What works out cheaper long term? Buying 400 grams of Moccona instant coffee or buying a machine and brewing your own?

    • Buying Moccona is cheaper. It won't taste as good, but it will be cheaper.

    • Different products so you can’t compare.

It’s like saying what’s better, chicken breast or a processed chicken nugget.

I want to order Becs blend but i work with a person who is a super annoying. I hope this coffee isnt like her

  • FWIW - two quick picks mentioned on their website describing their master roaster's popular blends.. Full disclosure: never used them, not associated. Just as clueless as the rest. :)

    https://www.sopranocoffee.com.au/about/

Craig, our master roaster, has developed a superb range of blends to suit every taste. From the great all round coffee Mocha Supremo blend awarded multiple awards, to the award winning Caramella blend (of which the flavour was described by the international coffee roasting judges in Melbourne 2013 as "A rich, sweetness, full bodied, vanilla, almond and chocolate flavours push through the milk").

    • 'international coffee' read this as international roast

  • Hi, what are your recommendations for flat white/cappuccino/ milk based drinks? I usually like a medium roast. Thank you

    • Mocha and super cream are great ones.

  • +1

It is named after my wife, it is a beautiful blend

    Hi @Soprano Coffee Craig
When do you expect the orders to start shipping out?

    • +1

I just amended the description, about shipping.
We have been smashed on this offer, over 900 orders.
The first 300 will leave tomorrow and i expect the next 400 the day after.

      • Welcome to OzBargain. :)

    • All orders are now filled, last ones will be leaving monday.

  • Will be giving this a try. Thanks

  • Thanks for the deal. I have tried AirJo & LimeBlue. Let's see how this turns out.

    • Please drop some review, I have tried Airjo and Lime blue. But I have too much coffee atm and don’t want to stock more.

      • I will, I didn't like Airjo and Lime blue tbh. My favs have been Humbler blend from Proud Mary and 5 senses but both are way more expensive.
Nomcore coffee was alright when they had a deal too.

        • Yea Airjo isn’t the best, I second that. I haven’t tried Limblue yet though. Yea norm ore was on special, gonna try that next. Love all their espresso accessories lol

          • @Kahbo: Tried LimeBlue. Just average. If you put coffee made from Aldi beans and LimeBlue together, I dont think I can tell the difference.

            • @KaTst3R: When it comes to supermarket beans, I particularly liked Gypsy from Costco. Might not be as fresh, but the taste is one of a kind.. super chocolaty..

              • @Kahbo: Tried Gypsy before too. I think it is actually not bad for the price (i got it on sale under $20/kg pack). It is more chocolaty because it is a darker roast. I would put it slightly above Aldi beans.

One thing i note is that, Costco only sell dark roast coffee beans which is kinda strange. I prefer a medium roast personally.

                • @KaTst3R: Ouch.. then I won’t set high expectations for Limeblue as you rated it closer to Aldi beans. I’ve seen good comments about it in Ozb, hence hopper on the train. Which would you recommend to try?

                  • @Kahbo: So far all the OZB favourites are just so so. They are mostly just an average or slightly above average cup of joe. If you want exceptional coffee, get specialty coffee from popular places like 5 Senses, Single O, etc. Single O's 4 pack sampler (Blend Taster Box) is my current fav.

    • How's the coffee?

      • +1

Sorry totally forgot to leave my feedback with this coffee brand.
I ordered Soprano Mocha Supremo & Super Crema.

        :Comparision:

AirJo Sumatra - Not for me. Light. Not much crema.
AirJo Enterprise - Medium-dark roast. Good crema. Ok flavour.
Lime Blue Moments to Memories - Medium roast. Overall good interesting flavour. This is a blend of different beans (Arabica-Bourbon, Catuai , Caturra)
Soprano Super Crema - Dark roast. Very Good crema. Bold. Beans seems to be fresh roasted.

I try out these blends in a cafe (commercial coffee machine), without the customer knowing which brand used.

