Hard to believe how much these have gone up in price in the past 12 months or so - last year, bought one with a generic battery for $23 on eBay and it's surprisingly good for basic pruning where a reciprocating saw is too long etc. These devices all seem to be basically the same, just keep the chain oiled with bar oil and learn how to sharpen if needed - ours has done a couple of hours of actual work and still works without any sharpening so far. Oil is critical though, as with any chainsaw.

Wife loves it - she refuses to use out larger ones. We have a lot of trees etc… The DeWalt 18V chainsaw gets most use now other than petrol ones.

    • Do the smaller ones get all messy and grimy with chain oil like the big ones do after a while?

      • The smaller ones use sacrificial bars; they dont STRICTLY need lubing.

They last much longer with; but since its not a necessity, you can use less.

So, in short; Yes, but much less so.

The motor is pretty weak. It stops.

You can buy it for an extra $10 on eBay. Those who don't want to deal with BG.

    • Thanks just got one for $22.95 after ebay plus less $5

Used one for 30 mins, got a funny smell and never worked again. Avoid.

I have a similar one, very useful but because they aren't lubricated, it needs to be oiled after every use or the chain seizes up.

  • You'd be much better off with a proper hand pruning saw , like a silky or similar.
Those "chainsaw" things are more effort than they're worth .

  • Those finger quicks though.. .

    • Received mine. Looks decent for the price. Well packed, quickly delivered and four pages of installation and usage instructions in plain English.

Bought some bar oil off Amazon for $10 to go with it. Time will tell how well it holds up, but with two Makita compatible generic batteries and charger included, very happy with the value proposition. It will be interesting to see how it performs with my larger Makita batteries, to see if they deliver any more torque…

      Thanks OP!

  • Don't think this will cut. I have a Stihl and RYOBI (which I hate as it is literally useless). The item on this bargain is most likely landfill stuff.
