    Will buy for the laughs

  • Does tanami road have anything to do with tanami mine?

    • +1

Public road links Halls Creek to Alice Springs. Mines/Explorers are nearby I believe.

    • +2

Yeh, the Tanami Newmont/Granites mine is half way along the road… Big bonus, the mine has Telstra reception :D There's something very cool about camping in the middle of a desert with good internet access :p

Will it work with my Mate sim? Otherwise I'll just stare at my screen on the $15 6mth Telstra sim deal with 300mb ☹️

        • +1

It looks like mate uses Telstra so it should be fine, a lot of the mines have Optus also… When I'm on the road I use the cheap discounted Boost/Telstra sims, even without the cash rewards (which make them free) they're good value…

          • @FLICKIT: Balgo still being closed is a bit disappointing, and affects fuel requirements, but looking forward to it regardless.

            • +1

@JamesLucas: Billiluna isn't far up the road, I assume they would still be dishing out fuel… If you can stretch the extra 100km range fill up at Tilmouth Well and skip Yeundumu,…Yeundumu is the only community I've ever felt unsafe in…

      • Interesting. I am literally writing a report for that mine at the moment.

I'd be worried that this looks like a meal to bird, bear etc

    • +1

      Drop Bears ? :o

    • +4

      We have bears now?

      • +5

Climate change. Cocaine fueled grizzly bears have been seen as far south as Newcastle.

        • There are predilections for everything, it would seem.

    *Ana corn da

  • r value of 2.3 only makes this suitable for summer?

  • +4

First thought: That's an expensive piece of corn!
Second thought upon going to website: that's still an expensive piece of corn!

    • Haha

5.5cm thickness.. may as well just sleep on the floor. Would need to be rock hard to avoid feeling the floor.

    • +2

I got one, it works ok.

      • Side sleeping ok?

        • +1

Dont recall trying on the side, but i decided to keep it.

        • +1

You're not side sleeping on 5cm anything any not having pressure points

I cant comment on this mat but… A lot of the modern mats are surprisingly good.. The last couple of years I've been using a discontinued S2S mat that's only 50mm thick, I inflate it as hard as I can and it's fine for side sleeping… (this S2S one inflates from both sides and it has quite small cells, so I assume that's what makes it so good)

      https://www.adventurebase.com.au/sea-to-summit-comfort-plus-…

I'd rate it higher than my Exped DownMat 7 which is 70mm thick and contains down, I just cant get that mat hard enough to be comfortable for good side sleeping…

      • +1

That's interesting, I have Exped downmat and it's good, just not as good as my Exped Megamat…
The 50mm S2S being better is very surprising, but don't doubt you at all.

My downmat has the inbuilt hand pump and same, it always seems to be under inflated

        • The Exped Downmat is a good mat, I used it for years, awesome in real cold weather… The issue is the big tubes, you cant get it all that hard, on big multiday hiking or motorbike trips I was getting a lot of hip joint pain at night due to my hip/pelvis sinking into the mat, on a harder mat my body is more aligned and I dont get the hip pain.. (as a side sleeper)

On rough ground I tended to feel more of the ground through the soft Exped than I do through the rock-hard S2S…

We're all so different and sleeping mat experiences are very different from person to person, there's no "one size fits all" solution…

I literally thought they were corn on the cobs for $50

I bought the $39 version of this from Kmart. Can’t believe how good it is. Very comfortable small and quick to inflate. Seems to defy physics.

Currently $90 on Mountain Designs own site.

Which is sort of weird, considering that Mountain Designs is basically Anaconda: since 2018 it's been wholly owned by Spotlight Retail Group, which is (surprise, surprise) Spotlight, Anaconda, Mountain Designs, and Harris Scarfe.

    • And Mountain Designs is online only so they are all being boxed and shipped from the same location I assume.

      • Anaconda shops stock Mountain Designs gear

  • I bought this cos it was light and cheap but after using it for a multi day trip it got a hole in it! Patched it up but next hiking trip and yep another hole! Just a warning its very prone to punctures. Got the sea to summit comfort plus instead, bulkier and heavier but much tougher
