The following three Toshiba TVs are pretty cheap considering the quality and size:

Toshiba 40TL868G 102cm - $534 delivered from Amazon Germany - http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B005K8LALA/ref=ox_sc_act_tit…

Toshiba 40TL963G 101.6cm - $640 delivered from Amazon Germany - http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B007FMOOKI/ref=ox_sc_act_tit…

Toshiba 46TL933G 116.8cm - $737 delivered - http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B007FMOPQQ/ref=noref?ie=UTF8… (credit to ironpaw for that)

They both have the following features:

  • 3D-LED-Backlight-TV (40 Inch)/16:9
  • Resolution 1920 x 1080 Pixel (Full HD) / 3D in Full HD thanks to Active Shutter Technology
  • 200 Hz AMR
  • Reception: Analogue, DVB-T, DVB-C, DVB-C HD (H.264), DVB-S/S2, CI+, Hbb TV
  • Ports: 4 x HDMI, 1 x Scart, 2 x USB, LAN, composite input
  • stand, remote control, manual

The 963 is silver and is WLAN ready (dongle required) and the 868 is black. Apart from the colour, the WIFI, and the fact that the 963 is probably a newer model and user anput 25% less electricity (better energy rating) I cannot see much difference between the two, so please do not ask me. The 46 inch TV (46TL933G) does not have a DVB-S tuner!

ATTENTION:

IF YOU BUY THE 963 or the 933 one pair of 3D glasses is free! To get it scroll down to a bit stating "Hinweise und Aktionen" and then click on "Beides in den Einkaufswagen". Then go through the normal procedure. One step before confirmation you should see the price where it should say "promotion applied". This deal with the glasses might only be valid until the end of 31 July 2012 (in Germany) - this BONUS (free pair of glasses) has now EXPIRED. TVs are still available of course

If you want to know more, please use Google and Chrome when visiting the sites to translate them to English.

I can only put one link in the URL for the picture - I put both links above. So please do not come at me or neg me because of that. Keep in mind that all the people posting are just trying to help you score a bargain and invest their time to do that and so you do not have to.

Yes, partly but the price is different now plus there are two more TVs on offer which are very cheap. Instead of wasting time looking whether something has been posted before at a different price (which is useless as the price cannot be obtained anymore) would it not make more sense to just be happy that those deals are brought to everybody's attention? Just wondering??!

      • I didn't downvote you, but theres a wealth of knowledge in the link i posted that will help everyone out. Also the 46" would appeal to more people (I dont think that was able to be shipped a week ago) - I'd change the deal to reflect that IMO because its a different product and mention the other TVs as an alternative. :)

        • +2

I understand but now there are three different TVs available through this post which I think is good. Also, I was asked by the moderators to include deals from the same category in one post if possible. I think and hope now everyone is happy as people can get a really good deal.
And if people are not nasty and insulting I am always willing to help out (time permitting) when something is unclear as I read German fluently and also know the local law there in case there is a problem.

I just bought the Toshiba 46TL933G for $737 delivered.

I'm pretty sure the difference between the 963G and 933G is lack of DVT-S support - satellite TV - which you can't get unless you pay for access anyway.

All I did was use the two drop down boxes - choose your size (40"/46") then choose "ohne dvb-s" and you'll be given the 933G model with lower pricing.

    40" 933G delivered is ~570 AUD
    46" 933G delivered is ~740 AUD

    • Great good job. Do you want me to put it in the post as a separate link?

      • Don't care, as long as people can see it I don't mind…

        • Done!

        • +1

I hope you did get your free pair of glasses. If not, it might be worthwhile contacting Amazon or cancelling and then ordering again.

        • +1

          no i didn't…ARRGH!!!

OK I managed to cancel the order and reordered…

Sometimes I wish I studied harder in my year 7/8 German class…lol

          ich bin ein dummkopf!

        • +1 for using "dummkopf" :)

    • any 3d glasses included?

      edit: No there are none.

