Hey Oz Bargain Community,

If you're flat chat, feel free to skip to the bold writing below :)

We were so thrilled to see how quickly our Kenya trifecta party options have flown out the door. The Kenya Peaberry sold out the same day we launched it. Our Kenya Washed and Carbonic Maceration Single Origins have been received incredibly well too, so we've only got a relatively small amount still available.

The time has come to say goodbye for now to our rotating featured Kenya Nyeri Washed and Carbonic Maceration Natural Jasper Single Origin coffees, so we can get ready to feature new rotating Single Origins (more exciting things in the works), as such we've decided to launch a deal to farewell these wonderful SO :)

As there's not too much of our Kenya Nyeri Washed or Carbonic Maceration Natural Jasper Single Origins remaining, we've decided to also offer a discount on our crowd favourite Moments to Memories Blend.

We're offering you a 40% discount off Kenya Nyeri Single Origin + Moments to Memories and 25% off Kenya Carbonic Maceration Single Origin + Hario Smart G Handy Electric Grinder, see details below:

1) Kenya Nyeri Carbonic Maceration Natural Jasper Single Origin, only $13.50 per 200g (usually $18 per 200g), and $27 per 400g (usually $36 per 400g)

2) Moments To Memories Blend, only $14.55 per 500g (usually $24.25 per 500g), and $25.50 per 1kg (usually $42.50 per 1kg)

3) NOW SOLD OUT Kenya Nyeri Washed Single Origin, only $16.30 per 500g (usually $27.17 per 500g). Only available in 500g packaging increments to ensure we don't sell more than we have in stock. Of course, you can order more than 500g by increasing the quantity on the cart page

4) As our Kenya Carbonic Maceration Single Origin is exclusively available in whole bean form we're offering 25% off the Hario Smart G Handy Electric Grinder, only $149.25 (usually $199) to help anyway interested transition from pre-ground to ground-on-demand or some anyone looking for a second grinder for alternate coffees e.g. Kenya CM SO

Deal valid for orders placed until 19/04/2023, unless sold out before. You can pick from the available green circle dispatch dates on the cart page. Dispatch can happen for you as near as Monday and as far as the second Thursday in May. Once a given dispatch date is at full capacity the green circle will be removed and date will turn red, first in best dressed :)

Some helpful info:

  • You're welcome to place multiple orders scheduled for dispatch at various dates (delayed dispatch) to make the most of this deal, we strive to dispatch our fresh coffee within 48 business hours of roasting
  • One dispatch per order
  • If you select 500g as a quantity please ensure you also select 500g as the packaging option. If 500g is selected as a quantity with 1kg as the packaging selection the product will show as "unavailable"
  • 500g bag packing (it's resealable) is also available for orders larger than 500g this is an extra $3.60 per kg including the discount (normally $6 extra per kg) to cover the extra bag/s, label/s and time it takes to pack
  • Complimentary gift notes can be written in the designated space on the cart page."
  • The largest bag size we use is 1kg and it has a zip (it's resealable), for example if you order 4kg with 1kg packaging you will receive 4 x 1kg bags, you will not receive a single huge 4kg bag.
  • VIC|NSW|ACT|QLD|TAS|NT Flat Rate Shipping $6.99 No Delivery Company Preference, $7.99 Shipit-Courier's Please, $8.99 Australia Post, $12.99 Express Post, Live Quote Shipping at the checkout for Same Day Delivery as Dispatch in VIC in the highlighted map areas https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/361387/95314/same_day_…
  • SA|WA Flat Rate Shipping $9.99 Express Post. Regular parcels travel to SA & WA via train. The recent floods have damaged the rail line to SA & WA and a freight train has derailed, as such we've been informed by Australia Post that standard delivery to SA & WA is currently not an option for the foreseeable future. Express Post travels by plane, so it's still a viable option. We understand some of our SA & WA customers would prefer our "$6.99 No Delivery Company Preference" standard shipping option. Our Express Post option is usually $12.99. As Express shipping has been forced on us and you as the only viable option to SA & WA for the moment, to make the best of this situation we've decided to split the price difference and offer our SA & WA customers flat-rate Express shipping for only $9.99

Received my order of Brazil São Paulo Single Origin yesterday using default shipping. Very quick and tastes amazing.

