    Good?

Comparing to the previous $169 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVME:

      DOUBT

      • +2

        But CHEAP

      • The previous 4.0 had lower read and write speeds though..

Are you referring to this Kingston NV2 2TB deal for $169?

It is Gen 4 but seems to have worse specs,

        Intel 670p 2TB Kingston NV2 2TB
Read Speed Up to 3,500 MB/s Up to 3,500 MB/s
Write Speed Up to 2,700 MB/s Up to 2,100 MB/s
        Endurance 740 TBW 640 TBW

This is a good deal for the SSD based on the specifications given.

Seems like a good, cheap ssd. Gen 3 but has very decent speeds compared to others. 2TB for $150?? Can't go wrong.

    • +3

And outright speeds aren't even really a useful indicator of real time performance. Next to no difference in windows and gaming load times with this VS gen 4

  • It's a good deal for 2TB NVMe SSD!

Any good for PS5? What heatsink I should D get with it?

    • +1

      No this won't work in a PS5

      • +1

        Doesn't a PS5 need a gen4 stick?

        • +6

Yep which is why this won't work in a ps5 🙂

Are you guys new to the NVMe game? This uses QLC NAND. A few years ago, we would have boycotted this due to shorter warranty and rated endurance.

    • idk what people use their ssds for, but i have an ssd with 20000hrs of use, and only 21TB written so far. (512GB ssd). health at 97%

      • +2

        Idk probably went sailing

      • I'm a bit worried about how many 4gb AI models I'm creating and deleting each day as I train and merge them. The SSD is nice for speed but it feels like all these rapid '50gb of data created, sorted, and pruned' events are going to add up fast.

In late 2013, I purchased a Samsung XP941 from RamCity. It was used as my daily boot drive until about a month ago, in a machine that spent all but 56 hours powered on since 2013

I can't recall the TBW, but it had 92% health left on it and showed no error codes

Daily machines that aren't used as servers don't really kill SSDs - my anecdotal experience is probably one of the clearest examples of this. In all truth, I probably have the most heavily used daily driver XP941 on the planet lol..

No, the endurance and warranty from QLC drives is absolutely fine - at 740TBW you can write 100GB to this drive every single day for the next 20 years

The only people complaining about "endurance" were people who mistakenly thought a "normal" user could possibly get anywhere close to these write levels…

Buy a NVMe enclosure and you have a portable 2TB SSD for <$200

  • Is using this as a gaming HDD without a heatsink an issue?

  • I am looking for a NVMe Gen3 2Tb SSD for my PC - general usage PC, not a server. Was waiting for a sn570 deal to come up, have read that the 2tb SN570 is a decent SSD. Anyone got any opinions on the SN570 vs this 670p? i.e. if i should just get this or wait for a SN570 deal…
Currently running a SATA M.2, so guessing either will be quite an upgrade.

This drive is absolutely perfect for general PC use - but note that you'll barely notice any difference from your SATA drive except for large file copies - things like Windows boot time and game load times barely change between basic and ultra-speed drives.
