    Holy shit, 2TB PCIe Gen4 for $160…

    • +5

It's PCIe Gen4 interface, but the read/write speed are Gen3.

    • Just for reference I paid $179 for the pny model that has double the read/write speeds. I'd say that's a better deal at $20 more.

      • From where? Link?

Hi Mate, it was from JW i picked it up as they have a store near by. I think the deal is over but i'm sure it'll pop up again with the current SSD pricing.

          JW

Also it didnt come with a heatsink lol but that was ok with me

    What is the TBW?

    • +3

TBW, or total bytes written, is a metric (typically in terabytes) assigned to storage drives that tell you how many terabytes you can write to the drive over its warranty period before the memory cells within it begin to degrade and the possibility of data loss and entire drive failure increases. At that point, its recommendable to replace the drive, as your data on it is no longer as safe as it once was.

800 TBW for this SSD: https://www.pny.com.tw/en/download/CS2140/

    • some sites say 1200 some say 800 trying to find out also

Looking forward to another OzB classic, completely asinine discussion about TBW

If you need to ask, I promise it's enough for you.

  • Waiting for Gen 4 drives at proper Gen 4 speeds (not expecting top tier ofc) at or below this price.

    Im not crazy am I?

    • if you can wait, it will always be cheaper and you will get more storage!

had to upgrade the wifes new laptop and move on though! :)

    • just wait. no rush

  • would the speeds be around the 3000 mark still if used in a Laptop that only supports PCie 3?

I'd be wary with these drives. I built two computers for work with the 2 x 4TB version. They had amazing speed for the first ~20% of the capacity, after that they dropped off the cliff in terms of performance. Apparently it's fairly common with various high capacity NVME drives. Makes them look great in some benchmarks but terrible performance after that.

If you care about sustained write speed (which I did for my use case) go with a better brand.
