Fenvi Intel AC1200 WiFi & Bluetooth 4.0 PCIe Adapter US$10.03 (~A$15.06) Delivered @ Factory Direct Collected Store AliExpress

910

Low price on this PCIe WiFi AC1200 and Bluetooth 4.0 adapter from Fenvi that's using an Intel chipset. I picked one up about 4 weeks ago and it's working really well. Plus it comes with a low profile bracket making it perfect for SFF PCs if you've picked up a good refurb deal recently and don't want to use a USB adapter.

  • Seems very cheap. Don't these usually go for $50?

    • +5

For $50 in China? No. This store sells a lot of stuff very cheap and it's legitimate. I've had 20+ orders from them with no issue.

    • +1

      I think that's TP-link or Asus …not Fenvi.

  • What speeds are you getting on wifi with it?

    • -1

Considering I'm on an NBN 55 down plan I'm easily hitting that.

      • +1

You could easily hit 55 Mbps with a Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) adapter in 2009. This adapter's performance has little to do with your NBN.

You might be able to get 867 Mbps, but adapters vary in quality so the maximum speeds you get with this one are important.

        • -3

          Exactly silly question to ask.

          • +7

@Clear: Not a silly question at all. Just an unsuitable answer, as your NBN is too slow to gauge modern wifi.

            • +1

@Ulysses31: Yep. Ideally I should test it on my gigabit connection 😅

              • +3

@Clear: I think he means lan speeds. Oh well

  • +1

when you try to buy it says can not ship to AU

  • Nice find thanks! This is perfect for what im looking for

  • +1

What intel chipset? I noticed there's a internal usb header required for the bluetooth component of the card…

    • +1

All PCI-E devices of this type require a usb 2.0 internal header for bluetooth to work. edit: probably Intel 8260.

      • -1

Why can't Bluetooth go over pci-e?

        • +4

It's how products are developed. Off the shelf everything with almost no driver writing is the preferred method and as cheap as possible.
Not worth the cost for the silicon to multiplex the two signals together onto shared PCIe lanes (the WiFi and the BT are separate pieces of silicon, after all, they're just packaged together), when BT sees absolutely no benefit from PCIe over USB. PCIe multiplexing is expensive.

        • It must be becuase Bluetooth uses the usb bus instead of pci-e bus to interface connected devices

          • -2

            @Budju: Wow genius!
That wasn't the question I asked though.

            • -1

@spaceflight: The design of bluetooth is created to interface with the USB bus. Maybe you could redesign the bluetooth standard to change that and call it spacetooth.

              • @Budju: Guess which bus USB interfaces with on modern PCs?

                • @2024: Of course they are connected, I think you miss the point about bluetooth standard.

                  • @Budju: Is your point that the only supported interface for a Bluetooth HCI is USB, and that this is clearly defined in the standard?

                    • @2024: No, his point is that Bluetooth is almost always connected over USB.

Hence the USB header - there's nothing to see here, this is just normal behaviour.

                      • @Nom: But why would anyone need to redesign Bluetooth to whack a usb controller, switch chip and m2 slot on a card?

      • +4

For anyon who purchased one of the 9020 optiplexes, they don't have an internal header, but you can get a cable that ends in a regular USB male plug and run it to the back of the case.

    • just checked reviews on aliexpress page, it's a AC7260 chipset

  • +7

    Thanks OP.

I like the Wifi 6e model with the intel AX210.

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004959613888.html

    $28US.

Thinking about this or the MSI Herald, same chip, but costs $60~.

    • +4

You can get it a bit cheaper without the heatsink too.

      • +2

        without the heatsink too.

You word it like it's a bad thing?

        • +2

Some people get funny about that sort of thing. Makes little difference I would think.

          • @Clear: I see. Well, got your one. $25.25. Thanks.

            Fingers crossed CR clears.

    • +1

Comes up for me at $25AUD with 20% cashback on cashrewards (may or may not track).

      • +1

$27.28AUD final price with taxes etc.

    • +1

Thanks for posting this, seems to be cheapest for harvesting the ax210 card compared to outright buying.

  • Thanks OP! Also, if you make a new account, it applies the new customer discount which brought it down to A$10.38 for me. (If it stacks with the cashrewards 20%, chips off another dollar or so)

    Chinese spyware?

