Finally! I've been waiting for the Samsung Electronics 980 PRO M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD with Heatsink 2TB + Little Skill Seekers Book bundle for ages!

  • insane price! Thanks OP.

  • Is the native heatsink better than the one came with motherboard?

I've just bought a WD sn850x 2TB, should I get one of these instead of a 2.5" SSD?

Thanks for the advices in advance!

    • Generally, yes, because SSD makers can place target areas of the SSD that needs to be kept cool better (i.e. the controller). In reality, the difference isn't that great. SN850X is generally a bit faster though.

However, do you have the workload that actually lead to thermal protection kicking in on PCIe gen 4 x4 SSDs?

      • Thanks for the reply :)

No, I don't think I do. I will be mostly playing games and maybe training my personal Stable Diffusion model as a hobby, but nothing as a profession.

I have a 2TB SSD already, and I wonder if I should buy more SSD to expand my storage capacity. I just bought a Z790 Tomahawk MOBO and it has 4 PCIe Gen 4 SSD slots (I believe?), so maybe down the road I will have to buy more storage space, but I just don't know if a SSD stick is better than a 2.5" SATA SSD drive.

        • With that motherboard and 4 m.2 NVMe slots (4 PCIe gen 4 x4 slots), you can go for PCIe gen 4 x4 NVMe SSDs first. The slot wired to the CPU should be connected to your fastest PCIe gen 4 x4 SSD though.

        • I have a 512GB nvme and 2TB sata SSD and external 10 TB platter drive. I have moved all non essential data and non-played games to external. The nvme holds the OS and couple of most frequently played games. The 2TB Sata SSD has other less frequently played games and personal data which is also backed up to cloud. I always get tempted to buy another 2TB nvme and move all my games there, but if I think about it, I dont need it. So am mentally fighting myself if to buy one or not and the not part is winning at this point probably until I see a juicy deal which is yet to happen. Like the 2TB SN770 at 140 price point or something. lol.

      It doesn't really matter

Unless your writing to it 24/7 doing video editing or shit..it's NEVER going to thermal throttle

You can place these without a heatsink and still see over 80 percent of the peformance, they are designed to run hot

Got a 980 Pro in a system with no heatsink and it games and runs at the advertised spec just fine…has for a long time

I paid that much for 1 tb 6 months ago. rip

  • The non heatsink 980 2tb for this price or the P5 Plus 2tb for 30 bucks less? Help a dude out!

    • Was there a deal you could share for the p5 plus? If its cheaper wondering if thats better to grab for my PS5. Most heatsinks for ps5 seem to be $20-40 so maybe the 980 is just easier to grab hmmm

      • P5 PLUS and the little skill seekers book is at 212 the last time I checked

  • just get the crucial mate

    save the 30 bucks…

Is it for gaming and a boot drive, then you wont notice any diffrence

Crucial has a slightly better warranty

  • Little Seekers book is a best seller….

  • Damn, I bought two of these for $23 more, just a few hours before the price dropped again. It's been going up and down for the past few days.

  • It's gone up a bit, 262 for me now before discount

Thanks, marked it as expired. The non heatsink version is still down and only a couple dollars more when you include the book.
