Can anyone vouch for this eBay store?

    • +69

Two of the sons are upright and trustworthy individuals, while the third one has a questionable reputation.

      • +13

Can confirm. Have heard good things about the two sons, but the third…. I heard he doesnt like puppies.

      • I went to school with the third son. He was always a bit of an (profanity).

    • +4

I'd be slightly hesitant to buy from them based on their eBay feedback score (96.7%) and assuming the related stores is accurate: previous deals, off-site reviews for Sky Phonez.

This quote from the listing also seems a bit dodgy:

Disclaimer. We can not guarantee that the information on this page is 100% correct.

They also engage in the dodgy listing practice that is ruining eBay - "Charging Dock Station Only" for $234.

      • +3

I got my deck from them. No problems whatsoever. However wouldn't buy the dock it's a ripoff. I would just buy some 3rd party one

        • Same here

      • +1

I'm currently in a dispute with them on Ebay. They sent me a UK Nintendo Switch, which Nintendo Australia say isn't covered by their warranty I've asked to lodge a return, they said that's fine, however we will charge you a 'restocking fee of 15-20%'.

The listing didn't say it was a grey import.

I've basically informed them that is unacceptable, and if they don't accept the refund I will be complaining to Ebay.

My advice, stay away from three brothers.

        • I had the same issue. Was sent a HK switch but no mention of it being a grey import in the ad. I've also requested a return and refund. Send me a message and we can compare notes if you want. I tried to message you but i don't think your PM's are turned on.

          • +1

@ozbd: I lodged a complaint direct with ebay. They told me the three sons are wrong and issued me a label, assuring i would get a full refund one returned. Just request help from ebay support the three sons can't be trusted here and will only issue you partial refund.

    • +4

The third and youngest brother, who was the most humble and wise, did not trust Death and asked for something to enable him to go forth without Death being able to follow. A reluctant Death, most unwillingly, handed over his own invisibility cloak.

Death searched for the youngest brother as years passed but never succeeded. It was only when the third brother reached a great age, he took off the Cloak of Invisibility and gave it to his son. Greeting Death as an old friend, they departed this life as equals.

      • Sounds like something from Discworld.

    • three.somes' eBay shop had a Steam D*ck :(

    • I bought one. Hopefully it turns up. They've sent several messages telling me it will be sent.
In the description it says same day dispatch and I'm now at day 3.

      • Did you end up getting yours? Mine took 2 days to ship but was with me the day after. :)

    • +1

I just bought a Nintendo switch from them and they sent me a grey import with a UK power brick. I guess you expect this with the Valve Steam deck, but I'm furious that the Nintendo Switch is a grey import. It wasn't mentioned in the listing

  • +3

Very tempted, might cancel the one I bought from pcbyte, since it still hasn't been shipped and it's been 3 weeks.

    • Exact same thoughts, that's a worry if it's been that long. I only ordered last week

  • +2

I bought my SD from three sons and no issue at all. Very fast shipping.

  • +2

Even when it comes here it will be something like 699$. Also don't forget rog ally is announced. Ill wait for that

    • +4

      If I am not wrong Rog Ally not gonna be available until end of the year or the way thing are for Australia, we might not get it till late next year. {logitech g cloud and razer edge still not available }

      • Well I hope Asus cares more about Australia than valve does. I'll assume they also have better supply chain logistics

    • +8

Personally, I wouldn't bother with RoG ally. Their specs decision are wild. Double the van gouh chip at 32w? 120hz at 1080p? Basically all bleeding edge, with no other way to supplement the cost. It's gonna cost more than what even Aya and Gpd would charge.

      • +1

I think the Rog is a big leap over any handheld console on the market. It's looks to be around twice the steam decks performance where as the ayaneo is closer to 1.5

        • +1

I'm personally wary of that claim. The best APU currently road mapped is 780m, which is rdna3 version of 680m and rdna3 have not proven to be 50% ipc improvement. The most prominent example is the 710m, which is performing at vega 3 level with only 2 CU. Impressive, but not that much.

And, even if the claim is true, it's going to be a 60 to 80 fps 720p device, or 60fps 900fps device with dips, locked on a 1080p screen.

    • +9

I wouldn't put the ROG ally in the same league as the steam deck.

Yeah their both portable gaming hand held, but the ROG is going to be so expensive! I wouldn't be surprised if it gets over au$2000.

Remember, the steam deck is priced so well not only because of its perfect balance between performance and necessity (i.e. not needing 1080p for a handheld), but it's also priced so well because they can literally run at a loss on it if they need to.
ROG will only get money off of you once with the sale of the unit….but steam, they will get consistent long term sales via their steam store, so they can lower margins on the steam deck if they need to(a bit like the "give the razor and sell the blades" concept).

      • -1

You're forgetting asus is one of the largest producer or laptops in the world, that 'should' translate into at least some cost savings in manufacturing compared to Valves efforts. Whether those savings are passed on, is another story.

