Reviews don't seem to be great, it seems to break after light use.

    • +7

      I take it you're going to…bypass…this deal?

  • +6

    Reviews are not glowing:

    • broken after cutting one thin twig

    • The handle snapped off after cutting a few rose branches.

    • Handle broken on first use cut of a 5mm branch

    • Only a few dollars but not even worth that

    • Yeah they look just like a pair I had that did the same thing (including the colour). I think I got them in a few bonus items that came with a Ryobi edger I bought years ago. I was cutting a stem and I think it was the lower handle just gave way so it was like I had tumbling pencils in my hand. I think the blade also slipped and cut my hand a little.

These are the cheap ones I got at super cheap for $2 with the larger sibling

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/758717

They're absolute trash, they broke within minutes.

The cost of fuel to go and get them isn't worth it if they were free.

So this isn't a deal imo.

    • +1

Sorry about that deal then XD

      • I've still got the larger shears and they're better than the secateurs. They were $5 for the pair and I didn't vote but has to when you said they were $2. Worth it as I was going to super cheap anyway, so thanks 👍

I feel bad as it's just pure landfill.

    • +1

lol, glad none were in stock near me

  • +11

I've bought these twice and, on both occasions, they broke within a few uses, straight through the metal.

Saxon should be made to pay for the wastage of this unfit-for-use product.

    • Are you cutting fences

      • Pruning bushes (e.g. blackberry) and bamboo shoots. The metal is just so thin and weak. I wouldn't even expect Kmart cutlery to snap like these did.

  • +1

Terrible quality from personal experience.. Avoid!

  • +2

We use this $10 one which seems to be a bit more durable:

Thanks OP, will stock up. I use these in my plant nursery. They will last a few weeks with everyday use before going blunt. Then they can be sharpened. Fine for pruning leaves and green stems, shaping smaller plants, making cuttings for propagation etc. Just don't expect to cut heavier branches or deadwood because the soft metal alloy handles will break. Eventually they will fall apart, but at this price, you are getting good value if used correctly. Certainly wouldn't spend $100 on a quality set. I've misplaced a few pairs over the years. Wouldn't trust myself with them. Ha.

    • More for you as you seem to be the most successful user

      • +1

Yep. These hit the sweet spot for my purposes. Fine for soft pruning, which we do a lot being a landscaping plant production nursery.

But for gardeners pruning established/mature plants, these are no good. Better off with a quality pair or medium/long handled loppers.

    $2.99 is normal price i thinks https://pricehipster.com/product/KtQ1bxeedX7nPLCqyOtRNg~HJ1K…

not even worth that given the bad reviews

    • Can confirm, but they went missing for a while due to Chinese supply line issues. Then they came back at a higher price for a time. Good to see the price and supply back to pre-pandemic levels.

  • +3

I've bought this one before. It's total crap. Bent and didn't cut anything after half a dozen clips. Then the closing latch bent and stopped holding it shut and the spring fell out.

Absolute garbage. Buy a better quality one.

bought this from bunnings last yeat sometime as a electric wire cutter (that's what bunnings stuff was doing!!!) , and it cuts wires and prune plants ok for me in the last days. not super high quality of course but it didn't show any signs of breaking for now…

I remembered buying it for under 10…. look how much it has gone up now..

Save a bit more and ok invest in fiskars

    • +1

Came to say this, worth the extra $. Yes you prob dont use pruning shears very often, but when you do I bet you give them a thrashing and cut things thicker than you are meant to. Fiskars will handle it.

    • +1

I've got heaps of Fiskars stuff and it's always tops, love everything especially the block splitters, axes, rakes etc.

  • +2

Just do yourself (and the environment) a favour and invest in Felco 2 straight up. Original and the best.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/felco-2-original-secateurs_p3358…

    • +1

Felco 7, 12 or 15 (different sizes of the same tool) with the rotating handle are nice to reduce fatigue for repeated cuts. Go for about $100 on sale on Amazon, or the Felco f8 (f2 with ergonomic handle/jaw shape) was on sale just recently for $70

    • any that are decent but arnt nearly $100?

      • +1

        Fiskars are decent for $20-30.

My pair of Aldi secateurs 2 for $10 held up well for 2-3 years until I bought a pair of Felco

  • I’d say once bitten, twice shy with Saxon stuff. Only I’ve bought about 6 different things over the years and they’ve all be returned broken.

    • -1

      Lol @ your username

  • Ok for cutting toenails. Hopeless for cutting branches.

  • +4

Given the reviews, both on Bunnings and on here, think the deal deserves a neg. Sorry OP, I don't do this very often

  • +1

Those are some truly awful reviews both here and on Bunnings. Especially the one showing that the cast aluminium is no thicker than 2-3 mm at the pivot

I agree with others here - go with Fiskars for pretty good, or Felco for top of the line.

We.abuse our Fiskars secateurs at work regularly, and though they get blunt they've never broken

  • +2

Poor quality of product. $2.99 it's the normal price I think.

    • Pay $2.99 for the privilege of disposing of more landfill. I propose they're worth $0. Supposedly an Australian company too! I bet the products aren't Australian though. Should be ashamed of themselves.

  • +1

Bunnings Saxon secateurs and variations of this and multi buys are total crap. Save yourself 2 trips, one to buy and one to refund, and just buy quality once.

  • For pruners everyone goes Felco F2.
    Usually around $70-$90.
    You're welcome.

Keep them maintained and they'll last 10 years.

    • They can be fully disassembled and every single part is replaceable

      • +4

But this Saxxon one disassembles itself.

      • Swiss made so it's very hard to compare. Saxon is Bunnings lowest grade brand. A hand shovel is $2 vs $14 with cyclone, friskars $12 Both break as easily.

    • Felco's will last a lot longer then 10 years if they're looked after, I recently replaced the cutting blades on a No.9 that's about 35 years old and a No.2 that's about 40 years old.

      • I say 10 years because most people here won't buy the sharpener - this is ozstingy. So the blades will chip over time. Sharpener is around $30

  • +2

Last pair I bought broke whilst removing them from the very basic packaging, never got a chance to use them.

  • This is perfect for occasion pruning job for a few trees.

  • +3

The handle snapped off when the checkout lady was trying to scan it, absolute rubbish

    • so did you buy another one?

      • +2

        Yes its a good price

  • Bought one like that, terrible quality, the worst I have ever owned.

  • -1

It's sad we even import landfill like this
