. Think i'm going to go with the One X, purely for Sense over Touchwiz. Wish they'd start stocking the HTC One S as well, so I can order both at once.

    • -2

What's "Sense" and "Touchwiz"? I assume its got something to do with Android 4?
      Sorry, I'm stuck on Android 2.3 :( (Xperia x10)

      • No need to assume anything when you have google :)

      • Put simply, Sense and Touchwiz are manufacturer 'skins' for Android.

    • +1

Have you checked out the latest Touchwiz on the S3? A lot of reviewers are favouring that now against the Sense UI.

And let's not forget that you get removable battery and expandable storage up to 64 GB more for the S3.

      • You have to pay a fair bit extra for these privileges, as well as the cost of the 64GB card. A 32GB S3 (not fair to compare prices of 16GB S3 vs 32GB HTC) costs about $130-150 more when on sale (not counting that deal that went OOS in less than a day), then throw in another $80 or so for a class 10 64GB card, and you work out if you really need it for that extra cost.

Want a second battery? That will cost extra too. For me, removable battery is an irrelevant feature since my phone's battery comfortably lasts me the whole day. You may be different though, so again, it depends whether you need these features or not.

The pentile screen is not that good IMO.

        • +2

Pentile has gotten a lot of bad rep from Galaxy S. But for a 720p, it's not noticeable. But the vividness and deep contrast are still there and makes everything looks nice and crisp.

Instead of comparing a 32 GB S3 that further allows you to expand the memory, why not just consider getting a 16 GB S3 and add a $30+ SanDisk 16 GB microSD? You don't need Class 10 for a phone. And that end result is still the same as a 32 GB One X.

The option for a removal battery could be if you want your phone to last for days. You might not need it, but at least there is an option which is good right?

        • I presume that people who buy large SD cards like 64GB are going to be making big transfers to the card (of movies and whatnot). It's nice to have those transfers not take forever.

Your suggestion of getting 16+16GB is a fair point. There's still a premium on the S3 itself though.

For battery, I'm just not sure it's practical to carry around a spare battery everywhere you go, and charge two batteries each night. I presume you can't charge your spare battery without it being inside the phone? So you would need to get home, charge the battery that's already in the phone, then take it out and charge the second battery. And do this every night. Sounds like a bit of a fuss. It would be easier to just control your usage, charge at work if possible (if you have a desk job it should be easy) and make your single battery last you.

By the way, you can buy external batteries for the One X. For about $20 on ebay, you get a case that the One X connects to with a battery of the same capacity as the internal one. You can even get ones with double the capacity. This would actually be more convenient than opening the phone and swapping it out.

          http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_nkw=external+battery+case…

Or you can get a USB battery pack which is much cheaper but looks like crap.

        • Personally I prefer a swappable battery. I have a spare battery for my S2 and that has been very handy at times. Having a spare, means that you use it in situation you can't control, so it's not really about controlling your usage, charging when you can, basically the spare battery is like your spare wheel in your car. You just swap and go, no need to wait. For charging the spare, ebay batteries usually comes with a separate battery charger for minimum extra cost, so your scenario ain't what I do… I've been in many occasions where iphone users wished they had a spare swappable battery like my S2.

        • It's a lot easier if you just buy a case from the ebay link and plug it in. No need to even open it and swap.

        • The good thing of being able to swap batteries is that if you don't mind the thickness, you can actually use an extended battery with twice the capacity and it'll last you for 2 days or more.

Having an extra battery that's fully charged is like what assailantsky described as, a spare tyre. If you're out at some function or on the road where it's difficult or impossible to find a power source, you can just change to an extra battery and just continue doing what you're doing (imagine having two extended batteries O.O!).

Using the external power pack to charge the phone via USB like you said will be the only option for the One X. But the cons are charging over the USB like that is much slower and if you need to move around, it'll be troublesome to always carry the phone and the connected battery pack on your hands rather than just put the phone into your pocket and do what you have to do.

        • Ok I forgot and didn't realise about the case with extended battery pack that you're talking about. With that you can move around. And that is convenient too. So in the end it's just up to how you want your phone battery life to be.

        • And about the SD card, if someone wants to have 64 GB and having a higher speed class makes a different then you can just pop the card out and transfer files. Having a non removable internal storage means if the transfer speed of the phone via USB is slow, then you'll end up having to wait. And that's what makes a removable storage a better feature for giving you the options.

        • I understand that there are pros that the S3 has over the One X, including removable battery and SD support. All I'm saying is those features cost a considerable premium, and whether those added features are worth the extra cost is down to the individual.

In my case, would I like to have SD support? Very much. For an extra $150 though? No. I'd rather save the $150 odd and manage my usage tighter. The internal is enough for me because I make it work. My previous phone did not have internal storage and the maximum card size was 32GB, so the same as my One X.

If the S3 32GB was the same price as the One X, this would be a no brainer. The removable battery and SD slot would be included without extra cost. As it is, I'm not willing to pay the extra for those features, because while I think they are great to have, they don't justify the extra the phone will cost.
