  • I think the price changes depending on the State you are in.

    • Yes coming up as 549 for me
      Premium users have 519

  • Wish I'd just got this instead of the AX9000 with its terrible wifi strength

    • This is more than double the price.
      Entirely different league.

    Nice spider.

I have seen this under $500.

Wait for eBay deals. Computer Alliance, I think it was $550 - 20% = $440…

Should be under $500 now as it’s old wifi 6, not newer 6E or even 7.

My router only has 4 legs , will this one run a lot faster .

    • My router has none so it can’t run away

    $65 per tentacle

hmmm, is this really better then asus rog rapture gt-ax6000 whic you can have cheaper , doubt it

    • Yes. Though, obviously it might be overkill for what you need.

  • what's this like vs the Asus GT-AX6000 router?

  • First of turn over that spider. It must be exhausting for him

    • It looks like a face hugger to me. Definitely safer flipped over.

  • In regards to the USB adaptor, you will always get better performance and more consistent reliability from an Intel PCI-E AX200 or AX210 card.

I wouldn't personally spend this much on a WiFi 6 router. Wi-Fi 6a / WiFi 7 with 6Ghz support is going to be more future proof.

Can someone please explain the benefits of this over the free one that came from my ISP?
I have an 8 year old modem and FTTP.
Getting 3ms ping on speed test and 108Mbps on a 10Mbpd plan.

I normally live by the motto "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Perhaps the benefit is in wifi and prioritising traffic (games, calls etc)

    • +1

You have a lot more control over your modem settings. Asus routers use Asuswrt firmware which give give you details like which devices are downloading how much data from where. It can prioritise traffic, connect to a VPN so your all traffic is encrypted, etc.

With my Optus router, I couldn't even do something as simple as change the DNS.

If you don't need or want that level of detail, then by all means, keep using the ISP one. They're not bad, but if you want to do more, get a third party router. And I would strongly suggest Asus routers simply because Asuswrt is amazing.

      • Thanks! Yeah I figured as much.
And I'm a big fan of Asus. Good quality gear and it's HQ is Taiwanese based, a country I visit often and value their engineering and workmanship.