    • Woohoo, what a terrific way to kick off the feedback, love speedy delivery and it's so wonderful to know how much you're enjoying our fresh coffee!!!

Thank you so much for your fantastic feedback and order, it's truly appreciated :)

  • Can anyone tell me how this would compare to Five Senses darkhorse. Its my go to but they are being stubborn with the coupons and ive run out.

    • I personally feel Five Senses is slightly better in taste but costs significantly more. I think the moments to memories blend is very good for the price, would recommend to give it a try.

  • Seems like a good deal, what's the roast date on the Kenya SO? Is this 1-2 weeks post roast or is it on special because it's getting a bit old?

    • +4

Morning @Gladioli glad you've reached out to check!

This special is not to do with the age of the coffee. We go by a roast-to-order model, so the roast date depend on the dispatch date/s you select. "We strive to dispatch our fresh coffee within 48 business hours of roasting."

We run a lean operation and only have so much space. It's simply on special because it's time for us to get ready to introduce new rotating Single Origins, as such time for us to say goodbye to theses Kenyans :)

      • Fantastic! Thanks for the clear response

        • :)

    • +3

They roast everything fresh. I usually receive my beans within one week of roast date.

    • +1

I always get it 4 days between roast date and landing on my doorstep. YMMV depending on location, but I've never gotten 'old' beans from them, no matter how good the sale.

  • Received my order of Brazil from your last deal. Nice tasting coffee, didn't blow my socks off like i was expecting going off other people's reviews but nice none the less. Can recommend Lime Blue, Delayed shipping as requested and reasonably priced

    • +3

Agreed. I think it's a touch above Airjo for a similar price. The delayed despatch is great as well.

  • Does anyone using pourover have any feedback on the coffee, in particular the CM?

    • +1

Not quite pour over but I tried it long black in an aeropress, minute ish brewing and a slow press.
Is definitely pretty out there but I really liked it. For the price it is 100% worth a go.

  • Hey Tom, I missed out on the BSP special last time so I’m interested to try these African coffees. I tend to have a milk-based coffee at breakfast and then long blacks through the day, which one would you suggest?

    • Hey @Chazzozz appreciate the check in, better safe than sorry!

They're both delicious Kenyans, but hands down based on your coffee routine I'd recommend going with the Kenya Nyeri Washed Single Origin :)

      • Thanks for the advice but it looks like I've missed out on the KNW, so I've ordered the ever-reliable MTM instead.

        • Shucks @Chazzozz shame you missed out on this one, from the timing of your comment it looks like you missed out by about 2 hours. Glad Moments is a winner for you :)

Thank you for another order, your continued orders really do mean so much to us!!!

Is the SO 500g a light or dark roast?

    • Hey @Pub Envelope great question!

It's a medium/omni roast, closer to light than dark :)

      • Thanks! Would it be better for black coffees or milk based?

        • Hey again @Pub Envelope our Kenya SO works really well for both black and milk based coffees. However, it completely sold out at lightning speed, about 5 hours before you sent the "better for black coffees or milk based" question. Good news is we still have some availability of our Kenya CM, note our CM is best suited exclusively to black coffees. We also still have availability for our Moments to Memories blend which is terrific black and for milk based coffees too :)

My reviews. Grinding and brewing on a Breville Barista Touch. I usually make a flat white.

Moments To Memories Blend - one of ye olde reliables from this roaster. Always good. The safe bet here.

Kenya Nyeri Carbonic Maceration Natural Jasper Single Origin - Weird! I tried to like it, but it has a very long aftertaste that was just not for me. The notes mention an extended aftertaste. My wife (who is Kenyan) hated it. I gave it away to a coffee snob at work. I did try a sip of the espresso without milk or water and it was better that way (notes say it's best for black coffee) but the lingering aftertaste still got to me.

