Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 $299.99 @ J&W Computers + Shipping or Pickup

510

Not sure if this is the cheapest this has ever been (possibly cheaper last week at Kogan?), but the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Wifi for under $300, Australian stock from JW Computers.

It's $17 for insured delivery or pickup from one of the stores (Villawood, Bella Vista, Bankstown) for the westies in Sydney!

Compared to the Nexus 7, this is on paper weaker, but some may want the expandable memory.

Good price, also some people prefer the Super AMOLED screen and front and rear camera and Aus stock?

    • +13

Do you know what is Tab 2? "2" doesn't matter it is better. I know it is confusing.

The guy neg me doesn't check the spec of Tab 2.

Anyone please reverse my neg if you think I am right :)

      • -5

Haven't really been following Samsung tablets but isn't version 2 meant to be better than its predecessor? Can you explain

        • -1

          google!!

        • +1

          Just Google the spec.

7" tab 2 is the next version of 7" tab but not the next version of 7.7" tab

        • +1

The GT 7 "2" is the successor to the very first 7 inch Galaxy Tab that launched back in 2010 or something. It's lower specced than the 7.7.

        • This is just me speculating, but I think its better to get tab 2 instead. From samsung trend we know that they do not enjoy providing os updates and this tablet probably wouldn't be supported any further than 4.0 . And every iteration of androids is hell lot of difference.

        • As I know the 3G version already have official ICS.

          http://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-7-7-ics-a…

    • +3

You have got to be kidding me. The tab 2 is an entirely different class. It's like comparing apples to oranges. You're not right, you're not even wrong!

      • +6

Comparing apples to oranges is a specialty of some OZbargainers!

    • +26

      I thought Samsung was Korean?

It may not acquire Australian Citizenship but it does acquire local support & after service which is actually worth knowing.

      • -8

The company might be but are you sure all their products are made there, too? Just like Apple is American but the Ipad is made by Foxconn in China which is why Apple can make such immense profits.

        • +1

          This !

Always makes me laugh with Apples when Apple proudly displays "Designed in California".

        • +2

It may not acquire Australian Citizenship but it does acquire local support & after service which is actually worth knowing

Why do you keep arguing useless points when this is the one and only reason local is preferred over imported?

        • +4

          because he's got a dangerous obsession/addiction with Amazon.de

    • +12

Australian stock usually means you don't have to wait for it to ship from overseas, which may take two - three weeks, it has the correct power adapter, and a locally honoured warrenty.

I'm not sure where your "Overseas longer warranty" bit comes from.

      • -1

See other posts. TVs shipped from Germany within 4 days! That is faster than many packets that are sent from Sydney or Melbourne. Plus if you buy something in Germany which has global warranty the warranty is two years whereas if you buy "local stock" the warranty is only 1 year! Plus often you can save 25%+ overseas. No contest for me to decide which is better.

        • +4

For specific items, in specific cases, yes. But generally buying from most Chinese/Taiwanese sellers means shipping on the slow boat.

        • +1

Theres a guy I know who has waited three weeks so far for his Vita from Amazon.de

    • +10

Hey Australian doesn't mean born in Australia

  • I've been to their Bella Vista store a number of times, their staff have always been very helpful!

  • +1

JB Hifi were willing to sell me this tablet for $286.

  • @lambsie hey do you know if they have 3g version on sale ?

    • Nvm

      • ???

        • I was just going to say 3g version wasn't released in the aus market, but I thought you were asking if jb hifi had stock…

  • +2

ive got one of these, still on of the best 7inch tablets on the market!

  • Is this or the Nexus 7 better? They're pretty much the same price.

    • -2

Nexus 7 has a slightly better screen, fast processor, android jelly bean OS
HOWEVER it doesnt have expandable memory which the Samsung does have.
Samsung i think is slightly slimmer and feels better build quality.

      • You mean IPS is better than Super AOMLED?

        • The 7.7 has the SAMOLED+, meaning it's the non-Pentile version. If you want an AMOLED-type screen, this is the best display Samsung has made. IPS LCD is completely different technology that has better brightness and whites but poorer colours.

        • +1

i have both tablets. the IPS seems to have deeper/darker blacks which makes other colours pop out a bit more, but it is brighter.
SAMOLED on this samsung seems to have a lower pixel density - so you can even see alot of the pixels in texts and pictures etc. But the colours are very nice and rich.
          both are good screens though.

      • +1

Errr the Samsung has the better screen. SAMOLED+ and the extra 0.7 inches. Plus there seems to be quality issues with the Nexus.

This also has native USB OTG and HDMI output. Great for playing the Olympics on my tv via the Foxtel app at the moment =)

    • -1

apart from OS the Galaxy wins hands down, don't forget the Nexus is cheaper because it doesn't have 3G or GPS which the Galaxy does!

      • No 3G for galaxy 7.7 with this version.

      • The nexus does have onboard GPS…

  • Nexus has a faster processor. Besides that, all the other hardware specs & quality in this one are better.