    • +9

Intel are American, so American spyware? Too bad ISPs like Optus are using Huawei gear and Telstra using Cisco for a lot of their datacentres I've worked in.

    • +7

Mr Chew, does this wifi adapter access the home wifi network?

      • +4

Mine connects to my neighbours network

      • Only when using the camera for the sunglasses filter

  • -4

Bluetooth 4.0 was released December 2009

    • +2

And WiFi in 1997. What's your point? For 15 bucks is WiFi ac with Bluetooth 4.0 a big deal over Bluetooth 5? No.

      • Bluetooth 4.1 was released in 2013, so what I'm saying is this is using tech at least 10+ years old. A fair bit of advances in tech and more importantly, vulnerabilities have been fixed during this time.

Sure the device is cheap, but what other cost savings measures did they take? Just an FYI, not saying it's not a bargain, but buyer beware.

        • +2

There isn't even really a massive difference between 4.0 and 5.x anyway. Sure on paper 5.x has significantly more range and what not, but how many Bluetooth receivers actually take advantage of all of these? Very little. Not least a WiFi adapter.

Either way 5.x adapters aren't expensive. Just be careful of the really cheap 5.0 USB adapters as many are really 4.x.

          • +4

@Clear: its an intel 8260 allegedly which was released in 2015 so what do you really expect… its ac1200 which isnt a new standard but realistically should be sufficent for many users

be that as it may, its a $15 card… what are people going about 'cost savings' - show me a better card for $15 or less

people act as if their $15 buys the earth these days? hell it barely buys lunch and people are expecting brand names or some shit lol…

            • +1

@tonyjzx: There's nothing wrong with pointing out product limitations. It's why I read most comments.

Cost being low or high is beside the point.

Some people buy things to meet a requirement, not just for the sake of a good deal. These people would look into things like BT4 vs BT5 etc.

Others just buy even if they don't really have any requirement for it, the sake of the bargain is the mere driver and to hell with BT4 vs BT5 for these people.

                • @Clear:

There's nothing wrong with pointing out product limitations.

Unless you just point out the date and don't elaborate why it's an issue. My comment pointing out WiFi is from 1997 is no different.

    • You're saying it's available cheaper elsewhere? Or you're not personally interested in it?

  • +1
    • this has 6e which future proofs you i guess and only $3 more

      • US$17.26 inc GST ;)

  • Wish there would be something like this for a Dell Wyse unit.

  • Great price, although for what it's worth I had a Tenda pci-e card which didn't get great speeds with antennas being behind my PC tower which is backed against a solid wall.

Switched to a USB model that has a stand on the desk with antennas and the speeds are much better.

    • +1

Yes, but what were the specs of the Tenda vs the dongle?

For all we know the Tenda was wifi b/g and the USB is AX….

The antenna position might not even be the reason it was slow.

      • They were both AC1200.

  • Would this be a good choice for a ‘Dell Optimac’ Hackintosh?

  • This shows as AU $8.88 for me, delivered. Am I missing something?

    • +2

New users get a bigger discount on their first order.

  • Trying to troubleshoot a friends PC with a similar intel WiFi setup on Windows 11, Bluetooth does not work after the PC wakes from sleep. Only workaround is either go into Device Manager and disable then enable Bluetooth or restart. Anyone else have this?

  • Grabbed two, thanks op!
Allows me to save some on the mobo.

  • Has anyone ever got WoWL working with a pcie card?

    • Did you make that acronym up? 😂

      • It might mean wake on wireless LAN?

        • Yeah I figured that's what it meant, was just curious if they made the acronym up 😂

      • +1

World of Warcraft: Legion works perfectly on this card.

  • Thanks, grabbed one.

  • Grabbed one. Cost me AUD$10.00

  • -1

Its cheap because its old AC1200 stuff that no-one much wants any longer. Of course its still quite enough for most people needs, but nowadays everyone goes for at least AX2000, if not more, for a expansion card.

  • Can anyone recommend a good Bluetooth dongle with good range?

  • Arrived today. Got the AX210 model instead. Very fast. Very happy.

If you don't have access to CD drive to install the drivers, just install the AX210 drivers from their website.
