    Is it free shipping?

    • +1

Postage varies, its $9 to Syd, and $13 to Melb. Enter postcode in the box on the right.

    • Nope, I'm getting $13 from the calculator for (3551) Regional Victoria, so $128 - not as good as previous deals for me :(

      • +3

Yeah this deal isn't breaking any new ground for me either. Someone wake me when this Samsung, Crucial M4, or Intel 120's are $99 shipped.

        • +2

why not the Sandisks that were at that price a few days ago?

        • +2

I'm sure they're fine, I'm just not convinced about Sandisk SSDs yet. Once they have a bit more mileage under their belts I'm down. Proven reliability is the most important thing for me in a SSD (I'm even a tad reluctant about the Intel 330 lol).

        • Yeah $99 shipped is kind of the unwritten rule. I will purchase in a heart beat when thats the deal (Intel would be nice)

        • sandisk has been in the memory industry for years and the sandisk extreme line has been some of the best quality components ever made just look at professional digital camera memory cards they have been leadin edge for years along with their micro sd's

i bought the 120GB sandisk extreme
it uses Toggle synchronous nand controller which is top stuff if u knew more about ssd's that along with their years of memory production they are a good choice

most use asynchronous which is cheap along with cheap memory chips

        • +1

Some reviews say the Samsungs are faster, others say the Sandisk. I think in reality they will both be so fast, you'll have difficulty telling the difference in the real world. Samsung has the reputation in SSDs, Sandisk has it in flash memory.

The biggest and most important difference (for some) is the drive height difference. Sandisk 9.5mm (standard laptop height)
Samsung 7mm - for ultrathin laptops (eg Lenovo x220, T420s)

The drive height also excludes many Intel drives (unless you're willing to remove the spacer and potentially void warranty)

I'm hanging out for a deal on the 512gb. Skycomp for that is very expensive

        • if u actually look at the bechmark reviews sandisk does better then vertex 4 and crucial and some areas infact getting higest speeds then other ssd's in the same class

but when u look at the difference its very minimal

but when ur buying something that is better then others cheaper then something that isnt as good its an all round good deal

and wont be long till 512GB is small for ssd'

      • This works out to be $124.95, but not sure about stock… :S

    • Samsung is Sata 3, OCZ is SATA 2, so its hard to compare.

      • +7

Also: Samsung is Samsung, OCZ is crap.

        • +5

Amen to that, given OCZ's past shady dealings in the SSD business I would never buy from them.

        • Samsung have more of a reputation for shady dealings (price fixing, board scandals), but I do agree, the quality of there drives seems to be far better :)

        • I mean in terms of reliability and denying they have inherent design issues, whereas at the same time Corsair were upfront about it and quick to resolve the issues…

    • Samsung seems to be really good for it's reliability, have not heard of any issues so far from people.

But if you're really looking for just a cheap SSD then be my guest and go ahead with the Octane

  • I read this Intel 330 review (by Anandtech) yesterday and one thing that stuck out was the Samsung 830 which seemed to be leading the pack.

Looks like a good price with cheap shipping. Shame the 256GB is so dear.

  • has anyone (with a Mac Pro) installed one of these SSDrives? and what is the "best" brand that every raves about. cheers.

      crucial m4 all the way

      • i second that.

  • BTW: does "Solid State Drive with Desktop Upgrade Kit SATA – SATA III (6 Gb/s)" mean it comes with a 3.5in to 2.5in adapter?

  • it's $131 on their site. Or is there a promo code?

    • +1

It was $115 without promo code when I saw this last night. They've changed it to $119 now.
