Nintendo's new 3DS XL is due to hit Australia on August 23rd, but you can purchase it now from Amazon.it for about $50 off the RRP.
The site currently has the red model for sale at EUR 188.22. Yesterday all colours were at this price, but the others seem to have bumped up today for some reason (probably due to lack of stock).
The advertised price includes tax, which doesn't apply to Australian buyers, making the price EUR 155.55, plus EUR 14.00 for shipping.
This is a total price of EUR 169.55, which is approximately AU $200.

UPDATE 29/6 It seems that all 3DS colours are now available at their original price, however the shipping cost seems to have increased for some reason. The purchase price minus tax is still EUR 155.55, but the shipping cost is now EUR 24 instead of EUR 14, making the total EUR 179.55. Maybe wait a day or two and see if it changes back?**

The European version of the 3DS XL is exactly the same as the Australian version (except the default language settings, which can be easily changed), and another bonus of this is that console will most likely arrive to you before the Australian release date, as the console was released in Europe yesterday.
One side note you should be aware of is that for some reason Nintendo has decided not to include power chargers with the European version (assuming most buyers already have a DS of some kind). An Australian charger for from a DSi, DSi XL, or 3DS will work with the 3DS XL, or you can pick up cheap chargers on eBay for about $5 if you don't have one already.

Here's hoping they don't raise the price on the red model too!

Man you are asking for trouble buying from Italy. That country has most incredibly dodgy postal system.

    • +4

Haha, well I got confirmation mine had been shipped today with Deutsche Post. Hopefully that's a sign of some German efficiency coming my way. :P

In my experience, buying from Italy is perfectly fine. Its selling and sending stuff there that could screw you over.

    • I've sometimes wondered why many international eBay sellers specifically exclude Italy from their sales.

      • Because customs are very restricted in Italy. And they charge for import GST for any value declared.

    • +1

      Please elaborate.

      • Mail has absolutely no guarantee of making it to its destination! Brother had an extremely important parcel go completely AWOL with no hope of tracking it down, after which we heard that this was not uncommon. But that was posting TO Italy, mail from Italy might stand a better chance for whatever reason

    • Have you ever actually been to Italy? Your comment is pretty "racist". As if our country's postal system is better.:-)

For anyone interested, the standard 3DS is also available for about $160, including postage.

This is a great deal. I've bought from German Amazon for the Vita deal a while back and while the box was a little squashed everything was perfectly fine. Probably same here as it is being shipped by German Post.

I'd be all over this if I didn't already own 2 3DS's. Before you judge me one is Aus and the other a US variant. Hate the region locking!

  • Only DSi, DSi XL and 3DS chargers will work. The original DS and DS Lite chargers won't work.

Thanks, I've changed the description to reflect that.

Just completed my order of the red model. My shipping was slightly more expensive making my total purchase EUR 172.86 (roughly AUD 203, so not much difference). I chose the cheapest shipping option to my address close to Melbourne, Victoria. Some notes about my purchase to those contemplating this:

    • They won't adjust the price to exclude tax until later in the process after you choose shipping address and payment options. I was a bit scared although my final payment details show the correct adjusted price.

    • Might want to use Google Translate or Chromium's translate page option as (obviously) the page is in Italian. Alternatively, you could get the US site up in another tab and use that as a reference as I found the page layouts were identical.

    • My estimated delivery date is between 16/08/2012 and 21/08/2012. Here's hoping that there's no postage mishaps.

Let me know if you have any further questions about my purchase. Thanks, mr_me450!

Amazon EU always overestimates its shipping date. Last time I bought from Amazon.de and it arrived in 4 days while the estimated date is 16 days later

As I stated in the description, the European and Australian consoles are exactly the same. Australia has always been part of the Europe region when it comes to games. Please don't neg something just because you don't understand it.

Ah I see I see my bad

  • mamma mia!

Went to purchase but my cart came to a total of 179.55 EURO (around $211). Shipping to Melbourne. Not sure what the go is?

    • Very strange. Shipping on Friday was EUR 14, and it was slightly higher for Poltak yesterday morning too. Now it seems to be up to EUR 24! Still much cheaper than the AU RRP, but I wonder why the shipping cost has been raised?

  • +1

I see them at 188 Euro right now. Which is like what? $220?

    • That price includes tax, so it is actually EUR 155.55 when you get to the complete order screen. They seem to have increased the shipping cost though. When I purchased it was EUR 14, and it's currently EUR 24, making a total of EUR 179.55.

  • Good thing about 3ds's u can use r4 cards and play gba, ds, dsi games etc.

  • Only for the diehards …… i will proabbaly wait for the Aussie models closer to christmas and wait for the deals

  • Just in case people didn't read my increasingly lengthy description, all colours are now showing up as being EUR 155.55 minus tax, however shipping seems to have increased from EUR 14 to EUR 24. Not sure what has prompted the increased but it may be worth waiting a couple of days to see if it falls again? In Australian dollars the current price, including shipping, is around $211, whereas before it was more like $200.

  • Does the Aussie one come with an AC adapter?

    • Yes, it will when it's released in late August for $249.

  • is it true 3ds's give headaches?

    • I have heard read that online. Personally I've never experienced it, nor have any of my friends.

    • +1

No it does not give headaches however it will take time for your eyes to adjust to the 3D.

      • Which is why it can cause headaches. You can always turn the 3D off.

  • This price will drop quickly, like the original.

I still haven't bought one but definitely want to in the next year or so.

  • bloody hell, does anything not get outdated in less than 6 months nowdays

  • +1

    Hmm, 179.55euro is about $210.

I personally would prefer to spend a bit more for the warranty. Peace of mind

  • Seems the price has risen to 188,22euro now.

    • That's the quoted price including VAT. As Australian buyers we don't pay the VAT. The total price including shipping is still EUR 179.55. Here's hoping they lower the shipping price back to what it was previously.

  • Maybe wait until it's Monday biz hours in IT.
(Showing $179.55 EUR, $24 EUR post)

  • The price of all colors has been changed already, it is EUR 189,04 now…
and the shipping fee is still EUR 24.

  • Total price including shipping is currently EUR 189.23. Even though this is still a good price, I'm marking the deal as expired, as the price has shifted to be well above what it was originally.

    • Actually the price is just EUR 180.23 including EUR 24 for shipping to AU.
It deducted around $211 from my credit card.
So it is still a very good price for Aussie.

  • Just received mine yesterday! It was the exact date Amazon.it had estimated (17/8). The console looks great and system transfer from my old 3DS was pretty simple, even though it took 20mins to complete. Definitely appreciating the larger screen real estate.
