Sorry dumb question, does this only work for intel CPUs? Or it's just using intel technology

    • +7

Intel technology. It's fine for Windows 10/11 with an AMD or Intel CPU.

The Intel AX210 chipset under the heatsink would look like this

      • This maybe a totally dumb question but can this Intel AX210 chipset picture that you have shared, be inserted into an M.2 NVME drive enclosure and be used as a portable dongle when connected via a USB C 3.2 gen 1/2 port? This thing looks like a 2230 M.2 drive. Please let me know. Thank you

        • +2

          No.

However, you might be able to (with much difficulty) get something working with a Thunderbolt port, which exposes native PCIe lanes. But you're probably better off buying a dongle designed for USB from the start.

There is no reasonable way to attach a generic PCIe device to USB without Thunderbolt. Those adapters you mention speak UASP on the USB side and NVMe on the PCIe side, and only those two protocols, so they're only good for storage.

          • +1

@elusive: It's not what the OP was asking, but you can also get a generic PCIe card for putting a network card module into. This is what I did as it allowed me to buy one of the top of the line intel cards (at the time) and I can swap it out for just the cost of chipset. At the time this was much cheaper than buying a pre-made card with the same chipset on it.

          • @elusive: Thank you

    • A good question. The AX210 is normal PCIe and will work with AMD/Arm or Intel.

The AX211 is the Intel CPU only version.

Similar to 200/201 for previous gen cards.

  • Thanks, grabbed one.

    $22.36 for me.

Bluetooth 5.2 was released in January 2020

    • +3

Is that you MrPants hiding under there?

    • +9

Hmmm… interesting, are you implying that Bluetooth 5.2 was the cause of Covid and 5G was incorrectly blamed?

    • +4

And the electricity that powers this card was invented in the 1800s.

      What's your point?

  • +1

I've been using this. It's quite reliable with my NBN 100 connection but bluetooth seems to have issues where it only appears after driver refresh. so you only can use it after driver install/uninstall.

  • How do you get cash back if you can't add to cart? I usually add to cart then open in cash back site and take it to check out. Can I copy the link after opening via cash rewards then paste it in that tab?

Copy/paste 1005004959613888 into the search box and it'll take you straight to the product page. It almost always works.

Is this one of the adapters that requires an internal adapter for Bluetooth?

    • +2

Yes. The "package" picture shows it includes the USB header cable.

    • every pcie wifi adapter with BT will need to connect via a internal usb header to get bt working.

why am I so confident about it? because both mini PCIe or M.2 E key (what wifi chip ultimately use) have a pair of USB Tx/Rx signal pins.

      • Surely someone somewhere has a usb host chip on the card too?

        • +1

need to switch the PCIe signal to both wifi chip and a usb controller chip, surely it could be done but it will be no where near this price tag —- not even the "Australia Usual" WiFi6 price which is around $89+

        • +1

@Budju moronicly suggested I should develop the technology.
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13574317/redir

But that was after @phunkydude had provided a decent explanation

It's how products are developed. Off the shelf everything with almost no driver writing is the preferred method and as cheap as possible.
Not worth the cost for the silicon to multiplex the two signals together onto shared PCIe lanes (the WiFi and the BT are separate pieces of silicon, after all, they're just packaged together), when BT sees absolutely no benefit from PCIe over USB. PCIe multiplexing is expensive.

          • @spaceflight: Yeah I understand that - I was just hoping someone somewhere had a product I could buy to delete that stupid cable

  • Dumb question: Is that something I can use to make my raspberry pi 3B a VPN router?

    • +2

This is a PCI adapter, for raspberry pi you would need a USB adapter. Then again the RPI has built-in Wi-Fi so you might not need it at all?

  • +2

Just went to order this, AliExpress took my money then "closed" the order for "security reasons". Apparently the code is being overused. And apparently my refund is "processing". Just a warning to anyone else.

    • Have you been creating multiple accounts to take advantage of the welcome bonus?

      • No just one account, using my Apple ID

    • +1

Yeah for some reason I can never buy from these guys. Always says some rubbish about security.