      • As far as I can tell one pair of glasses is included if you buy the 963 or 933. I will just quickly check and then update the post!

        • interesting, I was reading the review (google translate) underneath it and it's saying, no 3D glasses included…

        • I just tried it and it worked.

        • +1

The people reviewing bought at different dates and at varying prices - so when they bought it the deal might no thave been on.
If I was you I would always rely on the company description, not the reviews when it comes to what is included. In Germany retailers can and will be held to what they stated they offer.

    • Good spot

  • Has anyone received their already purchased tv? How long does it take to arrive?

    • Check the other Toshiba TV thread. Takes on avg 8-10 days for delivery.

    • it took me less than a week. i bought the 40" tv and happy with it

      • Any ideas re digital channels? I can't get any with the scan?

  • It should not be too long. DHL is normally pretty efficient and fast. In my experience if there is any holdup it is in OZ caused by customs. But I have received 20kg boxes from germany before within 7 days. So you should get your TV pretty fast.

  • No, no, no, no, no. Why does everyone post such amazing deals from amazon.de :(
Is there any way of purchasing local warranty?

    • +3

I let you in on two "secrets":

      1. The length of warranty as prescribed by law in Germany is 2 years!

      2. Amazon will refund you for postage should you have to send anything back within that warranty period (see other threads).

Also, if you have a credit card that should protect you in some cases. Furthermore, there might be companies that offer stand-alone insurance for electronics - just google it. There should be companies offering this - those are the same insurance policies that HN, JB Hi-fi etc. sell you when you buy something there the only difference being that they get kickbacks from the insurance company for selling the policy.

Isn't delivery 40 euro to Australia?
    492 euro + 40 euro delivery is not $570, its AU$618.50

    • every time someone posts this

Thats the price before tax is removed.

      • Well if people put it in the description we'd all know wouldn't we.

        • +5

I did put the total price in there - it states "$xxx delivered!" What more can you want?

        • You posted saying the price was wrong.. thats much worse than not spelling it out in the description.

        • +2

I guess they want their hand held :) As you seem to be the guru of posting amazon deals, maybe a simple statement on all your posts that say "don't be alarmed if you get a higher price in your cart, X% VAT gets taken off when you go further into the order process"

This should keep all the complainers at bay!

  • These TV support 1:1 mapping? Intend to connect it to a PC.

    • It has a Games and PC picture mode, so the assumption is that 1:1 is available. Text looks sharp from my PS3.

  • +1

If you just put in, "$xxx after vat is removed", then there wouldnt be any misunderstandings.
It only takes 5 seconds. Im at work, its not like i can read back through half an hour of other threads.
That said, Ill be looking at the 40" Toshiba. Its a good deal when all you can get here for that money at this size is a Soniq.

    • it worked.

    • Thats too awesome!

  • No SBS is the killer for me, what will I do when the TDF comes around again!

    • Is it confirmed that SBS doesn't work?
I remember reading someone couldn't get it last time the cheapest Toshiba was posted…

      • Do the other brands receive SBS?

    • +1

That's right. I have a 933G with DVB-T. Europe uses 8Mhz for UHF while we use 7Mhz. SBS and 44 won't work at all with the Toshiba tuners. I will have a separate HDD based PVR anyway so I can always use the tuner in that anyway.

There is no way to get Toshiba Europe TVs to tune 7Mhz UHF as far as I can see.

      • Hey Cluster, any chance you have the box dimensions? I mistakenly put in my work address so I hope it'll fit in the back of my wagon…

        • 121 x 70 x 16cm. It shouldn't be a problem for most cars. Flat panel TVs should be kept upright at all times. 25kg.

      • thanks for the info - any idea if this is the same for all Euro Tv's such as LG or Sony?

        • +1

If that particular model is only sold in Europe then I would say yes, the UHF tuning problem would be there. Australia is one of few DVB-T countries that uses 7Mhz channels in UHF. When the world converted to digital TV even more incompatible standards than before spawned. Sigh.

