They stopped it for the last 2 years and only recently brought it out again. India Times

    • +10

Still worth knowing about. Can turn a layover into a mini holiday.

      • +3

Absolutely. We did it with the children and booked into the airport hotel and had a swim for a ten-hour layover many years ago. We went to Sentosa and there was a little time for the children to go on the beach. They still remember it.

You’re just one ray of sunshine aren’t ya..?

  • This tour was not operating last December when we travelled through Singapore. Has it returned back

    • +4

      Yes

  • Good to know

  • +10

3hrs is too much to tour whole of Singapore

    • Epic

    • Spicy.

    • +2

Depends on your interests. Lots of WW2 history to see if that's your thing i.e. Fort Siloso, Changi Prison, Former Ford Factory.

    • +6

or perhaps it's not long enough. better than sitting around at the airport for 3+ hours. i once chose a 13 hour layover so i could take an mrt downtown and walk around stuffing myself with delicious food.

  • +8

When I went a few years back they had two different tours. We were lucky enough to do both & I highly recommend them. They were brilliant!

    • +3

I have a query. Do we need to take our check-in luggage along with us?

      • +1

        No

        • Thanks

      • +1

Transit, thus your check-in baggage automatically goes from arrival plane to departing plane.
If you have a connection that doesn't have check-through baggage (e.g. arriving LCC, clear customs, collect baggage, check-in 2nd leg on FSC), then you can't do this free tour

        • Or you can store your bag at Jewel.

    • +7

One 'trip' used to be a ride on a bumboat, can't remember what the other one was.

The tour guide talked on a microphone as we went along on the bus, she jokingly said that after 5 minutes on these tours everyone falls asleep and she ends up talking to herself - having a bit of a look around she wasn't too far wrong. lol

  • What… else to tour

  • Thanks OP good to hear

Try to get a couple of nights layover in Singapore. Great country/city to explore, albeit a little expensive.

    • Try to get a couple of nights layover in Singapore. Great country/city to explore,

I used to live there back when it was an exciting place to be, but now it's just one gigantic shopping mall. It's up there with Dubai for most boring cities in the world to visit.
I'd give it a miss and try KL, or Bangkok instead if you're looking for a transit stopover

      • +7

KL has better food than Singapore too!

        • +1

I always say when I'm transiting through SE Asia on someone else's money I choose Singapore.
When I am travelling on my own money I choose KL.

      • any reccomendations for KL of things to do? planning a trip to SIn and KL

    • +6

Ridiculously expensive now. With the bad exchange rate, accommodation was the real killer. Food can still be cheap if you eat at hawker center etc but everything else made my stopover a few days ago very pricey.

      • +2

Absolutely horribly expensive, just had our HCM trip and stay over 1 night in Singapore for 3 of us in a tiny prison like room for A$260 and no breakfast include! with a super sh|t exchange rate now, really want to go there for another week, but not worth it anymore …

      • Arrived back from Singapore this morning after 5 nights there and can agree. But overall still a good trip for the family for the start of the school holidays.

    • it's so expensive now, crap exchange rate and limited (plus expensive) accomodation. Ended up crossing border to JB for a few days, way better.

      • JB is more fun anyway. I spent so much time just feasting in JB when I was in Singapore.

        • Yeah it was nice, minus the immigration part

  • +9

I did not know this existed when I visited - thanks for the post will recommend it to colleagues.

There is just so much on offer when you visit Changi - free movie cinema, kids play areas, topside walks through the airport.

These tours look like icing on the cake, especially the city sights and heritage tours if you can make the time.

    Thanks for the post.

  • Anyone know whether singapore airlines offer any transit hotel for more than 8hrs. similar to Srilankan or Royal brunei etc. Thanks

    • +1

No they don't. You have to DIY it.
There are a few options air side and land side

    • I didn’t know that Sri Lankan Airlines offered that! Is this for all hubs?

    • +1

They don't need to. Grab a free sleeping chair at Changi and you're good to go!

      • +1

They don't need to because it is super quick and easy to actually pass through customs and immigration, catch a cab, and be in a hotel.
I managed to go from the plane to my hotel room in less than thirty minutes last December.

    • There's a nice one at the Jewel now

  • Was in Singapore 2 weeks ago and this wasn't available (or at least I failed to find the link). :sigh:

    • It's only just started up again.

  • +2

I did it last time I was there (2019 I think?) - Was actually pretty decent. Obviously its a small snippet of the city, but given you can freely leave the airport and get back in without going through immigration again fully, it's well worth killing a few hours :)

    • Do you know if they stamp your passport,
when you go on these tours ?

      • +1

I think so If memory serves

      • +2

        They don’t stamp passports anymore

  • They seem to have removed the evening tour.

  • +5

    No Geylang tour?

    • +1
      No geylang no Singapore

  • +1

I think your passport need to be eligible for VISA on arrival in order to do this. Please consider that if anyone planning to do this. It is a very good tour.

  • Does the tour photo stop allow for passengers to get off, and maybe buy some food from a nearby hawker stall etc?

  • +1

We're flying to Europe trough Singapore and I bought tickets with 5 hours layover in Changi thinking of exploring airport itself (never been before). Only later I've realised that we will land 9:25 PM and our flight to UK will leave 2:20 AM next day.

Now I'm worried everything will be closed and there will be nothing to do for 5 hours?

    • Most things will only close around 11pm or midnight, but there's still heaps to do at Changi so you won't have any problems! Worst case walk over or take the skytrain to the Jewel and hang out there for a couple of hours :-)

      • Thank you, good to know!

    • 5-hours between flights, is essentially 3-hours only
(because you need about 1-hour on either side,
just to get in/out of the airplane or airport)

So, 3+ hours inside the best Airport in the world, is very easy.

  • was there ever late afternoon tours? If so, do you think they will bring it back?

  • +1

Are there any thing similar for Singapore Zoo while in transit?

I am reaching Singapore at night 11pm.
I got 20hrs transit time and wanted to visit the Zoo….
But I am not sure if 20hrs is enough with kids.
My next flight is 8pm, next day.

    Thanks.

    • +2

I think you will be OK. Singapore is very small and their taxi is cheap. so if you are only planning to go to the Zoo you will be more than enough time. I think you might even have time to visit Aquarium too if you do it real quick (and depends how old are ur kids).

    • +1

You know that all zoos are the same - giraffes, elephants, snakes, meerkats, blah blah blah. The botanical gardens and check out and dream of staying at the fancy hotel with the infinity pool are the only thing worth doing. And its free to wander around them.

  • +1

The tour was quite boring from my memory, because they have pre-determint locations to visit and there is no food or drinks at these dedeciated location.

Anyone been to their recent tour? I would like to know if the tour has changed.

    • +1

you probably better off doing you own thing I'd say, can easily taxi around for cheap.

  • It is free!
Waiting time to book can be hours.
Then depending on layover time there are more hours to wait.
    Free bus into town.
Because of thunderstorm we had to return to airport without seeing anything.
Only good thing is if you actually fly Sinair you get a S$20 voucher that is also valid past customs where you get more for it.

  • +1

Changi Airport alone can take a day to explore. It's fantastic. Thanks OP for the heads-up. We are transitting in August so this will be very handy.

  • I want to see the Singapore I saw on Singapore Social.

  • You can only book 5 months in advance? Does anybody know if there are any blockout days for this service (eg: new year's eve, new year, xmas, etc)

  • Does this tour need a Singapore tourist visa? for Aussies?
