Battle Station Captain Chair, What Do You Use?

Hi guys long time observer, First time poster. The most important piece of equipment we can use, the chair. We work our ass off all day and come home to something that same ass should appreciate. I Was looking for a new gaming chair But There’s so much hate on chairs and when someone thinks something is good, 2 others think it’s trash. Not everyone’s got $500+ to spend but I can safety say $300+ for a good chair is worth the money, your back is priceless, and I’ve already spent 500+ on $150 chairs that don’t last a year unfortunately.
I stumbled on this https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/typhoon-pr… First office chair of this type to see 8 years warranty? Tried it in stores and have to say wow my ass thought it was really good, anyone own this? Or what else do you pref?

I use a Haworth Zody Ergonomic Chair. Can pick up second hand for around $270-290. Punches above its weight.

You can buy a second hand chair Herman Miller or Steelcase and get a fantastic chair in great condition.

Warranty isn't important, they'll claim everything is wear and it doesn't help if the chair is crap in the first place.

Most chairs are comfortable for the first 5 minutes, the question is how will your back feel after sitting 8 hours in it.

Tension tilt and good lower back support is a must for me. I also avoid anything with PU leather which has a very limited lifespan before it starts to peel and crack.

Cheap office chairs are a false economy if you're replacing them every 2-4 years. I've had my Herman Miller for the last 10 and still looks and operates like new.

I got a second hand steelcase leap

I don't really trust gaming chairs. It's an investment since people sit for extended periods so I wouldn't want a poor quality chair.

  • do you even ozbargain?
the correct answer is a repurposed milk crate with bubble wrap from ebay purchases gaffer taped to the top to fashion a cushion….

My old and cynical brain automatically equates the terms "gaming" with "credulous n00b"

If the chair is comfortable for half an hour or so, it'll probably be comfortable enough. But:

and I’ve already spent 500+ on $150 chairs that

is possibly an indicator that you should stop buying low end budget crap expecting it to last, and just spend that much on a secondhand office chair from a decent brand that makes… office furniture instead of gamer garbage.

I've been running the same Aeron for over a decade now*. I've got a couple of secondhand HM Mirras kicking about. When I gave one to a friend who up to then had gone the cheap and cheerful route, he was initially dubious ("I don't need a chair, I have plenty"). First time he parked his ass into it, it opened his eyes to another world, and three months later he is still thanking me for it.

Mirras seem to go for 300-400 secondhand. I am sure there are other models and brands that are just as, if not better, from a comfort and reliability perspective. None of these models will have stupid names like Typhoon Prime Destructo Machine.

Note * I got the Aeron at an Aeron Hockey event, where two teams roll around slamming chairs into each other with hockey sticks. By the end of the night, one small piece of cosmetic plastic had fallen off one of the chairs. Would I buy one new for full price? Hell no.

  • I've had a Secretlab Titan for the past 4 years and it's never missed the mark. Still in great condition, adjustable lumbar support is helpful enough and I find it firm and comfortable for 14+ hour days in the chair (wfh and then gaming).

    • i have a titan 2
ozbargainers will scream blue murder over paying $750 for a computer chair but i just got sick of paying 200-300 for something and six months later it's falling apart
it's comfortable and solid (without a doubt the heaviest chair i've ever owned)

  • Herman miller

  • I would recommend this from Costco:

    https://www.costco.com.au/Home-Furniture/Office/Office-Gamin…

$299 in store (online price includes delivery). Way better than similar prices options at Ikea/Officeworks.

Liked it so much that I just bought a second one.

  • Honestly, any 'gaming' chair that is designed like a racing seat is the stupidest, form over function thing ever. A aggressive seat in a performance car is designed to compromise on comfort and focus on keeping the driver in their seat on high G turns. Plus racing seats can support harnesses & Hans device.
You can get high and you can turn in your room but you ain't pulling Gs like a race car. rant over. get a real chair.

  • Are you talking about a chair for your desk? Gaming chairs are pretty overrated IMO, I don't understand why people buy them.

After sitting in a Steelcase chair once (I think it was the Series 1) I'm definitely aiming to buy one of those one day, it was probably the comfiest chair I've ever sat in, would highly recommend you sit in one and see how it feels.

  • Have a secret lab chair.

Using it for years and have had back pain almost all the time.

Thought it was from my years of deadlifting with poor form.

Ended up getting one of the beat up cheap $50 haworth zody for my garage to work on stuff. Was super comfortable so I moved it to my PC.

    Back pain is significantly better.

Was just the chair the whole time

  • Ergonomic fabric chair.

  • The Ergotune Supreme V3 is on sale ATM and this thing always tops the list for best ergonomic chair our there right now.
