AirAsia Sale: SYD/MEL-Kuala Lumpur $269, Bangkok $239, AKL to SYD $199 and Many More @ AirAsia

121

Within Malaysia, domestic fares are also on sale to many destinations from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi, Penang, Johor Bahru and more for under $10.

AirAsia is a low cost airline, but in my opinion has the best onboard food :D Their Nasi Goreng rules!

If planning a lot of travel, also check out their unlimited pass.

Yes, different deal but might be worth considering. I'll add it in.

      • More the feedback and experiences with the airline….

Just dont put yourself through the stress of getting rescheduled then finally cancelled within 12 hours of the flight with no alternative offered. Then countless calls to Air Asia in Indonesia as the office here wouldnt deal with the refund. Maybe thats changed now. Emails are all no reply and have to fill out webform again and wait 2 weeks for reply. In the end Air Asia would not budge from their "unforseen circumstances". Even an office letter from their "legal" department with the same reason. Unfortunately no travel insurance will cover you for "unforseen circumstances". So the one way flight that I had to book at the last minute with another airline costing me $1000 from Bali was not covered by travel insurance.

@Sammyboy: Yep. Wouldn't go near airasia again after my experience last month.

Tried to book return flights to Indonesia via Airasia. Next morning had an email saying:

"We've charged the amount of your booking.
Your booking is taking longer than usual to confirm. We'lll send you the travel itinerary with the airline's booking number once it's confirmed within 24 hours.
If we can't confirm your booking, we'll refund the full amount that was charged to your original payment method."

            Later that morning another email:

" We’re sorry, your booking is unsuccessful.
We’ll refund the full amount that was charged to your original payment method. This will take up to 7 working days."

            And then another email:

"Hooray! We are glad to inform you that your refund application request for your flight from Melbourne - Tullamarine to Surabaya is successful. We will let you know your refund status within 4 - 8 weeks."

All up it took 26 days to get my refund and many wasted hours on the online chat.

            • +4

@Shaun Prawn: 26 days is good. Try get refund from Qantas. You looking at months not days.

              • -1

@runamuck: I could understand the delay to refund if I chose to cancel my flight, but the fact they took my money and didn't book anything at all, then they should refund immediately, 1-2 days tops. I was lucky that I could afford to rebook the flights direct with the airline instead of using AirAsia (the exact same flights that they allegedly were unable to book). Imagine if you were in a position where you couldn't afford rebook and you had paid for accommodation and everything.

                • +1

@Shaun Prawn: Not sure why you got negged for this, I would have been peeved also. Totally unacceptable practice.

                • +1

@Shaun Prawn: Probably because I negged the deal over it. But it's not just me that this sort thing is happening to, loads of other people on:

                  https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/air-asia

and there is absolutely no attempt at damage control from airasia representatives on there.

There is no customer service if you have a problem, no phone number to call, you can only go and wait in an online chat cue which was about an hour just waiting each time before I got through to someone. I was on there 4 times and each time just got told lies until the last one who just said "must wait" and couldn't give any time frame for the refund.

            • @Shaun Prawn: My refund took 6 months and multiple calls repeatedly giving my account number each time. You got lucky!

      Thanks for the neg jdreamer.

Given it was only hours ago people stating big issues with the airline it's very worth pointing out.

The annual pass is suss, as you can see in all the reviews and feedback. Buying each flight as required is less risky and you can at least do a chargeback with your credit card if the airline screws you over.

I've flown Air Asia X many times between KL and Australia, they are a reasonable budget airline and I'd fly them over Scoot, Jetstar or Lion Air. But they still have issues, so be prepared for cancelled flights without notice.

In today's world, it looks like Qantas/Virgin are now having service/quality levels like the old Air Asia before pandemic, and the budget airlines are at a new low.

Spew. Just booked flights with them to KL for the MotoGP.
Should have read the reviews first.

        • If it helps, I've used them half a dozen times with zero issues. Easily my favourite LCC.

          • @beatthatflight: That does help. Positive reviews are hard to find.
Was any of that half a dozen times recent?

            • @furiousgeorge: We flew AirAsiaX multiple times pre-pandemic, & they were excellent… :-)

            • +1

@furiousgeorge: No one writes about a trip that went off without a hitch :-)

I've flown them many times without issues. Just think about how many hundreds of flights they operate every day, it's only a very tiny minority that might be delayed!

              • @Flying Ace: This is true. Jetstar is also 1 star on there and Qantas isn’t much better. People do love a good whinge.

            • @furiousgeorge: Pre-pandemic, so not super recent.

Be prepared is all we said

      • chargeback with your credit card if the airline screws you over.

anyone successful with chargeback on airfares cancelled or rescheduled.

        • No. Give you Air Asia credits or non refundable depending on the ticket you purchase.

  • +3

Nah, never for me again. I bought that annual pass just before covid hit and till today i can't use the credits they gave me. Too many pre-conditions. The recent flight i booked and pre-booked my seats and they randomly allocated me and now i can't even find a human to talk to to organize a refund. And that was with a 4hour flight delay waiting around in the airport as well.

Their customer service is non-existent - their online chat times out before resolving anything, super frustrating. If anything goes wrong with your booking or flight, good luck to ya.

I arrived in KL at the weekend, on AA from Melbourne. Hands-down, the best Economy flight I have ever had.
We backed out 20 mins late and made up 10 of those on the way, but getting through Immigration and Customs (KLIA2) in less than 25 mins more than made up for that.
We sat in the quiet section (on an A330) and it was very smooth and quiet. We were second row back, legroom was fine and the seat was very comfortable.
The service was excellent, very attentive. The Uncle Chins Chicken (chicken and rice) and Thai Basil Chicken were both hot and tasty. Dunny was clean, almost fragrant.
I have never had any delays of cancellations with AA so I cannot testify to any of that but the flight itself was very good.
JStar on the way home, fingers crossed…

    • This is good to hear.

    • Nice and lucky. I had many good runs until just before covid. Then, never again. I don't mind paying more and in the end is cheaper. Google it and decide for yourself. Good luck.

I've flown with AirAsia many times and no issue. Food is also very affordable Intra Asia flights.

  • I concur with the food, albeit insufficient. And pre-booking saves you some penny too

  • What is the travelling period? Cant find the low price $269.