I did notice (and got feedback) that some customers seem to like the LB Moment blend.
Some customers liked the Soprano SC (if you like the bitter bold taste)
Next to try is the Soprano's Mocha Supremo.

I have to say all these (except Sumatra) are above Aldi/Vittoria/Lavazza coffee in my rating board, and are pricier than than supermarket coffee beans.

  • If anyone is ordering in Sydney CBD/Inner West, pm if keen to split 1kg.

  • Hi. Thanks for the deal. Which blends would you recommend for a Turkish style coffee after very fine blending?

  • Done.Looking forward to it

    • Delivered! Thank You!

    • Am I supposed to get a curious tingling at the ends of my fingers after drinking this gloriously rich coffee? Man it has some kick yet my latte is smooth as butter milk. Maybe it’s just me? You sure there are no mind altering substances included? Because my mood is altered… for the better * Sigh’s Happily * A new benchmark has been set in my home. Thank You Soprano’s. (Mocha Supremo)

  • Looks like can't buy anymore!! Out of stock

    • The deal is going to start again on Monday at about 11am, there is only 400 of the deal.

I have taken a few of the blends off the deal as we we were getting slowed down roasting that many varieties everyday.

All orders up to the 14/4 are now filled and last ones will leave on Monday.

      • Thanks for the note, I drink white coffee / cappuccino and understand that Super Mocha and super Crema are the one to go for, so hopefully they would be included on Monday!

  • +1

I have paused it until Wednesday so we can catch up with dispatch and then I will reopen the deal.
    Sorry.

    • G'day there. Wondering what you would recommend for making cold brew coffee?

  • +1

Just recieved the 2kg I ordered and was delighted to see it was roasted only 2 days ago, thanks Craig!

  • They use aramex for delivery 😢

  • Waiting to restart the deal.

Is it Out of stocks now? i cant find

    • They have paused new orders until Wednesday due to the backlog of orders. See recent comment from the rep

  • Received Forte & Nicarguan just now and had tired Nicarguan on pour over. I kinda regret purchasing them and will probably give it away to some of my coffee lover friends to try this multi-awarded coffee ☕️.

    • Why don't you like it?

      • It has won bronze and silver award back in 2019 but it’s very average. I guess it’s truly you pay what you get.

        • -1

Was it fresh? Did we all scam ourselves through the herd mentality?

  • I have been roasting madly everyday, it is very fresh and all orders are now filled and last ones will leave on Monday.

  • +1

    • Good idea as predictability is a must with bean delivery. It's impractical to buy two days worth elsewhere to cover the gap over what is standard by the usual suspects on here, and coffee headaches without.

  • -1

I was keen to give your beans a go however trying to buy wholes beans and all are all sold out?

  • Yes, the deal is starting again Monday at 11am.

We had nearly 1000 orders come in and I had to pause to offer so we could dispatch all current orders.

  • This is active again now if anyone wants to order, 399 left.

  • Thanks ordered SUPER CREMA & MOCHA SUPREMO, 379 left.

  • Sophie's blend is great, it's strong but smooth. I'm not a coffee snob but see it has similar notes I enjoy from a local coffee shop who charges $70/kg. Will definitely be buying again!

  • OP - Tried the beans and they are amazing! Will be definitely coming back for more once I go through these 2kg, and hopefully there will be this same promo running again.

  • Thank you for the great feedback.

  • +3

Keen to try these. Gosh aramex are a horrible courier. Received into the local depot on the 14th. Still no update outside of the delivery being delayed. I was hoping that Aramex had improved but it seems not. I dare say it'll sit in the depot for another week before moving if past experience is anything to go by.

    • I totally agree. I was delivered items from this company twice this month, which was so disappointing. All items I bought were in Sydney and it took them one week to deliver.

    • I freak when I see Aramex. Have even told one vendor to LMK when you change and I'll be back.

So I got "Shipped" from Soprano on Friday.

