85 inch for 1000!! Waiting for the price to be 10$ per inch.

    • +33

      LED real estate, that's something I can afford… 😂

    • At quick glance, I thought you were waiting for the price to drop to $10. At the rate it is going it'll probably, too.

    • +23

$10 per inch. Can accommodate, send me a PM.

      • +40

Quick way for you to make a fiver aye? ;)

      • That means i'll charge $5!

    • +15

But is it? Would you not be better off with a proper brand 75" for about the same price?

Nothing worse than a washed out picture with a laggy UI.

      • +3

Agreed, quality over quantity, or in the case of TV, size

75 inch is really the sweet spot at the moment

        • +5

          Actually 77" is

          • +6

@TEER3X: Actually the sweet spot is determined by your viewing distance.

      • +4

I don't know why people keep mentioning lag on TV ui… Who even uses a TV without Google tv or a fire stick.

        • crappy smart google TV's have a noticeable lag when using the remote to navigate the UI

          • +4

@x x: OP is referring to Chromecast with Google TV. It makes any TV smart and makes slow smart TVs fast.

            • +3

@eug: Oh I didn't know that - so if I have a crappy Eko brand smart TV with google baked in but it's laggy, you're saying it will be much more responsive if I plug in one of these Chromecast with Google TV?

              • +1

@x x: Yep, recently formatted TLC TV and plugged in a Chomecast with Google TV. So much better.

              • +4

@x x: Chromecast with google tv works too if you want the easy route.

Id suggest something like projectivity launcher though and set it to launch the hdmi input on startup so you avoid the stock os unless for fta tv/changing settings.

Either that or for free and a bit of time do option 1 or 2

                1) install wolf launcher and disable the google launcher

                https://androidpctv.com/change-launcher-android-tv/

Experience is much better than the default os even the orginal one that shipped with the tv

You can try 2 or 3 but found 1 was better.

                2) rollback the android tv update to the stock one and disable the updates. Apps only original is not as laggy as google tv with ad/promo banners

                3) if you have a pihole you can block the ad/promo urls.

Note : the eko tv with google os doesn't have a great deal of ram, either install kodi and run your streaming through that or be prepared to reboot/use a memory cleaner periodically.

Usually with android you wouldn't need a memory cleaner but these get bogged down with app open/background running of apps over time.

        • 2 minute start ups :)

        • +1

Because I just want the TV UI to work? If the TV can't even handle a UI, I can't imagine it does an even basically capable job of image processing.

    • Nah, too big for edge lit black consistancy.

    • +2

I’m glad you censored your profanity

      • It auto does it, but I do enjoy when it censors (profanity) and (profanity) and whatnot but leaves shit.

        • Shit isn't profanity that's why.

  • +1

Mixed reviews I'd proceed with caution.

    • +2

Which reviews? The ones on jbhifi website just mention that mounting is a pain and you need a specific bracket and the inbuilt software is crap.

I'd get this in a heartbeat if I had the room for it.

      • No they dont read again.

Oh that's..that's not a good video. No clue why they made that. 5 points they made
      1) if you sit too close you have to turn your head. They say 11-20ft is the sweet spot. That's less than 3m away!
      2) basically low ppi is that they say, larger size same res, larger pixels. They say it's called "pixel degradation" lol. At 3m+ away is not an issue.
      3) it uses more power, ok technically yeah. And something about more processing? They kinda lost their train of thought here
      4) weight. You need two people to move it. Who moves a 75" TV solo?!
      5) depreciation on price. You're paying a premium. So it drops in price. That happens to any high end TV!

They did talk about cheap big TV's being a waste as they break, dead pixels etc, but that's true for any cheap TV.

      • +1

"they tend to be really big" :D

      • Basically that's 5 different ways of saying it's a big fkn tv. Not really any examples of genuine criticism of the screen / panel quality itself.

    • Expected at huge sizes and makes a lot of sense esp these cheapies

    • +1

Yep agree with this guy. I would take a better quality 65" over this 85" all day. 4k isn't going to save you unless you sit way back. Also think of the times you won't be watching at full res.

      • +11

This is what people with small TVs say

      • "4k isn't going to save you unless you sit way back ?"

Confused - surely you mean if you sit too far back, no point in 4k, that's your point right?

        • What im talking about is explained in the video. 85" is huge and great if you have a very big room.

    • +5

Can you please not spread this losers content, he has harrased women, threatened young people on Youtube and tries to shut down youtube channels by false flagging, this guy is a total creep and you can see why he has comments off.