      • Hi Cluster, Do you think this is a firmware issue or actually a hardware limitation. If it is firmware that limits the reception then do you think we can load the firmware for the Australian model to this TV to allow it to decode the 7Mhz channels?

  • upright at all times? oh crap…

    • Place the TV across the back seat into the foot well.

      • nevermind, cancelled order again and reordered to my home addy. LOL

  • Are these the razer design like the top of the range Samsung? What's the equivalent au model so I can check it out. PS loving these cheap amazon os TVs

    • There's no equivalent Australian models as far as I can see on Toshiba's website.

      • +1

It's not on their main webpage yet but if you check the news releases, they have announced the new 2012 line up. In Oz, the model is known as the XXTL900A. The 46" has a RRP of $1,539.

        • +1

Ha we get so screwed in Australia!

    • +1

Often models are identical but given different names and/or model numbers on request by retailers - this is how the can promise price-match while avoiding to be taken up on it as it is not the exact same item!

  • Succumbed :(, 46'

    • +1

me too, i was kinda on the hunt to get a new TV and a 46" LED 3D cant go wrong….

  • Does anyone know if it is free shipping worldwide? I want to purchase it for someone in Turkey and that is much closer to germany so if the stock is from germany? will it take less time as I dont want it to not arrive or arrive damage as they are a bit old they wont know what do, so do you reccomend it is safe (shipping wise) ?

    • +1

Shipping is DHL so it should be safe and fine. Shipping is not free but should be the same and is already included in the price above. However, you have to actually try and use an address in Turkey to find out whether or not Amazon Germany will send it to Turkey. Also check import limits for Turkey otherwise import tax/customs is payable!

  • Does any active 3d glasses work with it or it has to be Toshiba FPTAG02G being supplied with these tvs?

    • Probably all glasses using the same techology work.

  • Does anyone know if the following tv is any better ? I am still using a crt tv and know nuts about the new tvs.

    http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B007W0T20A/ref=noref?ie=UTF8…

    • +1

That is an academic discussion as Amazon Germany will not send it to you. No discussion there!

  • Will anyone be purchasing the 46-inch? If you wouldn't, why not? And also could some be so kind to tell me if in australia we need the DVB-S tuner as the post says the 46inch doesnt have one!! thanks

    • I have the 46". DVB-S tuner not needed as we only use DVB-T. The Toshiba TVs are unable to receive UHF digital channels in Australia, meaning no SBS. Use a PVR or other external tuner.

    • yep bought one today. lets see how it turns out.

  • I want to wall mount the TV using a low profile frame. The zoom in on amazon of the bottom of the TV slows it bending back, so I couldn't be flush with the wall. Has anyone seen one in the flesh to confirm this? It's a deal breaker if it all can't be mounted close to the wall. Cheers!

  • I purchased the 868G and it took 5 business days to deliver to Brisbane. Currently watching Wall-E on Blu-Ray and for a $500 TV, its just amazing. Well worth the money, I'd definitely say it was a bargain!

Time to find some cheap 3D glasses :P can't comment on that sorry :(

It looks better/the same as the TV's i saw in JB and HN for 3 times it's price!

The power cord seems to be attached to the TV so I just use a cheap universal plug converter and that does the job. Im sure you could split it and rewire it yourself.

    • The only complaint I could have about the display is slightly uneven backlighting when a pure black display is visible. As this happens very rarely (anything bright on screen completely hides the effect), I'm still very satisfied.

      • Does the 'tail' at the back of the TV prevent low profile wall mounting?

        • +1

The power cord doesn't stick out at all. It's pretty much flush with the case. I haven't used a wall mount system before. The speakers at the bottom of the TV stick out a little bit, so the entire back of the TV isn't completely flat. I expect mounting systems themselves add enough width to compensate for this however. Not sure about a low profile mounting however.

        • Cool. Thanks for the reply.. How much further do the speakers stick out from the back of the rest of the TV?