      Then Aramex's tracking:

Mon 8:30am: "Missed collection - no one there"
      Mon 12pm: "Collected"
Mon 9pm: "Received at local depot" - but infographic on same page (!) shows truck midway between depots
Wed early morning: tracking number no longer found (no mistake)
Wed now: tracking number found again, still same status as Monday 9pm.

    • Aramex is an absolute nightmare in Western Sydney. I apparently “missed” the coffee delivery on last Friday when I was WFH all day. They left a collection card for a parcel point but turns out it got returned to the depot and had to be arranged for redelivery today. Aramex did not turn up today so now I have no idea if they even attempted delivery. Would have been easier if the driver just put in a little more effort and left it at my local collection point which is a newsagency….

The last time I had an Aramex parcel delivery, it got stolen as it was apparently “authorised to be left” and took me 6 months to get reimbursed.

I hope my beans are still nice and fresh eventually when I get them :( have been out of beans for a week

  • Just received the coffee today! Is it just me or when I smell the coffee I get an eggy or buttery smell from it, not what I expected. I ordered mocha and becs blend

    • Likely still too fresh. I just received mine, roasted Friday (the fresher the better for vacuum freezing) but made a mocha - crema nearly overflow the shot glass. Few days more I think.

  • Thank you OP. Ordered SUPER CREMA & MOCHA SUPREMO on Monday 17/4 mid day, received beans nicely packed today Wed 19/4 AM in Sydney, very fast delivery by Aramex.
Will try the beans in couple of days when finish my current stock.

    • I might move to your area. Aramex left my beans out on the letterbox in the sun an arms length from the public walkway, just like they did the last two times with $2k archery bows.

      • +1

That is no good… I am happy to provide my address to you to deliver your next purchases :)

  • If you are having issues tracking your parcel via my website link, please go https://www.aramex.com.au/tools/track/
Sorry about the inconvenience, roasting is my strong point not It, it is an issue with my website provider when I upload the tracking in bulk.

  • Ordered on Tuesday and received today. Thanks for the fast delivery.

Just wondering if I can put a bag in the freezer until I'm nearly finished with the first bag?

    • How long 1 kg bag last in your place?.
They say you can freeze beans in airtight containers/bags and take out to defrost (to be consumed in a week). If you freeze the entire bag and keep opening it up multiple time, then you allow moister in the bag and it is not good for the beans.

      • I'd like to keep the unopened bag in the freezer and take out to defrost for a few days then I'll open and store in an airtight container while using. 1kg usually lasts around 1 month for me

  • So only 1 person so far wasn't a fan? Everyone else rate the beans?

    • +2

Personally I've found Becs started to get nice from yesterday (latte), a week past roast, so a bit early to rate yet. Too scared to try espresso this fresh.

Mocha was too fresh when I tried it about 5 days post roast, but just from today is coming good.

Never quite understand why those owning roastery cafes don't publish their extraction parameters, as a starting point.

    • +3

Not happy. Received the Sophie's blend and noticed all the beans are burnt with clear torched marks on each bean.

Haven't had beans roasted like this before.

Flavours are what you'd expect, harsh and bitter. None of the notes described "caramel, honey, biscuity, honey-dew melon etc."

      https://imgur.com/a/FOkpOco

      • I've never seen any medium like these either, but admittedly I haven't seen everything.

Giving them a chance to develop as just from day 5 to day 8 I'm seeing big changes. Ultimately it gets down to whether I like them or not as to whether I reorder.

I did drop brew temp down from 93 to 88 though and pulled shorter (as dark roasts benefit from) - as likewise, the first Mocha was noticeably ashy - even through milk.

Similar bean charring, all four I ordered darker than your image (but hard to go by images due to camera and monitor). Touch darker than dark here", but Caramello, Mocha and Sophie oil flecks, and Becs more than just flecks. Unlike that image, I wouldn't call them dark though. just more towards dark than medium.

