Was looking at this in the morning but went with the KC3000 instead, cause can't wait XD

    • This or kc3000?

      • My take is the speed is similar, KC3000 has higher endurance, but no encryption. Whichever is cheaper should be a better buy.

Note if you get one these, there's an issue with some batches dying. There's a firmware update you will need to do if it's an affected batch. Worth checking before you start throwing on your data or into PS5.

      3500MB/s for reads, 3450MB/s writes

The specs aren't for ps5, you need minimum 5000 MB/s read and writes.

The Amazon listing was wrong and has been updated now showing:

Maximum Speed: 980 PRO is raising the bar for NVMe SSDs, delivering read speeds up to 7,000 MB/s

980 Pro is definitely PS5 compatible.

In fact even slower Gen 4 drives that do not meet min requirement still work fine. For now anyway, till games saturate the bandwidth need.

I'd also make sure that it says genuine next to the serial number in Samsung Magician when you go to update the firmware too, since there have been fake 980 Pro ssds spotted in the wild. While I doubt Amazon would source them directly, they sure love shipping returns.

      • Yep, actually a very valid point. Had no idea they were being faked already.

  • Read write speeds on the description seem to be from the non-pro version.

    • Yeah they seem to have put the PCIE Gen 3 speeds there as it's backwards compatible. The 980 Pro running PCIE Gen 4 should be reaching 6500-7000MB/s read times

Make sure to download the correct firmware for these, whoever wants to buy these

  • I've bought one, but note: There is no international warranty from Samsung and the Amazon return windows is short.

Is that even legal in Australia?

    • I've found Amazon returns pretty good even outside of their 30 day window. At least for faulty products that die within their warranty period.

      • there is no return or contact amazon under my order after 30 days. How to contact amazon for warranty?

        • Click 'contact us' down the bottom of the page.

          https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/help/customer/display.html?node…

Then on the next page if your item isn't there hit 'help with a different item', 'show more items' until your order appears, click the item you want to return and then 'returns and refunds'. Follow the prompts from there until you see 'start a return or replacement'.

          • @EightImmortals: thanks, I've found it under. Not sure if it will work within 12 months but not for Samsung's 5 years.

**Defective item / item does not work
You can return items that are defective or don't work to Amazon for a replacement or refund via the Returns Support Centre.

If it's been 30 days since you received it, you'll need to contact us to return it. You may wish to visit the manufacturer's website or contact them directly as they may be able to offer troubleshooting and support. **

  • Are their any external RAID enclosures that could take 2 of these in RAID0?
