Banana Stands, Why Are They So Expensive?

I’m looking for a wooden banana stand or a decent looking metal one. However they are all well over $20 for something that looks sturdy and decent.

Do they ever come on sale anywhere like Aldi?

I guess it is a very niche item? I had no idea this sort of thing even existed. For a minute there I was wondering if "banana" was innuendo for something else… ;)

Can't say I have ever seen a banana stand in person.

What is the benefit of such an item? Does it keep your bananas good for longer?

You can get ones with a little holder for your other fruits like apples but unless the bananas are on the more fresh side, I imagine the bananas would start to get pulled down and unpeeled by gravity.

      example

They keep longer than in a bag or laying down for instance because it allows full circulation and excess ethylene to escape.

        in a bag

What kind of psychopath leaves any fruit bagged on the counter with the QLD heat we have been getting especially lately…

      • +4

Can you let me know what you end up getting? Would like my partners banana to last longer as well before excess escape.

      • If you want them to keep longer you can wrap cling wrap on the end.

      "banana"…"innuendo"

      get out.

You have to have somewhere to keep your bananas, because you're not supposed to keep them in the fridge. If you do they don't finish ripening, and instead go off unripened.

With the OP's username I can't blame you for thinking of such "innuendo"

I burned it. Right down to the ground.

It's one banana, Michael. What could it cost, $10?

      RIP Jessica Walter

  • Looks like it starts from around $12 shipped on Ali - $20 shipped for a local shipped one is worth imo considering postage probably costs at least $5 for the seller.

I see you are based in Capalaba, some close suburbs start curb side pickup soon, prob could fashion one out of salvaged metal/wood, it’s a hook and a stand how hard could it be 😂

    • The richies in Gumdale? It hard to get anything with the professional junkers going through there.

    Daiso banana stand

    • I've got this one - didn't know they existed until i saw it. Keeps my bananas from hogging the fruit bowl.

    A banana stand?

Now I want a banana stand

Go asian-style on it and hang it off somewhere with this string. (It's the same string asians use to to tie that sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf - they use it in the asian supermarkets to hang everything else!)

  • +1

Get a Daiso one. They can also be used as a cheap headphone stand (no RGB though).

  • theres always money in the banana stand….

  • I did see some the other week at TK-Max, metal, combined fruit bowls in a few colours, quite simplistic in shapes like this for only $15-$20. Almost got one ended up just getting one of the bowls without the banana holder since the gas will just disperse out the bowl regardless

  • Just take a stand. Or make a stand…

  • This one looks like a dalek

  • Because they are bougie, and generally aren't Flatpack

  • All I see is an opportunity here.

  • They make for amazing Headphone stands if that helps :P or in some cases for vr headsets

  • I have seen one on an Aldi sale last year, I can't remember how much it was though but I wanted to get it but couldn't end up getting out to Aldi on the day. I think $12 or something?

just came here to say…There's always money in the banana stand!

  • It's a niche item based on want rather than need. More room to charger high prices

  • Just get a normal fruit metal fruit bowl. Fully airated and not a gimmick.

  • I made one out of an old metal coat hanger.

  • Aliexpress has 50 squillion of them for $8 or less.
Every conceivable combination of material and shape.

TIL banana stands exist. A table or bowl has always worked for me.

  • Need to get yourself to Daiso bro. Think they are only bout $4. Get some Pocky and dried mango while you're there

Let's be honest. You're still going to:

    • let them over-ripen and turn black
    • throw them in the freezer thinking you'll using them for banana bread
    • inevitably throw them out in 6 months' time because they're all frost-bitten as you sigh, muttering "Next time… next time it'll be different… if only I had a banana stand to release the excess ethylene…"
  • Someone asking for a banana stand but yet won't pay more than $20

This has got to be a troll

  • maybe just 3d print one?

If you can't stand the Banana get out of the kitchen

  • Try Amazon.
I have a mental one with a basket at the bottom and bananas hanging at the top.

  • I hang one of these from the handle on a kitchen cupboard. Job done!

  • Probably not going to help, but I bought a beautiful hand crafted one from a craft show for $5, in the wood turners area. One of my favourite kitchen items, it is always in use!

  • Have to ask:
Do they perform the job as intended?

    • Depends on the size of your banana(s).

  • +1

Should I also enquire about my berries?

    • You don't want your berries hanging off your banana(s).

It's one banana stand, Michael. How much could it cost? 100 dollars?
