    Cashback excludes gst.. $5091.45

  • How does this compare to the G2?

    • -1

Bigger, by 2 inches. Cheaper too, JB selling 83"G2 for $8888

      • +9

Sony 83" is bigger than LG 83"?

        • +12

This is what I keep telling my wife, but she doesn't buy it…

      • +1

If you add an lg soundbar, cheapest one is $279 the. Will get 20% for both so tv will be $7110 and soundbar is $223.20.

    • +7

      Very similar.

Been a while since I’ve bothered looking, but:

      Sony:
      - better motion handling and colour reproduction

      LG:
      - slightly brighter in some HDR scenes
      - 4x full bandwidth hdmi 2.1

      • +4

Sony also comes with a stand.

      • You know LG make the screens Sony use?

        • +2

Not sure where you are going, but you are correct. LG Display do in fact manufacture the panels used in both the LG G3 and the Sony A90J.

But that doesn't mean they are identical… far from it.

They don't make the chipsets or processors used, which are responsible for some of the differences highlighted, and the A90j and G2 are two different generations, which is the reason for the other difference highlighted.

Similarly, Samsung Display make the panels that Sony use in their A95K, and yet the A95K and S95B from Samsung are also two different tvs with different features (eg. Dolby Vision support).

  • It’s a good price, may be update the post with the price after deducting the cashback

    • +16

Cashrewards should only be viewed as a nicety. Always a chance it doesn’t go through, so IMO should remain out of the title.

      • Okay, fair point

      • +4

Prices after cashback aren't allowed in titles anyway.

      • Wdym by 'a chance it doesnt go through '?

        • Wdym 'wdym'? Cashback from any rewards site like Cashrewards or Shopback is not a guarantee.

          • @Morien: I thought it was a guarantee if you meet the criteria?

            • +2

@Kammi: Had numerous times where cashback wasn't tracked so have given up. Good if you get it but I wouldn't be persuaded by the chance of a cashback.

            • +1

@Kammi: Nope, cashback can fail to track at times and Cashrewards/Shopback can turn around and say that since the sale didn't track the merchant won't pay them so they can't pay you.

            • @Kammi: There is always a chance it doesn't, and for a myriad of reasons. If you bought because of the Cashback you might be disappointed, and nobody is going to come and pay the fallout for you.

    • Did the cashrewards go through for anyone? I had to lodge a claim.

I also noticed after pulling the trigger that Amex was offering $100 cashback on Sony purchases.

Seems to still be a decent price, but could have been a great price :(

    This or 5 Blaupunkt TVs?

    • why not both?

    • +1

If you get 4 you can make one big 170 inch one

    • And then set up them 360 so you are surrounded by them?

  • I've been getting an error code trying to purchase from the Sony store the last few days (error code 201), anyone else having trouble or is it maybe my account/payment method playing up? Tried creating a new account too but didn't work.

I was shopping the the x90k and had this exact problem.

turns out it was my financial institution flagging the transaction as potentially suspicious and wanting to confirm. BUT, their SMS confirmation dialog is down because they're trying to lock down their systems because of a recent data breach. So, TLDR, the transaction was just failing because their system was waiting for a confirmation from me which never got sent.

luckily, I got in touch with my CC provider and managed to get to the bottom of it.

      • +1

        Was that Latitude?

        • I have a Latitude card so it seems so!

      • Thanks, the problem was with my 28 degrees card (tried using it directly and Paypal). I was able to process it using another CC. Was not getting the SMS confirmation messages either! Looks like I will have to give Latitude a call.

Will I become a master if I buy this?

    • +1

      Wait for the beta model.

    • Not if you have feelings of hate purchasing this TV

    This or tcl 75" ?

    • +2

This or s95b. I Mean come on.

  • +4

I personally have this one bough late nov 2022 during black friday sale for $5930 from gg and i love every moment of watching this tv so far in 5 months. If anyone want deep black and good picture quality plus sony’s better built, just go for it, now tv has been released 3yrs ago it was rrp $10490 and still no replacement so far for this model.

  • And to think my A80J 65" was low $3k. I know it's been a while since launch but this tv is still spectacular! Wish it was this price and had the space when I bought mine!

    • +2

      I actually ordered lg 65 inch g2 for $2950
Plus $175 for stand at good guys and that time this sony xr83a90j was $8999 something so the salesguy gave me $5930 was cost price and 5 months ago no one would gave me below $6500 for the tv. Plus got 2100mm stand brand new in box from hilco global auction as part of insurance salvage one won bid for $150, same stand sell still by hn for $1299)

My distance from sofa to tv is around 3m so good distance.

Im sure you made good decision with 65 inch sony oled it still good one.

    5k for a TV 🤔

    • Definitely a YOLO purchase! Or you're pretty wealthy and it's a small blip on your retirement plans.

    • bought 2 Panasonic Viera TH-P50VT20A in 2012 for $4200 down from 7k each so now its bigger and no 3D and yeah the Panasonic is still going unfortunately ;)

  • +2

I am not sure about Sony's warranty, but if you grab the LG OLED they warrant the screen for 5 years. Straight swap over in home if anything goes wrong with it. (Obviously not damage)
That is worth something if Sony is not the same.

  • Veering off topic, but what’s the safest maximum time to kick the screensaver in to prevent burn-in on these OLEDs? I sometimes come home and the binge home page has been sitting on the plasma for hours.

    • +2

Set it to min. Annoy your family. Better than them annoying you by ruining your fancy new tv.

  • Sony 83" (3 year old) vs LG 77" CS (Relatively newer)? Which one would you prefer?

    • Sony.

LG CS is a C1 panel with C2 processor.

  • What's the 10% cashrewards deal, has that expired?

    • Looks like it. Shopback has 8% though