        • +2

i'm not forgetting that, i just don't think those savings will bring it down in price as much as you may think. like…also keep in mind that any "ROG" product that asus makes also has an addition "ROG tax", which will easily make those cost savings irrelevant.

We arent talking about some cheap office grade PC or laptop

    • It looks good, but I expect that it will be double the price of this at least.

  • +2

Does anyone think the new rog ally is gonna be a competition to the steam deck, all the reviewers said like its a deck killer, honestly the screen and aesthetic is pretty nice, but considering its rog it’s gonna cost at least double the price of a steam deck. And it’s essentially just a aya or oneplayer clone by ASUS.

    • +10

Yeah, devices with the new 6800u are like $1800 in China so once the ROG gets off the boat with GST and the 'Australia Tax' I'd guess it would be $2k+. Plus I think the optimisation of the Steam Deck is big in its favour since Valve seem to want to perfect it rather than upgrade it every year with new CPUs.

      • +1

Yeah and the fact that none of the reviews have any idea on the price is rather concerning.

      • +3

the Aya Neo Geek is a 6800U and it's $1699 here in aus, both JB and Big W

      • one of them was around $1k aud on kickstarter.

    • I think it'll definitely be more expensive, it is going to be quicker as it's based on the new AMD architecture, i'd say they'll be running the 7800U and it looks promising, i do like the fact it runs windows (mainly because i have game pass ultimate),you'll be able to dock it with external GPU but that's proprietary and will probably cost some ridiculous amount … i'm more tempted by that than this but i can't see it costing the same, they have said they want to be competetive pricing wise with Valve but we'll see…

    • 650 USD starting price maybe. Must be less than 800 USD if they really want to compete steam deck

      • +1

There's no way the Ally is coming in that cheap. Not only are the specs significantly better than the Deck, but Valve can make money off Steam store purchases, ASUS can't.

        • According to dave2d they assured him price would be competitive

          • @DrScavenger: Competitive to other 6800U holders, I think!

          • @DrScavenger: Competitive to a switch? Yea I think they meant competitive to specs equiv products. Thee Ally is will be well over $1500 at the very cheapest

    • I'm more wary that they're still gauging interest instead of releasing a product. That tells me that they haven't even decided what market segment they want to be yet.

I'm also wary of the claim of double the power if van gouh. Amd never announced a 16 core rdna 3 device yet, so I'm not even sure what kind of APU are they using to give beyond 7840hs performance, which is only 60% faster. If it's a custom chip, they would've said that in the talking point.

    • +1

It will most definitely be better in every way except QA. I've had Asus Rog phones, motherboards and other stuff which has all been good but there are always small problems with them that are extremely annoying.

  • +2

If it does get an actual local announcement, then thanks for your sacrifice.

    • +3

Oh it'll probably happen don't you worry. I've been waiting to buy a meta quest for months. Got one the other day and the very next day oculus discounted it by $70 or $80. Just shook my head.

      • +1

Hope your brand new headset didn't fall off.

  • +4

FWIW awesome device, even at this price. I purchased from Kogan after an absolute nightmare Expansys debacle (Took 2 months to get my money back) Kogan does cop a lot of grief here and rightly so, however arrived within a few days and they forgot to supply a charger which they quickly resolved. As for the 64gb, its pretty pointless. Gives you a couple games at most. Be prepared to upgrade to a 512 or 1tb nvme ASAP (it uses 2230 nvme so do your research on availability/pricing, I bought a WD from Ali Express). Upgrade process is very simple. Prob voided my warranty doing that anyway :P If you are into retro gaming this is probably the current best device for a handheld.

    • even a wii u game is only around 4gb. 64 gb is plenty for many users

      • I'll throw in a 512gb micro sd card. I think you can get them for around $70. That'll do me at least for a while.

        • You can also hot swap sd cards pretty easily lol.

        • Sure you can do that. Performance would be pretty sluggish on most steam games. I have a couple of sd cards for emulation tho works great ! but as @smoothcactus mentioned below OS and shader cache…. goodbye 64gb.

      • +3

The os takes a bunch. 64gb is not enough for anyone especially after shader caches and this is a hill i will die on.

        • Move to SD, symlink. Problem solved.

        • i havent had any issues yet and been playing for 2 months but ok

  • What would warranty be like ordering from here? Just 12 months?

    • Everything bought in Australia is covered by Australian Consumer Law.

  • OP, please purchase x100 so we can get local stock :D

    • +1

Nah just got the one this time around. Left the rest for all you guys. :) Don't worry though, now that i've purchased there's a good chance it'll be available locally by this time next week. :P

  • +2

You guys seen the new ASUS Portable? Will be available in Aus upon release, curious to see pricing looks pretty sweet!

Nevermind talked about above already : D

    • Aus on release is a bit rich

  • Waiting for the Asus one instead.

  • +1

Hoping EBs or JB start selling SD soon…..!

  • I'd imagine most people who buy the 64GB edition will want to get a 128/256gb NVME soon after due to them being faster (the 64gb version is eMMC (which is basically a fastSD card, not even at SSD speeds) and being able to store more games. You should probably factor this into the price, keep in mind the standard m2 NVMEs that we see for sale here aren't compatible, you need the smaller (and more expensive) size.