      • +1

Just opened a bag of Sophie's and it's terrible. Just tastes like horrible burnt coffee. I've tried coarser grind and less hot water on my V60 but no joy. I think I'm going to have to discard the beans.

    • Not a fan either, beans are oily.

  • I’m sad there’s no delayed shipping but willing to give this a try.

Are the beans ethically sourced? I couldn’t find any info on the website.

  • my god, i hate aramex with the fire of a thousand suns. ordered on the 10th for delivery to Adelaide, order picked up from sydney on the 14th, and the only piece of tracking info was in fking Perth on the 21st, with no ETA on when it'll actually get here.

  • Ended up ordering, process was fine and beans arrived down to Melbourne within 5-6 days.
I opened a bag of mocha suprema on 22/04 and the first thing I noticed was the beans are oily. Have never seen this before. Is it a sign of over-roasting? Date on the bag says 14/04.

    • They have been roasted substantially darker than the other Mediums we're used to from the 5 or 6 regular roasters on here. For a 2 kg minimum order from a first time roaster poster, predictability is key.

I'm finding them reasonably enjoyable now so haven't negged the deal, but I had sink shot about 300g trying to dial them in and still didn't get splits worked out after about 700g. Fortunately guests have left now so I can get back to 18g which I have got extracting nicely.

  • which one is the award winning beans? i want to order that one.

    • If you go to the product page of each beans you will find out.

      • -7

never mind too difficult. thanks for not helping.

        • This is exactly why you shouldn't answer questions when the poster can find out themselves. Don't reply, neg the comment! No time for Gen Lazy.

          • -2

@Gav: not all of us are young and computer scientist, so we ask hoping someone would help. yet you took the effort to comeback with no answer. you could have used the same effort and found the information and then posted it. i don't like members like you that are too high and mighty to help the elderly. kid from the past respected not only there elders but everyone without judgement.

  • +1

I'm sorry, but I can only recommend these blends to people who enjoy starbucks coffee/very dark roasts..

Mochha is super dark+oily, and incredibly ashy as someone else said.
Sophie is better, but still an initial hit of ash.

    • +4

Just opened a bag of Sophie's and it's terrible. Just tastes like horrible burnt coffee. I've tried coarser grind and less hot water on my V60 but no joy. I think I'm going to have to discard the beans. Never buying from these folks ever again

      • +1

Yep, basically what I didn't have the heart to say.

    • +1

It's probably a good case study for vendors using the "award winning" line.

E.g. Mocha was indicated as winning multiple awards on their website. I'd hope that's true, but the 2019 Sydney Fine Food show where Sophie's and Bec's got awards it came dead last in the class it entered (4). Super Crema not far off last. Half the entrants got Gold, Silver or Bronze, Sophie's the last of the Silvers, Bec's the last of the Bronzes (Results)

Also not fond of the "at wholesale prices" line as that makes a public price. Not our concern if businesses don't get a discount.

  • +4

I have tried the decaf and other bag I got. They are both awful. Burnt and lacking taste of good coffee with no aroma at all. Not to order again

  • Just started using the beans, they are way too oily. Struggling in my burr grinder. I'm sure the burr set will need to be taken out and cleaned and I'm sure there will be heaps of grind deposits everywhere.

    Disappointed to say the least.

    Back to Sensory Lab.

  • +2

Beans are super oily, bitter and not at all smooth. Not what I expected, don't think I'd be buying again at half this price.

  • I hate to waste beans and have no grinders needing seasoning to use them, so will just continue to rescue with Coles Barista Almond milk. It has it has an overly strong vanilla flavour normally that de-ashifies these.

Will head out to get some more beans today (at cafe prices) as I won't serve them to guests on the weekend.

  • I've been pretty happy with the beans. First bag was the Mocha beans. Dark, chocolatey and pretty smooth on my end. Can't wait to try the super creama bag.

  • Just finished both, want to order more for sure. Any deal?

    • Agree, would order if another deal popped up
