this seems like a very very good deal?

Not particularly I would say, unless you place a lot of value on the x1 build/form factor and low weight — which to be fair some do.

      • +1

Yeah that's mostly what I'm talking about. I guess these are a bit cheaper now than when I was looking but these were quite a lot more expensive a few months ago.

place a lot of value on the x1 build/form factor and low weight

To be fair, the build and weight are probably the most important considerations when buying any laptop, unless you have a specific spec-requirement like gaming.

        • I kind of agree, but personally I wouldn't mind the extra 300g of something like this in exchange for better spec and a lower price. 1.3kg and an all metal build is still fine in my books, and there are plenty of machines that fit that bill for less.

The battery life on these are terrible - power hungry CPU and small chassis and battery.

  • how does this go in gaming?

      Gon't

      • Gamn't

    • it doesn't

    • I mean the Iris Xe graphics aren't terrible, really does depend on what you're trying to play, but don't expect to run any recent AAA games. Thermals won't be good either.

    octa-channel ?

    no rtx 4060 ?

  • Any feedback on shoppingexpress.com.au ? r they reliable?

    • +2

Very. There has been many deals from them and their ebay page.
I personally have found them to dispatch very quickly too.

If only they made an AMD X1 nano…

    • Maybe they might make a "Z1" (since Z is for AMD).

  • We have a Dell laptop at work with the i5-1240P CPU. When connected to a USB-C monitor that supplies 65W power, the display signal keeps cutting out unless you also plug in the 65W Dell charger. We have other nearly identical laptops with an ultralow voltage CPU that don't have this issue. So yeah, very power hungry CPU.

      Could be a Dell issue.
I've had lots of trouble with Dell laptops being picky on charger.
Heck I've got a Dell Deck which works smoothly with ThinkPad and Acer, but refuses to work with certain Dell laptops. All USB C and similar spec.