    • Not really, since these devices are not that suited for games that gets majorly impacted by load speed. That's why most of us just runs stuff off of sd card. Its boot speed is not as important due to quick resume.

But yes, you'll need a 2230 m.2 nvme. I do think that it's gonna come down in price by next year due to steam deck popularising the size.

    • +2

For the price of the 512 model from resellers you can get a 64gb model, 1tb ssd, a 1tb MicroSD card and an anti-glare screen protector.

You can also blow the money you saved on even more Steam games you'll never play.

      • Maybe I'll play them one day when I have time

  • +4

For anyone that is interested. I messaged the seller before i made this purchase this morning asking about warranty. Just got this reply. The reply is good enough for me. Amazon or maybe a local computer store might be better but for me this will do fine.

"Thank you for doing business with us.

The device holds 12 months of seller warranty and in case if you face any issues then you can contact us and we will be happy to assist you accordingly.

    Regards,
    Peter"

    • AFAIK, ACL should also apply.

      • I agree with that. I just wanted to at least get confirmation with the 12 month part first. But yeah if anything happens after the first year i'll definitely press them on it. Now i just need to work out what i'm going to put on it. :)

    • +1

Warranties and being able to enforce the warranty are two different things however..

  • At this supposedly discounted price, 128GB should be the bare minimum and the awful 64GB config should be put to the scrap heap. What does Steam think its manufacturing? A PS Vita? lol

    • +5

Considering it is easy to upgrade or expand, it makes sense. Why pay more for a 128GB eMMC or SSD that you'll just replace anyway?

    • Grabbed mine for 700 and slapped in a 1tb SSD to 150. Was easy as with a tutorial video.

  • +1

Purchased mine from this eBay store in Jan. no issues at all, fast delivery and included au power adapter

    • Awesome. Great to hear that!

    • What adapter if I can ask? A generic convertor which uses the existing one included in the box or a separate standalone?

  • good price, have 2% perkbox ebay coupon, will get price down to 730
ready to pull the trigger, question, is this sealed/unopened?

    • Read some reviews, a few mentioned theyre sealed/unopened

  • Ok. Bit the bullet. Fingers crossed!

  • +3

By the time valve releases this here, 90%of people will have one already 😂

  • $427 for a switch or this?

    • -3

Nintendo switch has better games and cheaper. A child will drop and break a steam deck

      • I'm leaning Nintendo for the games.

      • +3

Nintendo switch has better games and cheaper.

        … Debatable

        • Every game available on the switch works very very well. Can't be said for even a fraction of a percent of the games available on steam.

          • @onlinepred:

Every game available on the switch works very very well.

Yes, as devs have made sure to optimise their Switch titles for the Switch hardware.

What's your point though? The Steam Deck is still considerably more powerful and capable than the Switch, and will run the majority of games out there. None are capped at 30fps and will easily exceed it, unlike a lot of Switch titles. Can't expect the SD to run new titles like TLOU on high graphics and get good performance, it's not like the Switch could either. The SD is close to a PS4 in terms of capabilities. The Switch is over 6yrs old at this point. The hardware between the two is no where close to each other, though both will deliver satisfactory experiences depending on the titles being played.

            • @CrispyChrispy: Nintendo switch has better games and cheaper.

              … Debatable

My point is that many games CAN run in SD, but sometimes the controls are poorly optimised and the graphics have issues even at recommended SD settings. All switch games plug in and play perfectly with the device and controls.

For sure the steam deck CAN run many more games, but the experience is average at best, even if the graphics are better.

    • +1

Honestly, it depends on what you want to play. If it's nintendo exclusive then it's a no brainer to go Switch. But if it's multi-platformed games like witcher 3, doom, then I would recommend this. For one, those games on switch are very expensive ($50 atleast) compared to Windows (around $15 usually). Also much better graphics here.

      • +1

Tough call. Zelda on hand held is gonna be lit

Emulation on Steam deck is possible :)

But if you already know you won't really play PC games and you're keen on playing only Switch games it's worth having a more light weight and power efficient device for gaming.

          • @daniesaurs: Both devices are definitely appealing. Switch just has that unrivalled first part exclusive allure XD

            • +2

@Budju: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is coming out soon and emulation on Steam deck won't be there yet so if that's something you're after I think it's worth picking one up

  • I waited too long and now the 64GB one is out of stock. Hope there is a similar one for $760 soon

    • +3

Press start shared this post on their website and facebook page. Probably got a few buyers from there unfortunately.

  • I impulse bought, then tried to cancel order then messaged them to ignore my cancellation request.

At this stage I think it is a toss of a coin which way it goes!

    • why you want to cancel the order?

what do you actually want to buy instead?

      • what do you actually want to buy instead?

        A Nintendo Switch.

        /s

      • what do you actually want to buy instead?

        Playdate

      • Steam Deck is the option for me, but just impulse bought and then felt bad!
