Purchased @ $131.19 two days ago and got an additional 5% discount for purchasing two.
Amazon chat was happy to give me a one off credit for the difference as I haven't received it yet.

There's still an additional 5% off offer if you buy two.

  • I wonder how the new gen5 shape up being at 10,000mbs compared to these in real task use and not benchmarks.

Regular use we have already hit diminishing returns. The real benefits will come in via directStorage APIs for high performance workloads such as gaming, rendering, and editing.

      • Yeah that'll be whenever games actually start using DirectStorage. So far, and correct me if I'm wrong, only one poorly received title has had it as a part of it and it didn't really do anything.

You're correct. Its more future proofing than anything else.

Almost no perceptible change - things like Windows boot time and Game load time already barely change between the fastest and slowest SSDs.
There's only certain specific tasks (like large file copies from SSD to SSD) that benefit from a faster drive.

Just to add to the other comments saying that we have already reached the point of diminishing returns…

Unrelated to this actual item, but I just wanted to give an update on my failed 980pro 2TB warranty claim. Samsung refused the RMA due to it being fullfilled by Amazon US, which was expected unfortunately. Amazon honored warranty though even though the drive was 1.5 years old, so I am pretty happy with the eventual outcome on this.

      Thanks for the info.
Too few stories about failures and RMA make me suspicious.

Amazon may be an awful company overall but their customer support is usually good

Probably better service than you would have got through Samsung Australia anyway.

    • Samsung refused the RMA due to it being fullfilled by Amazon US

Which Samsung did you request the RMA from? Samsung AU or US?

      • Samsung AU. Not sure how it would have gone if i had requested through US. Id assume it would be the same though. Most companies will not honour warranty on products sold outside the intended region.

    • +1

Ah finally an update. I was about to send you a PM lol.

  • +5

Its disgraceful that Samsung won't honour there own products sold by a 2nd party etc just a loophole for them slip though.

    • they will need to close that loophole

    • +1

They aren't the only company who doesn't honor warranty if it's not purchased in the country you are in. I know for a fact that both MSI & Asus don't honor warranties on products if you've bought them from an overseas store.

    • Cant help, the distributer and the chain below them didnt make any profit from the item you purchased from other country, so they wont honor the warranty.

  • Do you need to buy a heatsink for these also?

  • Cheers, grabbed one for new build.