          Thanks heaps :)

        • +1

          About 2cm

  • What Hz is the 46", surely its not 50?

    • +1

Toshiba claims 200Hz, but I have to say it's not as smooth as some 100Hz TVs I've seen. This is both good and bad. Good in that it doesn't give a 'sitcom' look to movies, bad in that if someone wants ultra smooth video this TV isn't for them.

Active Vision is set to 'High' here and there's still a bit of visible judder. No artifacting however. My 6th gen Samsung LCD can sometimes produce subtitle tearing and 'floating' objects in the background.

      • nice, thanks!

  • Another question, anyone been able to find a toshiba wifi dongle that will work with the 46"?

    • only toshiba WLM-20U2 working with this TV, and so expensive everywhere except amazon.de

    • I guess it's a personal choice but I would like to wire it up instead of WIFI, if planning to pull some media through DLNA.

    • you can always purchase a forwarder which is available at less than $50 at various computer stores. I bought mine from MSY 2 months ago for $45

    • you can always purchase a repeater which is available at less than $50 at various computer stores. I bought mine from MSY 2 months ago for $45

  • Could anyone help me to find the original figures of service menu on your toshiba 46" TV (TL963 or TL933)? I occasionally got the service menu, and then those figures have been accidentally changed. I do not even know what it was, inlcluding RCUT, GCUT, BCUT, RDRV, GDRV, BDRV, OSD, and so on.

    Appreciate your help.
    Many Thanks,

  • Question: Do TVs like the 46TL933G actually have AMR 200? I have Active Vision available in the menus and notice the same amount of judder in the display whether on off, standard, or high. It only seems to reduce the amount of LCD smearing and nothing about the judder.

I have sent off an email to Toshiba Germany for an answer.

  • It appears the TV does have AMR200, but it for some reason doesn't have an impact on many free to air TV shows. Only USB/HDMI content.

It does smooth out very nicely this video: http://vimeo.com/38590515

  • Should I buy the Toshiba 40TL868G?

Need a TV, is there anything better for the price?

  • +1
    • for you but the lack of SBS killed the deal for me. It is too messy to maintain another PVR.
  • Ok so I bought the TV, got a confirmation email etc. though my credit card hasn't been charged?!

Also, how do I easily track the shipping?

  • just got a 46TL933G but damn.. missed the deal on the glasses :-(

and good luck finding an LG that they ship to Australia, apart from the sold out one ppl have mentioned before I haven't been able to get any LG to get past the shipping address stage without amazon.de saying they won't ship that to my address.

    • Could you help me to find the original figures of service menu on your toshiba 46" TV (TL963 or TL933)? I would like to change them back to original status,

      Appreciate your help.
      Many Thanks,

      • sure, i'll take a look when it arrives and let you know.

        • In addition to, not normal menu, I need the original figures of service menu, please let me know if you do not know how to get service menu.

          Thanks,

  • They do not ship LG and Samsung as those companies have prohibited Amazon from doing so except for very few products (and TVs do not seem to be among those few permitted).

    • Bugger. Samsung seem to be the only cheap tv that has PVR built in.

  • Amazing delivery, bought the TV on Monday, and received it today at 10am. Incredible service from UPS! 4 days from Germany to Melbourne :)

    • That's great. Hopefully this encourages the skeptics to be a little less skeptic and get in on the deals.

  • I've been doing some reading of German reviews translated into English and although the translations aren't the best, people seem to complain of sluggish or slow "software" performance on the 40TL868G.

Can anyone with the 40TL868G give us a quick review, say on things like how long it takes to change a channel, what digital file formats (i.e. avi, mkv) the TV will play through USB, how long they take to buffer, how well they play etc?

Are there any niggling software issues that you have discovered? I realize these are bargain basement prices but I'd rather spend extra on something else if I'm going to be annoyed by it every time i turn it on.

  • no more shipping, at least to my address in WA.
