Purchased 1208 for my hospital. Cheers

  • It comes pre-wired with a power plug and a 1.5-metre lead for easy installation.

These lights are often used in standard 120cm by 30cm ceiling lighting grids

    • Those dimensions don't equate?! You mean a 600x600mm ceiling grid or at least 1200x600mm with a partial ceiling tile in place?

Either way these can't be flush mounted to a fixed ceiling.

      • Either way these can't be flush mounted to a fixed ceiling.

They make recessed mount kits to flush-mount them to a fixed ceiling.

        • Interesting find, I wonder how you'd go if your ceiling joists are exactly 600 apart

          • @DannyBoy: They actually don't have to be. You cut a 612x612 hole in your ceiling in between the joists, the frame clamps to the plaster ceiling, and you drop the light in.

@eug: If your joists are only 600mm apart then you won't be able to cut a 612mm hole between them… 12mm of joist is in the way 😁

              • @Nom: Yup. They also make surface-mount kits for those situations.

                • @eug: Sounds like it would be easier to just buy a version designed for surface mounting, no way would I be cutting a great be holes in my garage for these but I wouldn't mind the idea of having a similar style that can be surfaced mounted

                  • +1

@DannyBoy: The surface mount kit just requires a few screws to screw the frame to your ceiling. You then slide the light into the frame. No large holes needed, apart from the hole for the power cable which has to be there anyway. You could literally just screw the frame around the hole where a downlight used to be and slide it right in.

The cost of the surface/flush mount kits makes it a very expensive affair though. You could just buy batten-style lights, the same ebay store has some really well-priced ones.

                    • @eug: That was my thoughts to regarding the price. I did see there previous deals for the batten style but I was after something a bit different without going crazy like the hexagon lighting setup 🤣

@DannyBoy: Ohh right. Yeah I really like panels, lighting is a lot more even compared to point sources like downlights. Shadows are lot softer.
I have a 1200x300 panel hanging lower over my workbench for nice even lighting. I just use a suspension kit for that.

Are these not to be branded Osram? Where is the branding or this a knock off?

    • +1

Osram is just a brand name. The actual parent company is called Ledvance

    • Are these not to be branded Osram? Where is the branding or this a knock off?

Osram carved out their their consumer lighting division, named it LEDVANCE, and sold it to a Chinese consortium in 2016.

  • Just in time for my basement underneath Gotham city's river