      • +3

"a game that isn't made for everyone is a game that shouldn't be made" Quantum TV.

Lolol. Not sure what else he's done, but that fits well with how bad I found his review posted above.

Also I want my 15 minutes back looking into him. What a waste!

        • +1

He harassed and threatened with violence a ton of youtubers, false flagging their content to get it block and some channels got taken down because of it, he has posted a ton of homophobic and racist stuff and general nutter things that you can just assume those sorts of people come up with. All that and he's actually a shit tv/tech reviewer.

  • +1

Terribly slow software on this brand

  • TVs are 2m now?

  • +2

How do you get rid of a “85 tv if it breaks down?

    • +28

Room divider, turn your 2 bedroom into a 3 bedroom.

      • +2

It can even serve as a double bed!

      • +1

Have you seen the size of modern bedrooms?

More like turn your 2 bedroom into 1 bedroom and 2 large kitchen pantries.

    • +1

breaks it into small pieces, put in recycle bin

Put it on the footpath with a sign that says $50 or best offer. It will be gone before the night ends. You will not be $50 richer.

  • if this was a dumb tv id' buy it asap

    • +1

Can't you just not use the smart features?

    • Do those even exist at this size / price bracket?

  • Getting to the point where I'm gonna toss the protector and just get a tv lol.

    • +7

I don't think TVs come with screen protectors, but that could be a million dollar idea for sure.

      • -1

I don't think TVs come with screen protectors,

        Touch screen TV?

        • +1

My kids seem to think our tv is a touch screen tv :(

      • Haha bloody typos.

    • -1

Projector has a more consistant picture and uses 1/3 the power.

      • Sure does, washed out blacks blend nicely with the highlights.

People have been able to buy projectors for decades, and instead chose a much smaller TV because the picture quality was so poor.

        • Indeed.. but I still prefer that over an edge lit 85 that is midnight in the centre, bright day on the sides.

          • +1

@tunzafun001: I bought an edge lit 70 inch Hisense s5, one of the cheapest TVs even by Hisense standards. Even at it's worst it's still significantly better than a projector.

      • I know this deal is over, but Id get this over a projector for most purposes unless you have a dedicated area you can make sure doenst have light bleed.

        • Yeah, converted granny flat with a 5m wide projection. Only uses 120w and feels like a Cinema. For me TV is for ..well TV.
Projector for movies. I noticed the bright white areas around the perimeter of big TVs..cant stand it. So TV tops out at 65" for me.

          • @tunzafun001: I never noticed any bright white, though our 75" has groovy led strip that does the colour thingie.

(for reference I have a 110 HD projector or something in the other room) - some things its nicer to have a projector for

    • +3

I'll be your protector if you promise to toss me.

      • +3

        Will that result in juiciness?

  • +9

I remember when Blaupunkt made quality electronics.. It's crazy that these companies are all being bought out internationally and selling garbage.

You're better off to have say a 55 Inch Sony, LG, etc (not Samsung) TV over a big garbage TV with a bad/laggy UI, no software support and washer out image.

    • +2

A blaupunkt stereo in a modified skyline used to be commonplace.

  • Lmao @ these prices. These must be REAAAAL good quality and must work for eons no doubt 😂. 5 stars surely

  • +2

Most bad reviews on JB are talking about software side of issue which can be fixed by using Amazon Stick, Google TV or Apple TV. I have not used this brand but under $1k for 85 inch TV - Unbelievable.

  • This is pretty much a slightly narrower double bed

  • Anyone know the energy usage (watts) on the 58 and 85?

The energy ratings website is a disgrace and has no hits….as does the Blaupunkt website.. These TVs dont exist.

    • From their website,

      • Cheers, but the 58?

85" at 380 watts is way too spicey for me. That's 10 x the power usage of our current TV.

        Also not seeing H265 support.

        • +1

As others have stated, not getting a Chromecast / Apple TV / whatever is stupid. You don't need h265 support.

          • @cooni: Only as stupid as including smart TV functionality on all TVs these days….that no one uses!
            Makes no sense.

  • Aldi will soon bring an Oled for the same price!

    • A cheapo brand 55 OLED at this price wouldn't be a bargain.

      • Oled aint all Oled: Make sure it is self lit and NOT backlit like Hisense!

        • Hm? Are you saying Hisense has an OLED TV that is backlit? Which model?

  • what's the latest on the correct way to transport big TV in cars? is the recommendation still having the TV upright?