    • +3

Also forgot nexus will have updates instantaneously whereas Samsung are very behind the game on releasing updates. Keep that in mind.

      • +3

Dunno why that got a neg, it's the truth…Samsung are dragging the chain big-time with updates!

        • +3

Software updates are very important with Androids. 4.0-4.1.1 is a massive leap in performance.

      • -2

You're assuming that the following version will be better than the previous. TBH since Froyo there haven't been meaningful changes for the common uses of a tablet. Browsing/Watch video/Play Music/Read eBooks. There have been always apps available to cover when the stock ones were not so good.
So, unless you want a tablet for the purpose of updating the OS every 2 months, this should be ok. Do you use the tablet for updating or for watching videos ?? I can tell you the screen in the 7.7 is far more beter than the in N7 and samsung video player can handle most of the formats.

        • +1

You have no idea how much smoother smoother and responsive jellybean is. It has made my Xoom into a great tablet again where it was feeling a bit too laggy for everyday use. If you're looking for something to watch videos on perhaps you should consider a TV? BTW, N7 > GT and Froyo sucked, honeycomb was better but JB is an iOS challenging tablet OS.

        • It's safe to say that this tab will never get Jelly Bean. Samsung are completely disinterested in releasing updates and it's very low on their priority list.

        • yes I agree. But the 7.7 has very similar hardware to the SG2, so JB community roms should be forthcoming, and you know they will be 10x better than the crap Samsung cobbles together.

        • I think Samsung have picked up their game with updates, or are at least getting better. I think the 7.7 is a chance for JB. But ICS is great nonetheless.

        • +2

7.7 with HC was slow, now with ICS is fast enough for me. I'm happy with it and I don't need any upgrade because verythig works as expected.
ICS in my S2 feels like a downgrade from GB so the upgrade didn't work as expected.
Unless you have a passion for upgrading android versions this 7.7 with ICS should be enough for most of the users. IMO Froyo & GB in my SG7 were better than HC in 7.7. My old SG7 with GB felt laggy too, I did a factory reset and became snappy as the day I unboxed it. ;-)
N7 is a good budget tablet with amazing good press. Built for the masses to generate revenue for google through the market. I think with the N7 andorid can offer an amazing end user experience out of the box, but is not better than a 7.7 after upgrading to ICS. Bigger & better screen, microSD up to 64gb, thiner , better build quality, better battery life, except for the CPU all hardware specs are better in the 7.7.

        • You mean the galaxy only has a better screen?

        • Have you tried the full hd test video (the killa clip with the flock of birds flying)? The only device which can play this video unstuttered is the N7.

        • Link to said video?

        • Your link only had a 720p version. I found a 1080p version but it threw an error about 5 seconds in (after downloading the MP4 from youtube).

Is that part of the stress test or a dodgy file?

        • Pls find the 1080p mkv version. The size of the file is 96MB.

  • guys anyone knows the best price source for 3g version ? please help.
    thanks.

    • +2

No Australian stock have 3G version, you have to go to like mobile city.

Is 7" better to hold in one hand that 7.7" but 7" seems a bit too narrow.

      • +11

        Thats what she said?

  • +1

funny thing is I have one with a broken screen and they want 380 to repair it lol

    • +1

Same here. I need the 3g model as well. The techrific has put it on $449+shipping which I think is still too much for this. If anyone knows any cheaper let me know.

      • I would love to get the 3g for about 400….. Is techrific reliable?

  • -3

    • $100

      • +1

        $100 and a button

        (The button is shiny)

  • Is this better than Galaxy Tab 2.0 7"?

    • the 7.7 is much higher spec…the 2.0 is basically their budget 7 inch tablet.

  • +1

The 7.7 still feels like current technology, especially with ics.
I played with a nexus 7 in dse early this week and was surprisingly unimpressed. The screen seemed dull after using my 7.7, and the build feels light and flimsy.

    • Completely agree, however I do like the feel of the nexus, but the screen as stated is dull compared to the 7.7

      • +2

Tbf the screen settings are dull by default. I turned mine up to 60% and it is fine. Not as flash as my SGSII when compared but still fine. Apparently though the overall dullness is a software stuff up and is fixable in future fw updates.

        Also its far from flimsy.

        • No stuff up, was done to save on battery, . Once you say the dull fix is done, watch the battery life go down compared to the 7.7.

        • Makes sense

  • OP, your address details and everything are still in the link you send from JW.com.au. i think you should get another link as everyone can see in your account details.

    • You are right, I just logged him off so you can't anymore. I hope he does not mind.

      • +2

Still showing their account details for me. I just ordered him a batch of 20 for pickup. . I hope he does not mind. /jk.

        • Nah there's an issue, shows different names at every visit…..?? Stumo did you grab one?

  • Nah, imma wait a while and just get one on ebay hopefully a bit cheaper than this.. I'm sold on the 7.7 though, that screen is awesome. It would be hard to resist $299 shipped though,.