Kenya Nyeri Washed Single Origin - I'm really enjoying it. I started putting it in the machine without a second thought and reckoned I dialled it in pretty well, but my wife (who is Kenyan) detected that it had something in common with the CM version and decided she hates this too. I'm now having to take her preferred beans out of the grinder and put my Kenya Nyeri (and waste a bit of both by running it through) in order to use it up.

Conclusion: Buy the Moments to Memories blend if you live with a Kenyan. Try the SO (non-CM) if you don't.

LOL - +1 for the honesty in your review. In all seriousness, look at getting a second grinder, it’s definitely worth it in the long run. That’s what I did because Mrs C only has decaf and I drink full-strength, so I didn’t want to be swapping all the time.

      • @Chazzozz Great idea! I'll pick up a second grinder in the next good sale.

        • +1

          Wise words from @Chazzozz !

@Morven we think the Hario Smart G Handy Electric Burr Grinder is a winner in terms of value for money at full RRP of $199, let alone @ 25% AKA $149.25 in this current deal. Not sure if it'll be a winner for you, but thought it worth a chime in from me :)

The single o's generally are best enjoyed without milk, especially the CM one which is best via filter brewing. Any flavours will be entirely taken over by the milk taste. Fruity coffee and milk generally never goes well together.

      • You're so right. It's really my error for ignoring the note that it's best for black coffee. But I'm never afraid of trying something new, especially when it was described as a bit leftfield, so that's why I bought one small pack.

    • +5

Hey @Morven really appreciate the time you've taken to share such detailed candid feedback!

      1) Wrapped to know how much you enjoy our Moments to Memories blend!

      2) Our Kenya CM is indeed quite unique and a delicious high quality coffee, we completely appreciate it won't suit everyone as it's so out of left field. You're spot on that it is indeed best suited for black coffee rather than milk based. If someone's after a coffee that tastes like "coffee" then a CM won't be the one for them, it's a very fruity coffee geared towards black coffee drinkers who are keen to try something a bit different. The lingering aftertaste, as mentioned in the description, is due to the thick stacks on the drying bed, this extends the fermentation process in a manner that aims to extend the aftertaste in the cup. In this instance I don't think being Kenyan impacts perception of the cup, as it's so unique I wouldn't classify it as having standard Kenyan coffee notes. However, the Kenya Nyeri Washed Single Origin is a different story in this sense.

      3) Once again I'm happy to know you are "really enjoying" our Kenya Nyeri Washed Single Origin. However, unlike your CM feedback which could just indicate you enjoy coffee more toward the chocolate end of the flavour spectrum rather than fruity end, your wife's feedback makes me think in this specific instance it's the machine or equipment that needs a tweak. Reason being this Kenyan Washed SO from a flavour perspective has virtually zero correlation to the Kenya CM, so your wife detecting a similarity can likely be solved simply by purging half a shot when you switch to a different coffee or that she's tasting the Kenya Washed SO in too close proximity to tasting the Kenya CM. Furthermore, is your wife comparing this Kenya flavour to Kenyan coffee roasted and brewed in Kenya or Kenyan Coffee roasted and brewed in Australia? I've tried many different Kenya coffees and this Kenyan SO has the flavour qualities Kenyan coffee is popularly known for. Given the above, when you get a sec could you please send a reply email to your order confirmation with the following info based on the Kenya Washed SO?
-photo of the coffee puck straight after extraction while it's in the basket
-photo of the coffee puck after extraction when it's knocked out of the basket
-water temperature coming out of the group head
-the dry dose in and extraction dose out in addition to contact time of the shot
-a shot video of a shot extracting