I’d like one of these cards though, any alternatives with other sellers? Usually eBay is a front for Aliexpress. There’s Banggood too.

  • Grabbed one. Thanks OP. Was using Dongle Asus USB AC53. Hopefully will have a good improvement with WiFi 6.

  • Perfect, I have a weird problem where my laptop upload tanks when connected to router via ethernet (unless using a VPN, go figure).. but for the kids streaming sometimes I need to use NDI from a hard wired desktop and I can't get them to talk to each other when one is wired and one isn't… So fingers crossed this will fix this dumb problem by keeping it all on wifi.

    • -2

so you have a router that have 2 separate sub net, one for the wired network one for wireless?

      that's kinda dumb.

  • The link is 404

    • Do you have a vpn? If so turn it off.

      • No I dont. Shall I use a mobile phone?

        • You can try that. It's usually a VPN, corporate network or adblock that's blocking Chinese servers.

          • @Clear: Thanks it works on my iPhone app.

  • Thanks, got one. I needed this as I've been using an old netgear usb dongle that badly bent and an old belkin BT usb adapter.
    Should be a nice upgrade.

  • Would the bluetooth in this any better than a USB Bluetooth dongle connected to a USB extension cable? Am thinking about range for Home Assistant. I would think not?

  • +1

Bought one. If link not working, search the name in Aliexpress apps.

  • -1

Had bad experience with 600 & 1200 wifi cards. Having no warranty would be a worry

    • +1

      Are they working properly?

    • This is for a 3000 card

  • Thanks OP! Bought one. Must be a popular store. I've never seen a store with 5M followers.

  • anyone have any comparison idea if this would be better for online gaming compared to an existing ac1300 wifi card?

    • I think if your router supports wifi 6 then you might get slightly better latency. However there are too many other factors to say if it will actually make a difference.

You're much better off getting a long ethernet cable and running it hard wired, even if it is annoying or messy.

      • ethernet wiring isn't an option. how about powerline, it should give similar ping as ethernet wiring yes? i'm with a telstra smart modem gen 2 and Fenvi AC 1300 wifi card if that matters.

        • I haven't ever used ethernet over power sorry so I don't know

        • Ethernet over power has been good in my experience. If you're in an old house I suppose there's a chance that the wiring will result in degraded performance, though.

    • Depends on what the Fenvi AC1300 card actually is inside. Open Device Manager and check. If its an Intel 8260/9260, you should be fine with it. If its not, then the AX200 in this card would make a big difference. Well that's assuming you have issues with your existing card anyway.

      • it's a broadcom, and it's not giving me any problems yet just a tad old I've had the card for almost 6 years. wondering if something newer as this would improvement gaming latency.

        • The best way to fix WiFi latency is to just use a cable - is there some reason you must connect via Wifi ?

  • bought one, ty.

  • $26.18 now.

  • is anyone else having trouble getting the bluetooth working on this card?

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    • Have you connected the USB header?

    Review

Really good wifi and Bluetooth card
The wifi is good since I leave my pc under the kitchen table and like between 3 layers of walls to the modem.

On shitty NBN 50 - Average ethernet is like 50-55
Wifi - Usually 40 - 50 (Would be better if its points to the modem)
The ping is similar to ethernet but I don't use wifi so can't comment much.

    .
But the Bluetooth is amazing, like like 4 meters away, and still works. No drops out as of now.

    Plug and play basically
Just need to go into Update and Security —> Window updates and Check for updates and Done

For $20 cant complain, will purchase future Fenvi products
    Thanks Clear for the deal

  • +1

Thanks @Clear. I had my doubts about this unknown Chinese(?) brand but it worked out better than the Asus Ax3000 $79 I purchased from Amazon. No random disconnects and packet loss thus far.

  • My Bluetooth stops working after the computer goes to sleep. Have updated drivers from Intel and also stopped power saving on all USB ports in device manager. Any thoughts?

    • You mean after you've woken the computer up it still doesn't work? Or it doesn't work while the computer is asleep?

      • After the computer wakes back up. Only a reboot will make it work again.
