  • There seems to be so many tool shops popping up - I wonder how they will all survive if there is an economic downturn especially when Bunnings is, sadly, so big and dominant.

    • Cause bunnings tool offerings have been quite basic - surprising I know but its only been in the rise of Sydney Tools that Bunnings has actually started implementing a proper tool shop set up offering more than just Makita, Ozito and the occasional Bosch. I don't think many of these shops will succeed now that Sydney Tools is about, who seems to have the most variety.

      • Also Makita run special Bunnings SKU on some products, so they get around the whole price beat. Margins on power tools are bugger all.

Missed out by a few months. They did a half price sale on Festool and Bessey. My mates cleaned out most the shop.

      They're my mates too

F%&cking Bunnings. Needs to be a limit on the amount and size of Bunnings in each state. Powerful monopolies are never good.

Bunnings isnt the competition with these guys, Total Tools & Sydney Tools are more there direct competition.
As these stores stock the entire tool range of your more tradesman brands Milwaukee, DeWalt, Hikoki etc.

When it comes to Power Tools bunnings only really has market control in the cheaper segments such as Ozito, Ryobi, Xu1.
Where these stores barely even try and bother to be in because there customer base is generally as i mentioned Tradesman who are buying tools worth 5x the cost.

Dunno why everyone thinks bunnings is to blame, they have never really had a comprehensive professional range of tools, they only just started offering them lately in response to Sydney Tools going off the scale in terms of growth.

  • I bought my first ever professional tools from this mob back in the day. A sad day for the small guys.

    • Just had a quick look at some of the things that i'm looking at purchasing and the RRP stated is about $10-$20 more than the other tool shops.

This also looks to be similar to an EB Games Sale lol - posters everywhere.

Can anyone confirm what type of discount is offered in store? Is it worth a drive into the CBD?

Strangely there is no mention of this sale or "closing down" on Facebook or their own website.
They are a pretty popular store, when i worked in South Melbourne id generally buy from them during my lunch break and got great deals.

    • I used to live near here, there are a number of apartment developments in the area and I'd guess the site will be used for that. Lots of construction so lots of tradies.

      • Typical short-sighted thinking - develop the site into apartments, but then you don't have a tool shop nearby to get the stuff you need to get the jobs done! Catch-22!

Swung by this place today and I wouldn't bother. It's been picked clean pretty thoroughly.

Only things left are hole saws, drill bits and odds and ends. No power tools really.

Did manage to get a Makita brushless hammer drill, charger and 2x 4Ah batteries for $400 delivered last week, so it's not a complete loss.