@LimeBlueCoffee As always I am really impressed with the detail in your response and thank you for replying in-depth. I think you're right about equipment or technique being to blame, because here's the difference: I read the instructions and did the tutorial for the machine, I maintain it, and I think I've got my barista act down pat. My wife never bothered with the instructions and came up with her own way of making coffee on the machine and will never change (but at least benefits from my maintenance of the machine). There is also the possibility that she saw the label and decided it was the same and will never change. Either way, I won't bother you with alarming photos of her technique, partly because I'd like to remain married but also because there's no fixing this :)

        • @Morven Just wondering i have the same machine. what are your grind settings and total brew time for the single origin. I think i got sort of right. But taste a little bitterness. Mine right now is at 4 inside burr, 8 on the machine. 18g dose, and total brew time of 37 seconds to get to a 1:2 ratio.

        • +1

A wise and slightly humorous response to which I reply "fair enough" @Morven

Really appreciate you sharing the follow up details and I'm very happy to still be in your good books.

There is the technical approach and the punt it approach, both can result in a delicious coffee, be it accidentally or via a methodically structured approach. I don't think there's a strict right or wrong, as long as you find the approach that suits you best and enjoy the process. When it comes to coffee I personally get into the precise intricate details, yet when it comes to making food I'm 100% in your wife's camp, never read a recipe instruction or measure, just punt it. Perhaps that's why I only cook and never bake…my food approach applied to making a cake seems like a disaster in the making and much better to get a cake from a baking pro haha

There's no sunset clause on my offer, so if you ever change your mind, my offer still stands :)

I'm Kenyan too so +1 for the Kenyan wife! Like her, I don't enjoy Kenyan coffees either.

  • Hi Tom

How's the WA postage situation ATM?

I'm due for another order, my regular double cappuccino with breakfast and a top up before work, presumably the MTM is my best option?

    • Hey @Spending2Much appreciate you taking the time to reach out!

Standard to WA is still a little precarious, with residual impacts of the floor damage still lingering and Tropical Cyclone Ilsa lands this week. However, we've seem great result comparatively speaking with Express to WA, as such are continuing this as the exclusive option for WA. Express to WA is usually 2-3 days vs. Standard being weeks.

Spot on, Moments is a terrific pairing for milk (as well as enjoyed black). Our Kenya SO also works really well with milk, has a bit more of an acidity kick than Moments. Our Kenya CM is best enjoyed as a black coffee :)

      • MTM with shared express postage as usual, delayed dispatch for week after.

        Cheers

      • Hello Tom,

On AusPost site under the 'Current Disruptions', it mentions expected delays to some regions in Queensland, and specific postcodes to NT & WA. There doesn't seem to be any disruption to SA on the site. Any idea when postage cost to SA will go back to normal? The othe coffee folks who post deals here offer free express shipping so I was hoping you guys would at least sort this SA/WA issue by now. Cheers

CM SO is pretty nice and fruity in a milk drink. It's no 200 hour fermentation which might taste quite funky but great value for money.

    • Bought 200g last time for give it a “shot” , getting 400g now, CM it’s another story regard coffee beans

      • Amazing to hear @Oxygenzero I'm so happy to know your enjoyed our Kenya CM so much that you've doubled your order this time around!!!

Thank you so much for placing another order with us and sharing such terrific feedback, it's truly appreciated :)

    • Hey @Bunnyburger that's terrific to hear. Thank you so much for your order and taking the time to share your experience!

I'm wrapped to know how much you've been enjoying our Kenya CM, especially the vibrant flavour you've found with this as a milk based coffee, given its best suits to black coffees :)

  • Sounds like a good deal! Definitely want to make sure beans are roasted just prior to delivery (48 hours or less is perfect).

    • Very happy to know our deal's caught your attention!

100% @drakknight222 we completely agree that fresh is best, which is why we always strive to dispatch orders within 48 business hours of roasting :)

  • Kenya SO Sold out :( :(

    • Indeed! We only had a relatively small amount still available this morning and it got snapped up very quickly, completely selling out roughly 6.5-7 hours ago. Good news is our other options still have some availability :)
