Found this and given the prices of new gen stuff, thought it may be of interest to some. Note that it is part of a "48hr Flash Sale". 3060 version available for $1619; however, the 3070Ti is way better value if you can afford it.

Unfortunately the GPU wattage isn't explicitly stated; however, it should be 150W given this is the refresh version. Best to do your own research and note that flashing higher wattages are possible though with their own respective caveats. Comes with a 280W Power adapter, so if you want to play around with overclocking the 3070ti; will have headroom.

Don't forget to use relevant cashback.

  • Anyone know if the ram can be expanded?

    • +2

It can as it isn't soldered. Just note that both slots are occupied so you'll need actually replace what's included.

    • This has a 3070ti which is actually quite close to the 3080.

Also has a mux switch vs that Aorus

Up to you really, both decent.

      • Finding it hard to figure out which would be better. The Aorus has the faster processor but this has the faster GPU. No clue which makes a bigger difference.

        • +1

Well what are you using it for? Gaming - Pretty much this one hands down

Outside of heavily threaded workloads OR something that requires as much single thread performance as possible, the AMD one wins overall due to better efficiency; and this is a laptop after all.

          • @RappyGreens: Pretty much just gaming, web browsing and watching stuff. Won't be doing any video editing etc.

      • +1

        The AORUS 3070 says 130w.
But I can't find the Omen 3070 Ti watts?? Can anyone find?
I've read that mobile 3070 Ti can be 125-150w, hard for me to to determine if the Omen gpu is actually faster?

        • +2

          It's a 115W, I checked with HP chat

What is better for gaming though?
          1. 3070ti 115W MUX with AMD CPU (Omen)
          2. 3070 130W no MUX with Intel CPU (Aorus)

  • A noob question, what are the cons for using gaming laptop like this as work laptop?

    • +2

heavy especially if you gonna carry the charging brick around, can get really loud, no numpad

      • unfortunately most work laptops dont have numpads too!

the last time i had a laptop with numpads was the Aero 15. all my work laptops dont have them.

        • yea, actually I noticed that too, I'm not sure why my work issues laptop without numpads when we deals with numbers day in and day out.

    • Ive got the omen 15 laptop. Its heavier, battery life isnt as good, charging brick is massive

    • +1

Fan noise, heavier (generally), less battery life, not "professional", uses consumer parts (i.e 3070ti which doesn't have additional certification for professional workloads like the workstation parts; though consumer parts are honestly just fine).

I will say though, the screen is only 1080p and it doesn't have a num pad, so if you work with big spreadsheets etc, might not be the best unless you're going to have it docked with external monitors etc.

    • -1

only FHD resolution, would recommend something higher for work.

    • Battery life is on the low side and its somewhat heavy. For work you want something that can last at least 8 hours and preferably 1.8kg or under.

      • It claims over 11 hours in the spdcs.

Weight could be a problem depending on how you intend on carrying it.

I had a heavier Alienware that travelled in my car back and forth between desks and charging points.

If I was trying to navigate public transport, cycling or walking a distance I'd choose a lighter device.

    • -2

      Package weight
      38.6 kg

    • I used to log around a similar one for work. I need to move around with my device often and it was a pain as it was so heavy and needed a proprietary charger in order to power the high end parts so I couldnt just use all the USBC chargers around (not sure if that applies to this model). It also didnt have great battery life.

Now I just use a Macbook air and have a desktop at home for gaming

    • Thank you everyone.

a bit odd pairing 1080p panel with 3070 Ti, would like to see QHD there. 1080p is good for 3060

    • +2

Agreed. No option to upgrade unless you speak with HP and even then…

But yeah, 6800h and 3070ti for $1814 is hardly something to nitpick at. Here's hoping these deals become more common as they try to unload the rest of the old gen stuff.

      • yes, agree. still a great price for 3070 Ti and 6800h pairing.

    • +1

1080p is fine on 15-16 inch… having higher resolution uses more battery.

gaming on 15.6" 1080P still looks sharper than gaming on my 38" 3840 x 1600

    • 1080p is fine imo. The idea here is that you pair it with a proper external monitor for when you are gaming at home.

    • Not a huge benefit to go higher rez at the screen size, I'd prefer a higher refresh than the 144hz though.

    • This is awesome at 1080p.
      Less cost because cheaper screen.
Most ppl use an external screen for higher res.
Honestly who can actually appreciate higher than 1080p on a 16" screen, about 5% of people.

      • yep I agree with you there, I used to game on 1080p 17" laptops. those panels were 240hz - 300hz - 360hz though, not 144Hz

        and that's weird here, 1080p 144Hz panel with a 3070Ti

you just won't let 3070Ti reach its potential using the built in panel. and if it was for esports which would justify 1080p, 144Hz isn't that high either.

so yeah, still weird pairing. after I sold off my 1080p laptops I tried Lenovo 5iP briefly, that had 3070Ti paired with a gorgeous 16" QHD+ 16:10 panel with G-Sync, now that makes sense. and trust me, I though it doesn't make a difference, but 1080p vs QHD is a solid jump in visual quality, even on a 15.6"

        • you just won't let 3070Ti reach its potential using the built in panel.

unfortunately, many RT games still humble my 3070Ti on L5i.

          • +1

@meong: I don't turn RT on even on my desktop rig. why on earth would I want to get disappointed haha

  • +1

Decent deal for previous gen but bring back the 4090 deal HP.. haha

  • I think 4060 laptop is released now, HP is clearing the old stock of 3060

  • How's HP Omen build quality and reliability compare to Lenovo or Alienware these days?

    • The Omen probably isn't too far off.

  • 280w psu is mad. Must be a massive brick !

  • Shows $2309 for me

    • +1

There's 2 laptops on the page, and it may have scrolled to the more expensive one like it did for me. Scroll up and you should see the $1814 laptop.

      • +1

        You're 100% correct, thankyou!

  • Hard to buy anything after seeing the 4090 deal :(

  • +1

The 3070ti here is only 115w. Not 150w.

  • I have an older version of this, great laptop, but very heavy and begins to sound like an airplane taking off under load.

  • Anyone know if this has an extra ssd slot?

    • +1

      yes

    • HP support told me no over the phone. But it came today and when I opened it up it did!

  • Thank you, got it with a g4 280w combo dock. Rang sales and got an extra 65 off

  • Thanks OP. Ended up choosing the all-AMD one as it suits my needs and is significantly cheaper at $1429. The 3070 Ti model for the price is great value for anyone who needs a strong dGPU.

  • Looking for a laptop for video and photo editing to replace my i7-10700k/32GB/3070 8GB. I like the idea of having 3070Ti in the laptop. Would this be suitable or should I look more into Razer or Metabox? Anything up to $2k mark
    Tia

  • Do ,HP , Lenovo , Dell , do better deals than on line if you phone sales team .
    TIA

  • An update on this, I’ve ordered this 10 days ago and HP issued a shipping number after purchase. Two days ago went to their live chat and enquirer about delivery (based on the shipping number it was supposed to arrive 2 days later) and they told me to wait for email confirmation.

And just received an email from HP saying the parcel was damaged before it left their warehouse and their claims department will be in contact to organize refund.

    Did anyone actually receive this?

    • That's really annoying. Are you able to ask them to resend rather than give you a refund? My experience was very different. As mentioned above I bought the all-AMD version (Ryzen + Radeon) and received it within 3 days with no issues.
